It was an American...who speaks no lovely language except American. What I wrote is what he said, "my puppies are barking".

Absolutely no poetry whatsoever. A middle American who was working in California..to him that was another country. Great fun though.
Sorry I meant French is a lovely language. They have a saying for things that don't make sense- "it's for the British" -they won't tell you that.:rotfl:
American English has its moments. Still calling autumn fall. Calling pavements sidewalks. I got a number of books about their idiosyncracies. There's a lot more than most people know.;)

I think they like to be opposite to us. They call bottoms "fannies", and they call feet "puppies" (which incidentally we use as slang for two things a lot higher up on the body)
  • Still, it explains where the shoe brand "hush puppies" came from.

Keeping those feet quiet by keeping them comfy.

No, no. It's fine. I just don't want to embarrass you further.

    I'm no where NEAR blushing.

Which should probably make me blush. :p

OTOH, the plane presumably becomes more or less valueless over its lifetime. So, at some point he has to write off the £25k. That has to be added to the £450 a year cost you mentioned. Even so, it sounds an *extremely* cheap way to fly.

The plane was manufactured in 1976 - so it's not depreciating fast. OH paid £25k for it in 2005, and it went down a bit in value in 2009-10, and it's risen a bit now, and is probably worth about £24k now. So not a big difference.

Which is why you can often buy the same type of 30 year old small aircraft for £50,000 if you want to, or an almost identical one for £20,000 if you want to. The difference is mostly just a matter of where in the lifecycle of engine hours and maintenance schedule it is, combined with how current the avionics are.

Flying is prohibitively expensive in the UK, and I'm very surprised (and a tad jealous) Mr NDG has found such a great deal.

The way Mr. NDG calculates the costs is this - he puts aside an amount per flying hour that adds up to all the maintenance which needs doing over the cycle -so there is no large bill suddenly. Rather, the cost of the do-it-every-X-hours stuff is all factored in as you go. So the rebuilding the engine isn't suddenly £15k, it's £3 per hour over 5,000 hours.

I am dying! Well, maybe that's an exaggeration. I tripped over on the pavement at lunchtime, and I have a *BIG* graze on my knee and another *BIG* graze on my elbow.

    Ouch!

Grazes hurt so much more than cuts, because of the big area of skin.

It's a lovely language. I love their word for now. It's the time you can hold in your hand. Main-tenant. Pure poetry. :)

Hebrew's a bit like that. If I wanted to say my age, it's not "I am 35", it's "I am the daughter of 5-and-30 years"

I assumed - because I'm like that - that because one person was talking about poo being radioactive, and another thinking about whether sex would be OK, that Nikster was wondering about an activity which might combine the two risk factors?

The only bit of hebrew I know was the word matos for aeroplane. It was from a tv series on accelerated language learning and it suggested picturing your mum throwing a model aeroplane into the air. It obviously worked!;)

It was all about how once somebody is made leader of a country they often have only a few days or weeks to become fluent in (usualy) French or English for diplomatic meetings.

    Yes, she was.

    :).

In fact though, its bile that's the issue ( um, no pun intended) and I also get a lot of bile out of my mouth very regularly ( not quite daily).

But neither of those two possible 'combination' factors are actually my concern this Time. (Its only a week. Right?)

Rather depressingly mine is far more mundane!
