When the BBC Big Read was originally running my reading group at the time made a mad decision to read the top 100 - luckily I'd already read a fair few so could do quicker reread!! I got loads of them in charity shops, particularly useful for ones I knew I wouldn't want to keep! Have you started Anna?

I'd never read any Tolstoy but Anna Karenina is one of my favourites at the end :T
Hi Shelley C, Yes well my enthusiasm for Anna was premature - turns out I will have to read her next year as she is in the second 50! So I am now trying to get through War and Peace which is turning out to be a bit of a marathon (but only 100 pages left) and then I will follow Resilie's advice and go for one hundred years of Solitude

  • Ooh that sucks. So I guess that not only do you not have the cash credited to your account but that other people can't deposit cash either until it's sorted?

Indeed Imma - no deposits unless people go in to the bank and the opening hours here are terrible - 10 till 13 o'clock and closed on fridays and saturdays.

Paid my property managment fee of £615 (one month before due date) and still managed to overpay £600. So have overpaid £2,000 in total this year - just another £3,000 to go

Moved into my new place yesterday and spent my first night in eight years alone (apart from the two cats). Was actually quite creepy. It is an old building and makes some strange noises so that will take some getting used to.:o

Tonight they will be installing my cooker and then I will be taking inventory and having a go at some meal planning.

Realy hope I get a better night's sleep tonight though. Woke up about every hour.

Did have to laugh at my cats though. One of them (we will call him "the silly cat") is really scared of the floor. He is used to carpet and now it is laminate. So he has been crawling around like a military cat in training :rotfl: as he does not like the noise when he walks on it. So when he gets to the carpet he straightens up again. Posh cat is being much nicer to me than usual (she normally considers herself too good to associate with commoners) :D.

On the money front I had to buy a washing machine - wanted to get a Miele but they started at €800 so I got a Toshiba for €300. Has two years garantee so I hope it does Ok.

Got my holiday bonus a little earlier and after the washing machine I was able to send €600 to the UK - will overpay that tomorrow.

  • Have tried to meal plan my evening meals around what I have in "stock" till the end of the month (did this at 2am as my cats have discovered that this floor can be a lot of fun after all - they are in training for the cat speed skating olympics now!):

    19/06: mac and cheese
20/06: sandwich as I have sewing lesson
    21/06: ravioli with tomato sauce
    22/06: Dinner at parents
23/06: rest of my ravioli with tomato sauce
24/06: tinned mushrooms with cream and mustard sauce on biscotti on toasted bread
    25/06: mac and cheese
26/06: tinned mushrooms with cream and mustard sauce on biscotti on toasted bread
27/06: going out with sewing group as last lesson of the year
    28/06: chicken tikka masala
    29/06: dinner with parents
    30/06: pasta with pesto sauce

All a bit simple really but I am trying to spend as little as possible for the rest of the month as along with the overpayments i need to get the money together for a kitchen  I will be buying it in parts - and I have all the machinery already but I would love a sink so I do not have to do the washing up in the bathroom! So trying for €1.000 for my kitchen and €1.000 emergency fund :o

Hi LauraJo - funny you should ask about my "little darlings". They have discovered that a slippery floor is great fun (for them) and the night before last I got about 2 hours sleep. Last night they were more generous and only started rehearsing at 5 am for their new show - coming soon to a theatre near you - "CATS ON ICE!!!"

All in all I did get 6 hours sleep last night so a great improvement on the previous 2 nights. Also the creepy noises are bothering me less already. Although I might just be too tired to care!

Had a free meal last night as my ex brother in law was trying to impress some really skinny bird my ordering loads of pizza - after eating her half a slice my ex showed up to connect my washing machine with the left over 12 slices which we gobbled down with relish!:D

Means my meal plan has already failed on day one  but it was frozen mac and cheese which will live to be eaten another day. :D

  • Been looking through and sorting out my bank accounts / savings accounts and managed to scrape together a total €187.60 as a start for my emergency savings :j

Will be going through all my handbags tonight to see what I can find for my kitchen fund!

I already have €100 set aside for my meal out next week - I hope I have seriously overbudgeted as we will all be driving so no drinking. The extra can then go in my kitchen fund:T

Also still have 15 food coupons for €6 each for my food shopping and I have €200 in cash which I would really like to spend  but I will restrain myself :o Decision made €150 out of the €200 into the kitchen fund! €50 will keep incase I "need" it:o Do not judge to harshly for me this is very good behaviour
