Was sticking nicely to only buying fruit for this month but struck lucky with great reductions in Asda yesterday, 75% off meat it would have silly not to take advantage, first time in weeks I have seen really good reductions so spent 8.00, would have been 24.00. and stocked up for next month. 5.00 on fruit for this week.

Am pleased as have only spent 21.00 so far and only 12 days to go.

Have at last got my appointment to see consultant for my eyes tommorow morning, am nervous but so hoping he will agree to operate
as totally fed up now at not being abe to see properly.

Envious on the 75% off Meg72, I timed it right in the co-op a few weeks ago or we would have no meat left now.

I have been doing the GC on and off for years now but I am struggling to cope with the current drastic reduction in spend. Going back and re-reading the first few posts really made me think each time I go shopping about exactly what I am spending and why. Make do and mend need to be the focus for me.

With this in mind I didn't go to Lidl at the weekend as planned, nor did I give into the 'no bread' whines and sneak to the co-op. I did a stock take (and scary it was too - for a hoarder my cupboards and freezer are very empty). I made some bread for the boys, and a bung it in spanish omelette thing for packed lunches.

Cooking bacon is a life saver - £1.09 in MrS for a huge packet. Have to chose carefully, this one is nearly all streaky which is great. It has gone into the omelette and into cauli cheese and it will go into the stretched chicken tomorrow.

Drinking chocolate/nesquik is working ok instead of cocoa for chocolate buns - subbing a third of the sugar like for like. No complaints from the boys anyway. Same with chocolate buttercream - subbing the icing sugar for nesquik working well.

Popped in to co-op for some essentials on way home-bread, milk & some creme fraiche for the turkey, bacon & leek pie we'll be having for dinner with roasted sweet potatoes=£3.14. Thanks to the GC I avoided buying the sweets I always end up buying when I just pop in!

Planning on putting in £5 tomorrow for the organic veg bag scheme at uni tomorrow, so then we just need to last til Thurs when it arrives on what's in now-easily doable just requires creativity. Veg bag will hopefully see us through the next week with help from the freezer until the next sm shop. I've updated my sig-we're smashing our first months budget so far so fingers crossed we keep it up and can lower it next month.

    Hi everyone.

A couple of spends today as we needed cat food and had run out of squash and if I don't replace squash they drink loads of expensive fruit juice! Total spend was £5.83 but there is enough food to feed the cat for a couple of weeks.
I have also had a refund I was due processed this week so my sig has been adjusted.

Will need fruit and veg later in the week but we are steadily eating our way through our freezer stocks so I might even get it defrosted for the first time in a very long time:o

Have a good rest of the week.

Guys can I ask how you meal plan ?

There's only me, and some days I have practically no appetite - plus I work 4 days of 12 hour shifts.

I'm wondering if I would be better just doing a massive cooking day and freezing everything in metal containers for convenience, but I'm worried that it'll never get eaten, or I'll never get round to fancying it.

    Any ideas ???

Meg72 - hope your appointment tomorrow goes well.

Spent £14.96 today in Morri$ons Am expecting to go over budget this month with spends.

Tea tonight was Corned Beef Hash, last time I had it I wasn't keen on it but this was lovely. Used half a leek up in it and a couple of mushrooms as well, then we had a few strawberries with some crème fraiche and mint.
