Does a Coffee and chat in the staff canteen class as socialising? that seems to be the height of my social life at present :rotfl:Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 297 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts

I am the same. I am supposed to be going out for a meal with colleagues and ex colleagues on the 18th. I have creid off the last 3 for lack of funds. I think I may have to cancel this one too as it is a week before payday. Everyone knows I am always skint but I think they will stop inviting me soon if I always say no.Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination:beer:

When going out with friends I do often offer to drive - taken my average spend from £50 down to £0! I'm not fussed about getting drunk so much, more having a good time & a boogie, so it's perfect for me as by the end of the night I'm about the only coordinated person there (and can drag my mates away from the lech's who come crawling over at 2am!)
However, I have a mini dilemma at the moment as I met a really nice guy at the weekend, and we're trying to set up a date (ooh!) - I don't want to come across as stingy, and definitely don't want to have to tell him about my debts yet, but what can I suggest that will be cheap but fun? Oh, and don't really want to just go for a drink as I'm a firm believer that first dates are best when relatively sober!Total Debt 13th Sept 2006 (exc student loan): £6240.06

Wow - thank you all for your comments.
Cherry lambrini is the bees knees! I also buy a bottle of cheap white wine from aldi nowadays and water it down (lasts longer) with diet lemonade mmmmwoa!
Storm - thats a tricky one. Cinema can be cheap, esp with free tickets on freebies board, but you cant really have a conversation. Definately not bowling, far too expensive. what about seeing how the weather fairs and going for a picnic?
I might just tell people that I am saving up for new windows, which isn't a lie - I just need to concentrate on my debts first. Another problem, dont know if anyone else has this, but I agree to do things when I am drunk - then someone will say "remember the other night and you said you would come out on saturday" and I would be like "oh yeah" instead of letting that person down (pet hate) - maybe stop getting drunk in the first place is the first step. Although I have cut down my drinks from white wine sodas to half lagers (so much cheaper and get less drunk!).£[strike]4,500 [/strike] 4,313.42 Loan (last payment Oct 2009!)

Storm, how exciting!!
How about going for a walk? Either an evening stroll or an all day hike with a picnic? There's nothing like the beauties of nature for kindling romance!Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Hi! I am lucky as a student in that friends at college also have no money so everyone is in the same boat but my hubby and I also have older friends and we tend to just have people over for dinner (they normally invite us round as well so it evens out) people will often bring wine or sometimes dessert so it can be quite cheap. Other things are BBQ and ask people to bring stuff - then you normally end up with food left over!!! or the other night we had a Playstation and Pizza evening - I bought the food for that and we did spend £35 but we fed about 20 people and bought some beer and wine too but you could always ask people to bring a pizza. Or a wine and cheese party - bring your favorite wine and cheese.0

Oooh Storm - how wonderful! Please let us know how it goes

As for ideas, how about a round of pitch & putt if you have green near you? Fun but not that expensive.
Bowling or greyhound racing? I think AMF have a free game of bowling offer on (if you have an AMF alley near you) and https://www.anightatthedogs.co.uk sometimes have offers if you have a track near you.
Are you near the coast? One of you could drive to the beach and you both have chips watching the sunset! Perfect.Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.

I have one of those Cineworld cinema cards which costs me £10.99 a month and I can go to the cinema as many times as I want as often as I want during the month. Considering it costs approx £7 in my town to see one film, it's a bit of a bargain! Just don't get suckered in to buying the sweets and drinks there... make sure you eat before you go... or you sneak some sweets in.. but I didn't say that :rolleyes:Ever wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.0

Picnics are good. Also free events. We have open air concerts and free exhibitions and stuff going on at the local arts centre... maybe worth checking out what goes on in your town...Ever wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Hi Storm,
Something outside would be cool for a first date, like somebody else suggested a walk or a picnic (you might need your brolly tho!).
My new man has turned out to be as money conscious as I am which is good. For our first date I had free tickets to see Southampton play as my mate and her bf have season tickets and were away on hols. Quite good cos you can chat but there is also something going on to watch at the same time. I like the idea of greyhound racing too, gives you something to talk about at the beginning when you are both a bit nervous!
Good luck with it, hope it goes well!0
