Socialising - what do you lot do?

Hi there,

How much do you spend on your social life (or did spend before lbm). I find that the majority of my debts are spent from me thinking "oh heck, life is too short, just enjoy myself" and then face the consequences afterwards.

That is how I got into trouble with a credit card. And to be honest, what do you have to show for it afterwards apart from a beer belly (although some good memories :p )

Do you say no to your friends/family/work colleagues when they ask you out on a night out? Since my lbm, I am now always saying "sorry, cant make it - too skint" - do you let on that you are in financial difficulties?

Sometimes I just suggest a bottle of lambrini for £2 and a film on tv, but a lot of my friends would prefer to go out to clubs/bars and spend £12 on a round of beers a time - I think to myself, gosh am I becomming boring! I would love to know how people spend their time/how much they spend socialising whilst trying to pay off their debts.

Thanks !

I'm happy to stay at home, not been in a pub for years.

Scared by the lambrini  but otherwise would go with the sentiment!

Have mates round now for meals wine etc which is reciprocated. Added bonus that having visitors makes us tidy up!:rotfl:

    Socialising - what's that?
  • LAst night I went to my friends house - three of us had a feast on cold meats, salad and garlic bread - with lot sof alcohol (bought in supermarkets of course!). We lazed around in our pj's, watched crap on tv and put the world to rights, then staggered to bed around 2.30am. My perfect evening!

Blimey I just read your other post and now this one......are you sure you aren't me? :rotfl:

I used to go out all the time and think "heyyyyyy life is for living, I'll have so many stories to tell the grand children!"

    But....
    a) I don't want children so no grandchildren to tell stories to
    b) Some of the things I got up to aren't for children's delicate little ears anyway :D
    c) You can only sustain that for so long

Now, I am totally honest with people and tell them I don't have to cash to throw around and I have a budget. I am very frank and say:

"Look I have <xx> amount of money this month and it's already allocated to <insert social event here> so I am going to have to say no, I'm really sorry."

My true friends have learned to plan things ahead with me now or we simply meet up at each other's houses for a bottle of wine or even a good old fashioned :coffee: over a chat.

Most of my friends could do with saving the money too!

We sometimes buy tickets for gigs at our local grungy music venue which are only about £8 each then we plan in a few beers beforehand and it's a really great evening out and if you do that only every few months you appreciate it and make the most of every sip of beer! :rotfl:

If you know anyone with Orange mobile phone network, make the most of the Orange Wednesday cinema offers too (two for one).
