  • Did not manage to have a another NSD today as had a rather lousy and long day at work. Everything that could go wrong went wrong

Anyway, consequently home late, tired and grumpy so treated myself with some sushi on way home £6.10. Not a huge spend, but had already taken meal out of freezer yesterday which will now likely end up in bin as I'm invited for dinner at friends tomorrow and don't really fancy taking it for lunch tomorrow. Not very mse I fear......

But really enjoyed the sushi and it greatly improved my mood :D

Small spend today of £1.60 on value laundry liquid and 89p on a couple of pints of milk.

OH cooked today and made the chilli con carne meatballs from Jamie's 15 minute cookbook, they were pretty good but I think we'd tweak them a bit next time.

EDIT, pasta looks great K9sandFelines :)

Thanks BG, wish i hadn't put the recommended amount of stock in, but it is in the freezer, so i can thicken up the portion coming out of there. Your meatballs sound nice too :)

  • Wow, its taken me the past 3 days to catch-up on the thread! We did our weekly shop on Sat. Did some stocking up at MrT so I could use my voucher and it wasn't even valid yet - unimpressed! £40.60 spent there (shame I couldn't get the free £5 off as I'd just about calculated it right too) and can't do the same next week as don't need much food and would be spending more for the sake of it, grrrr. At least I only bought deals or stuff at good prices. Also £1.72 in Mr A on apples and bananas as much cheaper there and £1 on some delicius strawbs from local greengrocer that I couldn't resist! Need minimal spends for the rest of the month now!

Was too tired to go to supermarket to get salad and other bits and bobs before making tea tonight so swapped around my meal plan and defrosted 2 chicken drumsticks each, brushed with cumin, coriander, turmeric, black pepper and crushed chillies in olive oil, most of these in cupboard since my daughters made curry at school, served with defrosted YS Bombay potatoes which were 9p a portion and frozen peas For one fleeting moment I'd considered getting an Indian takeaway tonight as have come down with headachy cold and painful sore throat, but happy not to have succumbed. My girls insisted I rested rather than going shopping and stuck the washing on, bless them.

Got Love2Shop gift card in the post. It will have £11.70 on it from Top Cashback, though I don't know how long this will take to 'load' -- this is from joining up with TCB back in November I think, but it's a very welcome little bonus, I'm going to use it in Iceland on groceries (only ever nipped in for milk before) and not count the cost iyswim as it's a freebie. Did some nectar Adpoints quickly (I have the videos on with the sound down in front of Corrie -- what an exciting life I lead!) So far this week I'm at 44 points, not a massive amount but still worth having IMHO. I've got £7.50ish worth of points and when it gets to a tenner, I will take that off my shopping.

Went through some work emails to find I have been offered some review samples of a new washing up liquid and cleaning products so have asked for these, to help me with this challenge and to help kick start a blog about money saving. So I thought that was encouraging too. Wanted to get petrol at a BP garage on way back from Wales today to help get more Nectar points but was mistaken about where they were -- caught myself being a bit disappointed, as I would have earned about 10p in points, I think I was just possibly going a bit far. :)

Coxy11, what a pain in the neck for you! I hope it's something that can be addressed and not happen again. I asked for a SC from some friends for my birthday this year and it is yet to be used -- have avoided it tbh. Tiny bit scared of messing up, ridiculous I know. I have a v cheap cut of lamb in the freezer which can be the first in the pot.

Hey don't be scared, the sc is a wonderful thing.. hope coxy's gets fixed though .. what a nightmare.
i do find meat can be a bit tough but get round that by browning it in a frying pan first before adding to sc

mince is fine though (chilli, shep pie filling, bolognese etc) xx

The SC is a great kitchen item to have, and I find they are really simple to use. Just chop up stuff and chuck it in with some sort of liquid, then let it simmer away for the day!

Managed a couple of NSD days here which has made me very happy. We are away next weekend (fri, sat and sun) and I have plenty in, so I'm hoping not to do a weekly shop next week. Will devise a meal plan for the 4 days we are here and then just get any bits we might need, probably just milk and bread.
This might just help me to stay in budget as I am dangerously close now :P
