That makes all the hoo-haa about gender-neutral succession a bit of a waste of time and effort, then.

At least she wasn't in labour for several days - my nerves couldn't have took it.

I must be feeling immensly brave, as I'm possibly pulling NDG up on this, but should that not read "taken" rather than "took"?

    *ducks for cover...*

It should indeed - I typed that because that's an old family joke, to the point where I use it automatically! "me nerves couldn't have took it" is something my Granny used to say self-mockingly, and we all picked it up.

One of my sisters also, to mock pretensious use of French bon mote, says things such as, "it had a certain quelle heure et il".
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.

Caspar! Should I wait and let PN do the honours? :)

28 C already in my office on the top floor of my house. I am wearing shorts ......... and a watch. Hoping the doorbell is not going to ring.

On holiday I overheard some ridiculous names that would've elicited similar responses. Prentiss, ellie-may, sienna and the worst of all, felix!

I mean, why name your child after catfood?:)

Similar temperature here. Isaac's refused to get dressed properly, and is wearing pants and a T-shirt. Caspar, on arrival, stripped to match him, and they are now building a lego castle or something.

Whilst you gain your short commute you do lose the chance to put them in the paddling/swimming pool on to the trampoline etc with central London living (and the pool may also have experienced some skinny dipping when it was dark last night ;)

It's a subtley different naming stream. No Rupert, no Tarquin, at Isaac's school. But there are plenty of children called things such as Cosmo, Caspar, Sienna, Aquamarine (girl), Octavia, Beatrice etc. Isaac's unusual in having a Biblical-type name.

When my Dad saw the class list on the fridge, he said, "John? That child's in for bullying in the playground for having a weird name....."

You see I am posh enough to know the difference between Caspar and Rupert and with the kids going to an RC school we don't suffer too badly with silly names especially amongst the boys. I think at the party we had Lily and Freya (not too bad), Maria (Polish heritage), Jessica, Alvina (Pakistani herritage), Sophie, Isabella (Portuguese/Spanish), Evie (actually something unpronouncable/spellable from Eire), Grace and Lea (pronounced Leah and rather letting the side down).
    I think....

Similar to our house rule. Any bets, for anything at all, 15p. No more, no less...
Not even sure where it came from, but it stuck.

Well I checked all the garden out, & all appears well.
Gave the stuff in the greenhouse a feed last night. Decided to leave the stuff outside alone, as storms were forecast.
Was then woken up a few times in the night by thunder etc. Glad I left it. As mentioned by others, it proper wellyed!
Rainfall was heavy, but not too excessive imo, so I doubt any plants have been adversely affected.

Thunder through the night & continued this morning. Only recently stopped. Will have done the gardens good though.

Cucumber plants have doubled in size in the week I was away! Loads of flowers on them, so I'm very hopeful there...

We swim stark naked in the cake in the middle of the day. I wouldn't ruin swimming costumes in that water .

Usually by the time we are out we are sort of dry enough to sort of dress and walk back the direct route past the front of the place where you guys parked...Or we walk back the long way. (With a dash in front of the gate if need be, one day we'll have tall gates. DH did the whole route last week just in flip flops. Sundays are pretty quiet when there is no silage cutting. (Edit, so are weekdays between about ten and three and then after about six....unless clients are up. )
