DW very nearly killed a motorcyclist who crashed into her.
In other words he was betting his life on DW being a better driver than she actually is.
In my younger days I wrote off two motorcycles in two years.
Both were low speed collisions in towns, travelling at 30 mph.
In both cases a car pulled out right in front of me from a side street, and I ploughed straight into the bonnet.
The deeply worrying thing is that both cars were driven by middle age women, and both were green Volvo estates.
On the second occasion I just had time to think "Oh No, not a...." before being launched into the air over the bonnet.
I've had a pathological fear of middle age women driving green Volvos ever since.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

If you are prepping for some competition yourself, of you are being paid to ride the horse (particularly to make it road safe) or bring it on. Or to deal with certain injuries and rehabs, There are things that cannot be done in a school or field in all weather conditions but they still have to be done.
So how does everyone get to play nicely? IME a road race will clear a stretch of road in 30 mins maximum so in the winter even that should leave 5.5 hours of daylight for other users.

My feeling is that communication is key.
When they do races here they often do figure of eight or twice or three times around a round route. It must be boring for the participants too. But the point it, then it becomes a full day thing. There was a (running) road race here a few months ago (there is a more well known one going the other direction from the village, so I guess they are trying to get people who are inspired by that) and it was fun, enjoyable.......we let the stewards use our open fronted road side yard for a water place etc.
The other thing to consider is that areas rarely have 'one" of these a year. We have the new running race, a few cycling ones (as well as the huge number of leisure cyclists who insist in shouting in fairly crude terms about women they know.....(you never here the women cyclists doing the same interestingly) and the road rally drivers a few times in summer months.....so what's 'only thirty minutes one day' for some users, is often frequent for local inhabitants!
Communication really is key, we didn't know about the road race until a couple of days before, and it went from mid morning to mid to late afternoon.....essentially that was all the daylight time, so not safe to ride then. This didn't cost me anything as things stand, but will in the future. I am all for sharing though, it was fun...just perhaps not ultimately the best route or plan considering the number of other road users,, In fact, I saw several near horrid crashes on our bend.....with cars still using the road and exhausted runners cutting the bend.
On the plus side, I think it's really good for the local pubs and b and b's0 -
Just heard that we won our court case against our Landlord in Italy.
.
Our Italian lawyer was keen for us to appeal for a greater compensation, but it was never about the money for us (if it were we'd be bitter now, besides which we have yet to see if we will ever see the colour of his money!) but rather about the rightness and taking a stand against a poor landlord. Sometimes you just gotta do things because you can.
Anyway, at least that's one suit out of the way before we start on the heating people. Oh dear.......I don't like identifying as someone litigious.0 -

Be afraid...very afraid....I had grey volvo estate for many years.....then Mr S got a Green one (it was low and fast...and he stupidly tried to a tow horse trailer with it...top gear have just taken one on a trip to find the source of the Nile)0 -
My salary sacrifice to minimum wage scheme has run in to an unexpected hurdle as a result of PHI/life cover. Looks like either I will need to arrange seperate additional cover or it is back to the drawing board, may be looking at a 50k cap for 4 years but that is less lucrative overall by about 8k net
Part of the problem is I also don't really 'trust' pensions as at the end of the day the govt can change the rules and you can't get at the money to put it somewhere safe.I think....0 -

Our car was green, but not a Volvo, and DW would only now admit to being middle-aged. That accident was 20 years ago.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Not mine, but close enough, a red (pet) volvo F88 with a woman driver - that must terrify Hamish at the mere thought.0 -
