did my weekend's shopping in iceland using my lovetoshop vouchers from the talktalk MSE deal.. the stuff seems cheap enough and ok so happy days.
i've done my meal plan for the week which will include sunday dinner followed by rubber chicken meals.. now I am racking (wracking??) my brains as I'm sure I've seen an email from lidl or aldi with 2 chickens for about £6.. has anyone seen this? I've been checking my emails + internet to try and find where it is.. maybe it's an expired offer but if it rings any bells with anyone I'd be most grateful
hope you're all having a good week x
'wracking' - I hope you find your chicken bargains. I am seriously considering shopping at Lidl, but I don't seem to find much when I go there - we cook most things from scratch. Free-range chickens are £7-8 at Morrisons!0 -

The chickens are 2 for £5.99 in Aldi from Tomorrow.0 -
Final spends I am hoping for a little while as have stocked up on almost everything, might need eggs but that should be it. Really would like not to go shopping next week atall, off work on study leave and would prefer no little interruption's of needing to pop out for something silly!!
So, my first order from Approved Foods arrived today and I am very impressed, the price of the items and their service is well worth a gamble, will definitely be using them again.
AF £24.80, Mr T's £52.08 and Ald's £25.73. Really staring to begrudge using Tesco's but can't say no to bargains and with their Daz at £4 at the moment and a few other things we use a lot, had to go and stock up.0 -
Hi everyone
Hugs to MrsCautious and Billie-jo, hope you're doing ok and don't be worrying about a few treats just now!
Small spend on Monday, brilliant YS bargains at local Mr T Garage(I never get good ones lol as local Morrisons is awful and only reduces to about half price) - 10p for rocket salad, 7p for 6 pittas and 5p for a swede. So 22p all in
, pittas in freezer and ate salad last night, will make soup out of the swede. No spends yesterday but will need milk and rolls today.
WantToBeSE - aw thanks and glad you like the blog:D

lottie3000 - thanks for the chicken update!
budgeteer - i always cook from scratch too.. confess the chickens are not FR though (that's a whole other debate i think).. lidl/aldi meat is nice and their fruit/veg etc bargains always help..everything else is definitely significantly cheaper too and same quality ... thanks for the "wracking" confirmation too
i prefer aldi to lidl but both of them are preferable (to me) than the big supermarkets - on price, of course, but also because they are nice and small-ish and you can get round + shopping done in 10 mins. even with a list i seem to lose ages in the big supermarkets wandering round looking at all the aisles piled high with choice i don't needCC1 £7,944.10
CC2 £2,680.03
CC3 £1,020.880 -
Argh, spent hours making bread (OK, so the BM did all the hard work
) and leaving it to rise etc...then dropped it when i went to put it in the oven to bake and half of it touched the floor!
But (and please dont judge me) i scooped it up and put it in the oven anyway
It was as flat as a pancake after being dropped..lets home it turns out ok!
Update in regards to the after school snacks: Whoever suggested the bread and soup, and the carrot/cucumber stick-you are a genius! The bread is working a treat (when i dont drop it) and i have also bought a bag of Tesco everyday value frozen fruit. I think it costs approx £1 for a bag, as well as extra carrots etc, and some basioc value salsa dip. Less than £10 for a weeks snacks!
So thanks for all the ideas!0 -

To MrsCautious and Billie-Jo,
I'm coming up to the anniversary of losing my Dad. It's been 12 years now, and it still makes me catch my breath now and then. I can only promise that it does slowly get easier with time.
I remember the howling gale of empty in my chest for what seemed like months/years, I can't even tell you when it loosened, or passed or whatever you want to call it. I just know that it became easier to remember with a smile than a tear.
And have as much chocolate or comfort as you want. I'm having a steak dinner on the 14th June, just as I do every year. It was my Dad's favourite dinner (and mine) and I'll be damned if I'm giving it up for an MSE exercise.
Sometimes, it simply isn't about the money, nor should you feel that it has to be.
I wish you peace over the coming times x
Edit: to stay on thread, I had breakfast and lunch from my stash. NSD for me so far. Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

WantToBeSE wrote: »To reduce my spends even further, i am going vegetarian/vegan as many days a week as possible. I need to stock up on different beans/pulses. Does anyone know which SM is cheaper for this-Tesco, Morrisons, Aldi or Lidl? Those are the only SMs i have near me, and i dont have any Asian SMs.
I don't know about the beans, Lidl and Aldi always seem to have very few beans when I go in.
It might not suit you, but after I saw someone posting about bags of frozen pulses for sale in some sm, I buy a bag of pulses every month, soak, cook in my slow cooker overnight, portion it into can sized amounts (all recipes seem to use a can as the measurement). I now have a range in the freezer and it takes little time. I use a large silicon muffin mould to freeze them in then pop them out into bags. I tried pressure cooking them but the beans seemed to pop their skins and end up mushy and not very attractive.
