Burst water main not far away has stopped water supply to the house.

We have enough to have given the dogs some water, the cats some and to keep the horses going for at least the morning in this weather. After that I'm edgey.
    Spade...... go dig well.

Sometimes we produce things that don't become popular here but are absolutely classic. If you get the chance to watch the police/crime series "The Shadow Line" you'd be amazed.

I wonder if someone moved countries whether they would still try to tune into their home countries telly and whether that delays their integration into the new home.

When I was a kid I used to think it would be brilliant if we could see other countries telly.

Problem is now it's happening, the quality seems so low I'm deeply underwhelmed. I'm not saying it's all embarassing stuff like "Mind Your Language" or "Love Thy Neighbour". It's just boring stuff like "The History of Concrete" or "Banqueting with Cabbage"

Gen, SC, CK, all spend time in other countries and I wonder how much it's worth tuning into
    a) stuff from home
    b) global stuff from the US we all watch
    c) local good stuff like the Returned/all these Scandinavian detective series?

Luther's utterly topical at the moment. Gotta watch the 4th episode!

Aussie locally produced TV is mostly crap. The population here is small so the budgets are on a similar scale.

Having said that, there are some diamonds in the turds. There's a program called the Gruen Transfer which is notionally about advertising but in reality looks at the world through the eyes of advertising professionals. It is in turns funny, interesting and frightening.

There's some good documentary stuff on ABC (our BBC) and SBS (our Channel 4 pre-Big Brother only more multi-culti & multi-lingual). SBS has some really interesting looking Indigenous programming coming up too.

Drama generally swings between poor and embarrassingly awful.

Sports coverage is generally excellent although sometimes a little odd. For example, we get exactly the same coverage & commentary on the F1 as in the UK only we have a bloke sitting in a studio in Melbourne somewhere who will get a few 2 minute slots to talk about how Mark Weber is doing which is really clunky and weird.

Cycling TV here is fantastic: mostly on free to air SBS. We get every last second of the Giro, the Tour de France and the Vuelta. We also get a 45(?) minute program every Sunday evening rounding up the week's cycling stories a la MoTD.

TBH I don't watch much TV except sports and the odd documentary. If there's nothing on Fox Sports (by which I mean they're showing Aussie Rules/Rugby League/Golf) then I'll turn on the Food Channel which is Jamie/Gordon/Hugh Fernley-Sh!ttingstall/some bloke making cakes.

There was some great TV on Fox Sports last night involving the ritual humiliation of 11 Australians. :T:rotfl::T:rotfl::T:rotfl::T

Hmm - we got one of those panasonics, lets just hope the bearings go before the 5 years is up and we get a replacement PDQ - being without a washing machine for even a few days is a pain in the proverbial. I have this suspicion that they do not uprate the bearings for the large load fast spin machines, our last one failed on the bearings at just over two years old and the retailer refused to do anything about it and it wasn't economical to fix :(

if someone tries that rubbish on with you.

A washing machine, except perhaps the very cheapest one, should last more than 2 years without a catastrophic failure. Ergo they should pay for repair or refund you (less some depreciation IIRC). If you sue you will win and the shop's lawyers know that. They'll settle.

Post on there and Clitheroekid will pick up your query eventually. He's amazing. He must have given £100ks-worth of legal advice for nothing over the years: he's regularly posted letters for people to copy and paste that they can send from 'their lawyer' and will take people through things step-by-step.

Advice to anyone talking to Clitheroekid: he's amazing but don't give him any aggro. He's worth his weight in gold and works through the fool for nothing.

I'd read elsewhere on a thread that the reasonable time within which no major white goods should fail within is at least six years and may be worth complaining about within ten years.

Love that name citheroekid. Went on holiday to Bispham when I was a nipper. (Maybe only BertieUK /John Pierpoint/davesnave might get the reference)

It's hot, but I've got to have my patio door closed because some numpty's piercing car alarm's going off in the car park 30' away.... and it resets itself every 2 minutes, waits 20 seconds, then starts again. It's just like a smoke alarm piercing sound .... so loud it sounds like it's in this room with the door open.

Problem is even if you know your rights if you don't have a working washing machine you need it resolved in 48 hours Max, 1 trip to the laundrette is 1 to many in terms of time and expense.
    I think....

Perfectly true. That's why you get advice from Clotheroekid, replace the machine and then sue.

    I've had mine since 24/02/2010

There is a fair chance they will go. If the machine gets noisy on fast spin or turn the drum with your hand and you can feel it "rough/gritty" at turning, then your bearing is on its way out.

Edit. Just to say that the machine still works but is very noisy on fast spin, so hopefully 0 down days.
