Whilst my cousin did know she was pregnant her full term bump was incredibly small, like a 3 month bump, so you could have just though she'd let herself go a bit

So I can believe that if you have irregular periods and a tiny tiny bump then you could not notice...but what about baby moving? I've never had a successful pregnancy but surely a baby kicking is very unique and doesn't feel like anything else so what do they think the baby kicks are?

When I was younger I got completely freaked out by the thought of an unknown pregnancy as one of these stories in Bella or whatever where the lady said she felt ill (with contractions but she didn't know) and then felt the baby kicking but had no idea what it was and thought it was an alien trying to get out.
Could you just imagine walking down the street then something kicks you from the inside? Oof

it is suggested that the majority of women who said they didnt know were in denial and just ignored all the symptoms

I didn't know I was pregnant until 5 and a half months, and I only knew I was pregnant 2 months before I had him because I had severe pre-eclamspia and had to have an emergency caesarian.

I had all the morning sickness - doctor sent me to hospital for scans, put it down to gall stones. I didn't have periods as I was on the implant, and I've always struggled with weight issues so just thought I was getting fat again.

I nearly died. So glad that I realised when I felt him kick. First thing I did was a pregnancy test. Second thing I did was go to the doctors. Third thing I did was freak out :P

    Yep :D

Went for a scan to see a suspected fibroid to deduce what type of surgery............Came out 19 weeks pregnant!

My coil came out embedded in the placenta when he was born & i still had periods at 6 months.

If you had an anterior placenta you could get a lot further into the pregnancy without noticing movement as baby would be kicking and moving into the placenta as a cushion against feeling it.

This happened to someone I know. She was a size 8 - 10 and about 20 years old and had had no idea. Looking at pictures of her on a night out days before she went into labour, she literally looks like she was carrying an extra 5 lb or so. There is a pic of her at (as it turns out) 6 months pregnant in a cropped top and hot pants - she looks amazing and has a real washboard stomach.

We got to know each other through our children who are similar ages - it has taken her a long time to come to terms with what happened and she has had to have extensive mental health input (she was thought to have something similar to PTSD). However, she is a fabulous mummy to her little one.

totally agree, but to go a whole pregnancy and not feel anything at all ?

  • I'v known several people that have got to 6/7 months without realising and not showing atall. With my first I only started to show at 6 months (I knew but hadn't told any of my work collegues and they didn't guess)
The only thing I think is all the 'good, healthy' thing we are meant to do whilst pregnant, ie not drinking, avoiding foods, etc etc are not being done in all of these cases and I have never heard about any of it affecting the babies, they all came out very healthy.
Makes you wonder how much truth is in all the scare stories....

My baby came out very healthy considering he was 2 months premature. He was jaundice, but thats about it. I drank for the 5 months I didn't know, and as soon as I found out I was pregnant, and sod the diet, I was eating what I wanted!!! :) That christmas the best guilt free christmas I'd ever had. Mmmm foooood. :P

I wouldn't have drank if I'd known though mind.

My mum was 7 months pregnant with me before she found out. She visited the doc after fainting and he said it was probably due to the pregnancy - she didn't believe it as she was on the coil and hadn't put on any weight.
I always used to doubt her as she has told some tales in her time but she has mentioned that my older sister was such a difficult baby she was never going to have any more.....so I'm a miracle lol.
