This Friday, normal end of school time of day. They go back on Wed 3rd Sept.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
You over complicated things to start with. Add up the cost of the bags, the cost of the printer inks, your time spent faffing around....I would have thought better of you.
There are two requirements for going home presents:
1. the kids have something to hold as they leave the party,
2. the something is not going to melt all over car seats/ clothes.
Even party bags means you have wasted money on the bags to start with - they are only going in the bin.
Go to the supermarket/ pound shop and buy some cheap colouring books. For the time that the kids were going to spend decorating bags, let them loose in the garden. If you want to add to the entertainment value, put a circular sprinkler in the middle of the lawn and challenge them to run from one side of the garden to the other without getting wet.
Dress it up to your kids, that the bags were only in reserve in case the weather was bad. Who wants to keep the kids indoors in weather like this?
If you really want to personalise the going home presents, stick labels on each book "Thank you for coming to ____'s party. Hope you had fun."
I think the time is the biggie, the other costs are not that great for 15 party bags. A quick to Tesco this AM and some cotton T-shirts sorted the problem anyway. The point of the bags was that being cotton tote bags they might have got reused rather than being thrown away instantly and DW would then get the pleasure of seeing bags commemorating her party being carried by her friends at school.
It may get a mention anyway as her teacher came and collected his daughter (who was there as DD2's friend) and was there for at least half an hour, long enough to be involved in a water pistol fight with the half of his class who were there.
Just come in from a soak in the pool (/large jacuzzi with no bubbles) but now waiting for the hot water to warm up again as we drained the tank. The pool filter/chlorinator is working but this presents new challenges with 3 in 1 test strips, ph balance, total alkalinity and the best place to buy hydrochloric acid...
DDs break up on Friday, DS seems to have 2 or 3 days the following week. Spanish student 1 goes home on Tuesday, apparently the way she looks at me makes DW jealous, being a gentleman I of course have not played upon this at all
I have waded through all today's post, GDB I hope you are OK. Having a plane is posh. The other big topic, whilst including some interesting scientific information is also just plain dirty and it is the 'nice' ladies who made all the running.I think....0 -
My pansies are not doing well in the heat, even watering every day and they are wilting. So what do I do when I go on holiday? Should I cut them right back so they need less water?
As the flowers die off, pull the petals etc off. It keeps the plants healthy & encourages more flowers to appear!:)It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
Well IMHO the hospital nurses didn't take it seriously enough, so I wouldn't be surprised if the general population are also lax.
Then, as others have said, we do jump on a plane without worrying about the radiation.
Talking of which, 4 days to my hols
Only 2 days for me...I'm off on tuesday! It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
It was in Paris that an American colleague of my husband taught me a new phrase which means my feet are killing me.
"My puppies are barking". We use this phrase to this day, used it this morning actually.
As I type i am sittting in the garden with my 'puppies' in a bowl of warm water with dead sea salts in, visitors are gone and I have abandoned all dignity in an attempt to cheer my feet up.rabbit_burrow wrote: »I think they like to be opposite to us. They call bottoms "fannies", and they call feet "puppies" (which incidentally we use as slang for two things a lot higher up on the body)
I know the saying to be "My dogs are barking". As rabbit-burrows says "puppies" is an entirely different part of the anatomy altogether (and only on ladies), so I'm quite pleased to read that your visitors have left before you soak your "puppies" in the bowl.
I presume it's the washing-up bowl as that's where I soak my 'barking dogs'. :rotfl:0 -

Isaac at least went to bed early, and fell asleep as soon as he was horizontal!
When do NP's children break up from school? Isaac's term finishes at noon on Friday, and he's off until about 11th September.
DS is off already. Local (SW London/Surrey borders) schools are finishing this week.
Allthessss kids will have been off for weeks. Meant to ask him if he gets cheaper flights if he flies from airports like Manchester /Newcastle when local schools are still on term time.
Don't think this thread has any posters/lurkers from Ireland but apparently both north and south have very, very long summer hols. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
I wondered, because I know that the two other children who live in our block of flats don't break up until a week on Friday. If this nice weather continues, and as Sam's having a week off starting on Thursday, I was thinking of taking Isaac to Kent for a few days, and perhaps going to Camber Sands or Greatstone. Which would be less crowded if the other little darlings are all still incacerated in their places of learning (-:...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

NDG, carpe diem!:jMy uni students left end of may and they return 19 september.
No biological progeny though
Don't start looking after postgrads!
I always remember reading an online conversation where one person said "you don't know having kids is good until you have them".
The reply was "we don't know that dog poo doesn't taste like watermelon till we try it. I'm not rushing!":rotfl:There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
