Tempted to buy GoTab 6 inch Android 4.0 Tablet with Google Play and 4GB Storage

Currently Ideal World have on the website a GoTab 6 inch Android 4.0 Tablet with Google Play and 4GB Storage and I am tempted by it.

I use a laptop everyday and have a netbook which hasn't seen the light of day for months. Some of my family have varying size tablets so I have an idea how they operate. Even if I were to get stuck, no doubt utube would oblidge.

But, these Apps they talk about, I've always thought they had to be bought, but seemingly not, is this so ?. Plus, would I be able to get yahoo for emails ?

I have no idea what is meant by andoid, is it something I need to know. At 73+, am I reaching out too far I ask myself?

£146 (inc p&p) for a pretty basic 6" tablet is terrible!!!!!!! never buy technology from shopping channels, yesterday stuff and high prices.

You don't seem sure what you want a tablet for? What do you have in mind? Apps can be bought or free although nothing is really free as 'free' apps usually have some adverts on them. Buying the 'paid for' version of the app usually has no adverts and more features.

Yes you would be able to use yahoo mail on the tablets web browser like your laptop, or there is an app to do it directly.

Android is just the software program (operating system) that make the tablet run, like Windows makes your laptop run, you use programs or apps on top of it.

No you are not reaching too far.. if you can use a laptop then a tablet ultimately does pretty much the same things, just in more compact unit.

It isn't a replacement and it would be something I would be able to take with me to use whenever we visited and stayed over with family. It would be light to carry, which is something important in my case. I noticed last time we visited them, that my family, rather than bother with their laptops, they simply used the tablet. It seemed far more convenient. Oh and for the record, Ideal World last sold it at £129 but currently it is £59.99. Is that so terrible?

Then you have good need to want one in my book :)

Sorry for confusion, they have what appear to be identical products listed at different prices, the cheaper one is a bit more hidden on first look.

    GoTab 6 inch Android 4.0 £59.99

    GoTab 6 inch Android 4.0 £139.98

Different item number but looking at the two items I can't see any difference between them, yet on the same shop how strange!

£59.99 is a reasonable price, its still not 'rush out and buy me' as it is only 6" with quite a small memory and a smallish 2000mAH battery.

Screens are measured diagonally, 6" in 16:9 (widescreen format) like the GoTab is going to be surprisingly small, especially in the vertical dimension, going to be some titchy print. How are your eyes? I know I would need my strongest reading glasses on it!

For the same price (less as its cheaper delivery) can I suggest this one to you..

    http://mad4pads.co.uk/ainol-novo7-legend---8gb---7-5-point-touch-screen---android-4-226-p.asp

Have just bought another two for our family, I have 2 already so have tried them extensively personally.

It has a 7" 4:3 ratio (traditional old TV) screen which in my opinion is better on smaller tablets for reading web pages and so on. Apple agree as they make their premium products in this shape too.

This one has a higher resolution screen, twice the memory and a good battery that last well. The unit feels well made and quite light to hold. Touch screen is sensitive and the wifi gives good range. It comes from a UK Tablet specialist.

(If you got one of these don't be caught out if the screen looks terrible on arrival, it has a very tight fitted protective film on the screen you need to peel off, quite tricky. Or you can leave it on to protect the screen, it still works ok)

Feel sorry for those buying at the high price! looking at the age range of the reviewer most seem to be pensioners, persuaded by that nice lady on the TV channel who makes it all sound easy. I feel angry that they are being (in my opinion) sold a bad, bad deal.

I much appreciate you post Sillygoose and have noted all you say.

I think I am right in saying Ideal World have a 30 day money back guarantee so if it fails to measure up to my requirements then I would send it back and with your link to the 7" tablet, proceed with that one.

I know it's only an inch bigger, but as they say........................

Normally, when I am interested in anything, I take a look to see if Amazon have it and read User reviews, but they don't have one for the Ainol Novo7 Legend - 8GB - 7" 5-point Touch Screen - Android 4

Oh, re print size, isn't it possible to expand/stretch with fingers?

OK, give it a go if you wish,

but its a lot more than an inch!! its also down to the ratio of the screen, the measurements they quote are diagonal so the height/width ratio makes a big difference too.

Your 6" 16:9 ratio Gotab has a screen area of 15" square inches The 7" 4:3 ratio Tablet I suggest has 23.5"

So that 1" (on paper) is actually getting you 8.5" more square inches!!

It does get sold reviewed on Amazon.....
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Legend-Capacitive-Allwinner-Accelerator-Compatible/dp/B00A8LIPHG/ I tend not to link to these sort of things on amazon as many of the sellers ship from China and its also available from UK sellers which is preferable.

Yes you can pinch and expand text, it can get a bit tiresome doing it all the time though.

Just to emphasise sillygoose's point, that's 56% more screen area, which is very significant.

You could try cutting two pieces of cardboard to compare screen sizes - the 6" screen would be 5.2" x 2.9" and the 7" would be 5.6" x 4.2" - quite a difference.

All you both have said is duly noted. No doubt mine will arrive this week, so will try it for a few days and see how we go. Thanks thus far.

PS, are you saying the screen will be just over two inches one side?
