Don't they write to you some months before State Pension age?
If so, how could your friend be oblivious to the fact she can claim her state pension?
1. Because she moves house frequently
2. Because she has a laid back attitude to money
3. Because she is always too busy to follow up advice from me
So, quite easy really. I'm the opposite. I always know what's due.0 -
I will use mine to pay towards my winter fuel bill. That's novel!0

Ours will go into savings meantime, and be used when required.
Which will probably be when we find our DD fuel payment is less than the bills!0 -
Will I still be eligible when I reach state retirement age but choose to defer my pension? I did read the link but no wiser
Yes, you're entitled to it but beware; in my case they kept forgetting and I had to remind them - every year, three times in all.0 -

We have to tax the car between now and the end of November, so £100 each will be used for that.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

The wfa has not kept pace with increased fuel prices, it should be linked to RPI, and paid for by scrapping FIT payments.
This won't happen, I expect the winter fuel allowance to wither on the vine, like the £10 Christmas bonus. Time to get rid of that I think, it annoys me every year.0 -

OK, but I really do doubt that she's 'oblivious' (the word you used) to the fact she can claim her state pension.0 -

I think you're right. The only reason all these, WFP and £10, aren't being scrapped altogether, is that our elected representatives know there'd be a huge political fall-out and they might lose the 'grey vote'. The £10 was originally equivalent to another week's pension payment, so it really was worth something. 'That nice Mr Heath' as my mother used to say.Not what I'd call him, but having an extra week's money really did mean she could use it for Christmas.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.
