Socialising - what do you lot do?

Hi There,
I think that this is a tricky one. On the one hand you don't want to become a social recluse and lose what friends that you have. Also, everyone needs an element of fun in their life especially if you work hard and have nothing to look forward to. I agree, that we all have to watch the pennies, I have just bought a flat and am watching every penny I have as I need to do the place up.
However, I personally survive by slowing paying off my credit card (which is 0% interest). I am also signed up to many research groups/mystery shopping alike.
Lastly, I have bought two cash cans from ebay one is for Christmas 2007 and the other one if for me for pamering. Any loose change I have I throw in these cans. What is useful also is that these cans are designed so that I can't get the money out - you have to open these cans with a tin-opener.
These are just a few of my suggestions - good luck, but still enjoy yourself life is too short to only have memories of drinking lambrini every weekend!

I find that not doing rounds helps when going out. Then you can have a couple of pints and then swap to tap water. it also helps to take the bus home and skip the minicab/taxi which easily adds 30 GBP on a night out in London.

I totally agree with not doing rounds - once went out, bought a round of drinks and by the time they were served and payed for half the group had decided to go. I've always been against rounds anyway but this made me even more so. Since then I always drive - can have a good night out for less than £5.Official DFW Nerd Member 507'Proud to be dealing with my debts'0

:j Hi you have all gave me a little bit of hope, just had my lbm 2 days ago!! And was reading round forum thinking oh my god my social life is going to end!! But i dont feel so bad about buying my cheeky bottle of wine now and again....might even try this infamous cherry lambrini, i'm sure i have a vague recollection of it fromm my younger days!!
Well i'm actually being bad this wkend..not good start for a DFW, as i'm going away for a night out but it has been booked for ages. I have given myself a strict budget, but i'm going to paint edinburgh nightlife red, as this may be my last big night out for a while!!!!:rotfl:0 -

I only really go out with my darling boyf.
Dinner every Wednesday out adds up - but we take turns in paying, then we tend to do free-ish things at the weekend.

forums are my social life

why the sad face! nothing wrong with having a ready made gang of mates to chat to - at least no one trys to spill stale beer over you - or put thier hand up your skirt
( southernscouser exluded
) Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Curry nights are good fun - get a few curry-loving friends and get them all to cook a dish each to bring along. Take it in turns to visit each other's homes. That way you also get to try all sorts of dishes you'd not have tried or cooked before. The host only needs to supply plates, accompaniments like sliced onions and tomatoes with chopped coriander, dips and poppadoms - and loads of iced water with slices of lemon in. Just make sure you don't all make rice so you don't have any curry to go with it

BBQ's are a good idea - weather permitting
if everyone spends a couple of quid on say a pack of sausages and some dip, then no one spends too much money and theres plenty of food and drink to go around and that a full evening of cheap, socialising entertainment.
other than that there's a local park that i get dragged to by my hippie mate (she's not a hippie, by far, but has the spirit) or cannock chase where one can wonder round on nature walks or just sit and enjoy nature - again weather permitting
the pubs are usually student friendly so are fairly cheap anyways and are used more so in the winter
then theres orange wednesdays, thats a full evening out pretty much for as little as £2
thinking about it not a lot is spent on pub's / clubs or getting drunk as if theres a mash up or special occasion its usually on the cheap and slightly illegal side (ahem) - but you can argue £6 for the night against a possible £30+ on drinks0
