Evening everyone,
Thank you all for your comments about my SC(!) - how pathetic do I sound when others have far more important concerns going onAnyway, DH has had a look and thinks the thermostat has gone, so it's going in the bin - very sad about that, but think I'm more sad about the waste of good DR meat that was ruined
Went to Che$$ington today with DS1, his GF, DD and DS2. We all took a packed lunch but I did pay out for a coffee and some icecreams when there - different budget. Feel absolutely shattered now as I'm used to sharing the driving with DH. Early night on the cards I think.
Dinner tonight was A!di ambient filled tortellini. I whipped up a quick cheese sauce and served with sugar snap peas. Just what was needed as we didn't get home until 8pm!
Have a good evening everyone.

I love food, and cooking, and er... Eating. I am also trying to save money. So I am trying to build up a few "use it up" recipes. I don't eat meat, but the principle would be the same I guess - old reliable recipes that you can vary according to what you need to use up. Chilli and curry are already favourites but tonight I made minestrone
Recipe here http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/wordofmouth/2011/sep/01/how-to-cook-perfect-minestrone-soup
I thought I hated minestrone - my mum had packets of weird freeze dried stuff and the canned stuff doesn't seem much better.
This recipe was gorgeous and I can see it being endlessly adaptable.Grocery Challenge (2 adults 2 kids)

Aw right thanks I was thinking it was probably to do with pigs trotters that my nan used to rave about,.apparently when she and my Grandad were courting they used to go to the 6d pictures and he would bring pigs trotters for them to slurp in the back row.
Bleurgh, that sounds revolting :rotfl:I like the sound of Jelly sweets much better.

Ahah, me too - to all of the above! Love food, don't eat meat, need to save money (and lose weight ideally). Funnily enough I was looking for minestrone recipes earlier as DS mentioned he had some at his dad's. Like you, I am scarred by packet versions in childhood but the recipes I found look both delicious and very adaptable! http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/4807/chunky-minestrone-soup0 -
Evening All
Have to admit my cupboards are starting to look a bit sparse this week, so think weekly shop at weekend might be , but will do my best to get lots for my money. I have a £5 off £40 Mr T voucher which should help a bit.
Did a mid-week roast after work/school tonight for me, DS and DD. Easy, half-price ready basted turkey joint was nice and just enough for us (said it was for 4, over-stating a bit Mr T!), mash, swede, carrots, peas, gravy, good old yorkshires to fill them up a bit. Just sliced up fruit for afters.
Supplies of treats for lunchboxes had run out, made quick choc chip loaf cake while oven was on, we all had slice with glass of milk for supper, but still enough for lunches tomorrow.
Night all, sleep tight. Guineapigsqueaks x

oop i have been busted for my money saving ways... quote from mr sheep this morning.. "this fairy liquid seems rubbish, I wonder what's wrong with it"... o well that will be because it's everyday value washing up liquid in the fairy bottle
Not really MSE though as we have gone through nearly a full bottle in a week.. still at least i've tried it but won't be getting it again.
Re percy pigs -- if you're on o2 for your mobile then there is a code on the o2 moments app for a free packet of percys - they are individual codes so there's no point me putting it on the codes board but worth checking out if you have it x
I am off to revise my sig again as loads more stuff appeared in the cupboards yesterday.. can't complain though as i got home yesterday to find mr sheep and his daughter had baked me a birthday cake and some of the new purchases were used for that
have a fab weekend all xxxCC1 £7,944.10

Morning all
So, i did my 1st ever Aldi food shop yesterday. The place was MANIC! The good side was that because it was their opening day, they were giving loads of snacks away for the kids, so my son had loads of snacks
I couldn't really see what was there properly, so i will have a proper look when i go back next week.
It seems pretty similar to Lidl, which is where i normally shop, and the prices look similar.
Have updated my sig to reflect yesterdays spends0
