. Drtifosi has been really ill. It is a long recovery (much longer than it should have been if things went to plan) but he appears - after several weeks of very trying circumstances - to have turned the corner and finally be on the road to recovery.

Glad to hear that he is recovering albeit more slowly than hoped for. I hope you can carve some time for yourself as well and don't get too worn out.
That's expensive really. I'd love to do it, but it's too expensive to even do my own family.... all those copies of certificates mean you're spending money hand over fist just to check and prove everything.... never mind the time it takes.

Am I the only person that has zero interest in their ancestors? I've never had the slightest wish to discover who they were, what they got up to. I suspect the answers would be, peasants and not much;)

It wouldn't be if someone told the NP's but then again, who would do that? Does anyone know your login and that you have mates on here?
I know my OH wouldn't know how to log on, I don't think he knows my username...

Happened on another forum I am in, a lady died in a car crash; fortunately her OH knew her log in details and contacted the forum. It's a very small forum where everyone knows everyone and he just contacted the admin. It was nice to know because we would have just wondered what had happened to her and a couple of people that lived locally attended her funeral service although they had never actually met in RL.

And happy weekend to you too lir. I am going to have a wonderful weekend, lots planned and I may bore you with it next week!

Never boring bugslet, I love the way you chat, you always sound so upbeat and impressive.

Its my today that's going to be the busiest. We're getting an unplanned Skype this weekend though and I'm going to throw away the dogs sofas ( which kiwi ate.....two leather sofas, gifted to the dogs last year by a friend whose cat had scratched them and they had to replace them for their landlady, but they were pretty decent condition. Too good for dog sofas. Never mind. Better the bTl leather sofas than my antique ones!

Aw shucks lir. I am lucky at the moment and nothing much to whinge about. Mr Bugs is safe, work is busy and assured till the end of the year, by Oct we will know if it carries on until the end of 2014. Contracts usually re-new, but you can never tell and sooner or later some muppet that has done a transport degree will come along and try to apply supermarket chain logistics theory to what we do, which doesn't work, but sounds good *lots and lots of eye rolling*. Mutts happy, so all is well in bugslet world.

I've been lucky with dog chewing, Ruby had a phase for modem cables when she was a pup and Heidi for wallpaper, other than that, no serious damage.

Don't over exert yourself and did you find your pills?

Ancestors, I know about some of them.. A few tears ago i found an appreciation society or fansite about one of them and was able to tell them some missing information and where family lore differed from the dry facts they had. I do feel very much a product of my genes and experience. But,..I feel overriding ly me. If it turned out that it was all a myth or someone else's family I'd still be me. I'm not interested in researching it. Sibling quite wanted to because of a particular reason of status but I pointed out with the smooth the rough come out of the woodwork;)

No, I haven't found the pills. These are the brain ones. Got the new ones, just not the 'old' ones.

I keep missing the weather report on tv. Very annoying!

You know PN, seem to find cooking interesting and to you it's just a pain? (BTW, I am the same). That's what ancestors are like for me. I only knew one grandparent and I just can't work out why I would be interested in people that I never knew more than I would be say, your grandparents. If someone came along and gave me the info, I'd find it interesting, in the same way I find lots of things interesting.

I'm just not that much into family really.

Yes, have a good downtime this weekend everybody. Hope viva's OH recovers as quickly as possible.

I've got to get work done on the big car. The tube that connects the petrol cap and the petrol tank's not working (can't put in more than about 10 litres at a timed). Can't even think of the name for the part.

I suppose it helps if you have little old stories, passed down. Snippets that you want to flesh out with details.

I have one who hung himself in public.....

And my mother's father emigrated, no idea which year, only know the country - and apparently became successful and there was an article in the paper about him, except I don't know his name.

And the aunt who sent the Rolls/chauffeur to collect dad for his holidays .... who was she?

One of my names is after one who hanged herself, and is a mildly famous ghost in the town where she did that.

What I like about my lot is how disparate they are. I suppose its partly I now excuse my scattered brain and jumpy interests. Its normal in my family......its just in the past it was easier to have 'portfolio interests' if you had some money because comparatively each interest was less expensive.....or the money was worth more or something. :D

I'd say most of the people I know who have tried it and stuck at it (and who are not of immigrant stock, which complicates things massively) have managed to get back to the 1700s along at least one line.

That's where I got, when I was still a student - back to 1850 in Wales (too many very common names), 1800 in other places, and 1701 on one line, which had a "!!!!!!!y order" made in favour of the parish, against both the mother and father for looking after the child of their union, born in 1700.

Also got to 1650 on a different line, in and around what is now Merseyside.

Edited to add - that's what it was called, could be translated as an "illegitimacy order", I suppose
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.
