Socialising - what do you lot do?

A 6 month old baby stops me and DP from socialising much!
He goes to darts most weeks but gets a tenner for that which usually covers most of his drinks as the loser has to buy the winner a drink (gives him more incentive when we're skint!) I very rarely go out...Have been out once for my birthday since we had our bubba and i spent my birthday pressie off my mum on drinks etc for that.0 -
Like Crawley girl I've got a cinema pass and my boyfriend and I go at least twice a week. I take my own sweeties and juice (savers stuff from tesco) so it doesn't cost a lot.Jan 1st 07 Car loan £4830.46@12% Personal Loan £11,517@8% variable Overdraft £1500 July 2009Halifax-£0Debt free date 14th July 2009 :j0

I hear you! I live in the south east where a large glass of wine in the pub is around £5! Cant really afford to go out mch now to be honest but my friends know the situation and we do other stuff like go to the beach, dvds round each others houses stuff like that!
Also found that if you fill your days doing fun, daytime stuff then you'll be too tired to go out! Getting overtime at work is another way i am trying to curb my spending, might as well stay at work and make money rather than go out and spend it!
If i do go out, then we all get a bottle(or 2!) and have that before we go out and just not drink so much while we're out! Finding cheaper bars is always a good move too!Loan 7.2% APR- £3187.00
Barclaycard 27.5% APR - £967.00
C.card 4% APR - £2000
VERY SCARY STUFF!

When I was in debt my 'social life' consisted of inviting a friend round and having one of those 79p bottles of wine you can get from the corner shop. Now I still do that but it's a £1.99 bottle and i go out once a week too.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

We mostly have meals at ours or round friends with us all contributing to wine/crisps/desserts.
My OH and I get our days and nights out from Pigsback (£10 waitrose to be used spoiling ourselves on a nice dinner or picnic and £10 leisure voucher so far), nectar points used to be spent on cinema tickets, but they seem to have stopped, ipoints have been cashed in for odeon vouchers...
...and mystery shopping helps us get free dinners and cinema visits too.0 -
I shared a flat with a friend until a few months ago and we tended to have nights in once or twice a week with a bottle of wine and some snacks from Aldi (avoid the German "Table Wine" though - it's a 'mix of three wines' or something.. foul...).. cost us a few quid each. When it was nice in the summer we'd do the same outside, sometimes doing a cheap BBQ as well, and just chill out in the sun with some magazines etc.
I have turned down work nights out, and am quite honest in saying 'sorry, I can't afford it this time'.. if I do go I tend to bail out and go home before they go on to a club because it's not really my thing anymore.
I'm also very lucky in that friends and colleagues who know that I'm a bit skint often take pity on me and buy me a few drinks.. bless em

I try to have one night out a month with my pals on a rotation basis LOL!
I catch up with three of my pals every couple of months and we go to an art exhibition in London (I get free tickets courtesy of work). We usually get a bit of dinner as well, but as I don't drink it doesn't cost more than a tenner or so.
I go to another pal's house every couple of months, or she'll come to mine. Neither of us drink, so it's a couple of bottles of flavoured fizzy water to go with homemade dinner, and for entertainment we each buy a trashy magazine (OK and Hello usually) and !!!!! about celebs!
I see another pal every couple of months for 2-4-1 cinema tickets and have a nice night out at the pictures with a bit of dinner afterwards.
Also, my work pal's in a band, so I go & see them 3-4 times a year, catch up with loads of former colleagues and spend about £3 on bottles of water and get a free dancercise workout to boot!
There is one big monthly socialising spend and that's to go & visit my brother and his wife & two lovely boys every month. It costs around £45 in petrol, but it's my sanity check. For three glorious days a month I get to leave work and college worries behind and focus on being Aunty SuSu. To me it's better than a spa weekend - just being with my nephews is a real tonic, and my brother is a fellow MSEr - albeit a debt-free one - so we have monthly financial reviews, which acts as a reminder of how well I'm doing :T£27k (excluding interest) paid off in 29 months
Finally debt free!0
