Have done something similar in the past (more a mix of this and asparagus risotto) and added some smoked chopped bacon which gives it a bit more depth or maybe smoked sausage, chorizo or similar.
Thanks BJ, it was a veggie night so maybe a it of smoked paprika or something might have done the trick?GC Jan £101.91/£150 Feb £70.96/150 Mar £100.43/150 Apr £108.45 app/150 May £149.70/150 Jun £155.15/150 July £85.95/£150 (includes food, toiletries and cleaning from 13th to 12th of each month. OOD (Out Of Date) tinned foods are still perfectly edible unless its tinned meat/fish.
Just what I was going to say!0 -
Finally catching up with our grocery spends after having family down over the bank holiday weekend - ended up dropping into the shops to pick up some bits they needed and of course the OH and I got sidetracked from our £50-til-the-17th budget thanks to being hungry and tired, so we got lots of random non-helpful foodstuffs to the amount of £34.35.
So eeking out meals over the next several days is going to get interesting. OH will probably crack soon, he's not totally on-board with just using up bits we've got... will have to try and convince him to be more open about trying new things(!). It should be easier when we've got time & energy to cook up stuff from scratch - tonight we had a wobble over food thanks to being out quite late and not having something organised, whoops. But managed by whipping up some pasta (for him) and omelette (for me). Polished off with cake & custard - so not too shabby really!
Another spend of £2.83 on some salady bits, so still technically on budget, but time will tell...!

Thank you so much everyone for your kind words and thoughts today , what a lovely bunch of people you all are. :grouphug:
Had to get some fruit this morning as only had two small oranges left. Spent £8.60 plus we also brought flowers but not counting these in the GC.
For tea we had piri piri chicken wings, wedges and salad. OMG they were extra hot but delicious. Then had some fresh pineapple which was refreshing and cooling.
Have taken something out of the freezer ready for tomorrow but not sure what it is yet.
I really must label my food better. Am edging on it being rather thin pork steaks but will let you know.
I used to be terrible at labeling and still have various UFO`s in the freezer, now I keep a black Sharpie on top of the freezer and just write on the plastic bag, it writes easy and dosn`t come off.Slimming World at target0 -
Running slightly over budget after 2 weeks at €311.08/€750. I'm blaming the bank hol weekend and DD1 going back to college and slipping her food in my shopping trolley! I was tempted to deduct it from her weekly money but that would have made me the meanie mum! She's not home this weekend so I should be able to economise a bit!
Shopping day 2moro so tonight is stock taking to see what we need!0 -
