I have now understood re camera, so could use it for skype.
As for yahoomail, I still haven't found the log out button.
Been looking through the playstore and found the barcode scanner so thought I'd try this (don't have a smart phone). I scanned a broccoli and expected the result to be broccoli themed but it wasn't, then tried a pork pie, again, nothing like it. It suggested I download google shopper, that didn't make any difference.

The barcode scanner is useful but I find its not always perfect.0

Barcode scanner needs a high resolution autofocus camera ideally.0

Generally, the barcode scanner is not as you think of one in the supermarket till.
It's quite often used for QR, or quick response code barcodes usually to send you to websites. They look like this0 -
Firstly Islandman, you don't need to download Chrome as the standard browser in Android 4.0 is actually Chrome.
If I understood you correctly, you don't need to download a camera app from Playstore as there'll already be one on the tablet. On cheap tablets, the camera is really only for use with programmes/apps like Skype etc.
Re Yahoomail, you can also set it up in the standard e-mail programme/app.
On my Android phone, I use the RedLaser barcode scanner.David.0 -

On my Android phone, I use the RedLaser barcode scanner.
Point by point:-
When I turn the tablet on, at the top left is the google name with a magnifying glass so yes, it hadn't dawned on me. Now I have dumped the chrome icon. I touched the google icon, typed in log-in yahoo and accessed my email program ok, so any issues you've probably read elsewhere in MSE were resolved.
As for the camera, I now appreciate it is suitable for skype mostly and that icon was dumped.
as for:-
Re Yahoomail, you can also set it up in the standard e-mail programme/app. you're going to have to guide me through that one please.
and this Redlaser scanner, does it do what it says on the proverbial tin and scan everything correctly ?
and finally, when I turn the poer on, the date and a locked padlock appear. I slide the padlock to the unlock position and in doing so, my widgets have appeared, but the chrome widgit is there, even though it has been dumped, why? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I now have the Redlaser scanner, sent to me via my laptop (that in itself is weird) and it identified various things correctly, which was pleasing as another scanner failed. BUT, I note from the web site it isn't able to make UK comparisons, that is unless you know different.
Maybe you would tell me what use the scanner is if UK stuff isn't found?.
There is another thing that I am confused about. A number of times a box says "Complete action using :- Browser or chrome" and I never kn ow which to use. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I have zxing and it simply detects the barcode then allows you to Google for the product.0

Firstly Islandman, I'm no expert, my previous reply was simply based on my experience with my own Android phone and tablet.
Firstly, when you say an icon has been dumped, if you're referring to the icons on one of your home pages, then you're simply deleting a shortcut to the app, not the app itself. To delete the app, you have to go Settings > Apps, select the app in the right-hand column, and in the next screen, press on "Uninstall" which is located under the app's name.
You can access all your e-mail accounts via the "Email" app/programme. I've already got accounts set-up on my tablet, but press on the Email icon, press on the the 3 vertical dots at top right on the next screen, press the drop-down "Settings", and at top right on the next screen should be "ADD ACCOUNT". Press on that and it's a 'walk through' inputting the account details.
I have to admit that I've hardly used RedLaser, but it at least has scanned random items in the house, something which the previous app I tried usually failed miserably at!
Re the option to choose Browser or Chrome, you'll be getting that because you have the 2 options installed. If you downloaded a 3rd browser, you would get 3 options, so if as per my explanation above you choose to delete the Chrome app properly, you won't get the option/choice.
Hope that's all clear!David.0
