Oh calls me "Cub" most of the time - because he used to call me "lion cub" as I apparently have a mane.

Mine have multiple names to cover all circumstances. Including the addition of my surname! They ignore all equally.:o

That's probably quite a shock in kiwi world; the more unusual the breed, the more everyone knows each other.

The breeder was very, very sweet and while not particularly a kindred spirit, a very kind and encouraging one, and knowledgable. I was hugely grateful for her.

I just thought we'd probably dropped down to a frankly more acceptable level of contact to me:o

We know lots of the big dog people mainly. Dog dog people not so much, apart from ones who are also in big dogs....it's a common pairing.

Between a Merc and a Skoda, I'd not be fussed either way. I'm not a Merc fan and the Skoda that I travelled in once, seemed fine to me. I think I saw CK say something about having Sprinters, but I don't even like them. Too expensive when they go wrong, equally reliable vans these days from other makers and by the time we are finished with them, the residuals are so low anyway, the merc badge really doesn't make any difference.

Mercedes are the only van supplier to offer an automatic gearbox, which whilst I don't care as I don't drive them often, several of our staff prefer them on the city routes (we tend to do city-to-city, so a lot of motorways, but a lot of driving on heavy routes)

Merc are also the only manufacturer (apart from VW, which work out more expensive overall) to convert the vehicles in the factory, as they're 50% LWB window van, and 50% LWB, similar to this:

It may just be me, but I prefer the convenience of not having to structurally alter the vehicles, but it doesn't mean I'd have a Mercedes car (the vans are replaced every 120-150k miles due to gearbox issues)

While we're on the matter.... I've cut the grass (well, still cutting it - a few chops a day). These long bits I've got (12" apiece) .... is it OK to shove them on the border under a hedge? Or are you supposed to take them to the tip? Done half and half so far, but if under the hedge is legit then I'll just do that.

It's okay to put them under a hedge. They can offer a place for snails / slugs to hide, though. So, a hedge that isn't too close to a flower border.

Edit: I'd be careful about taking too much vitamin D. There are health consequences if you overdose. Taking a multivitamin is fine, but there is no reason to take more than that.

Ouch, thats low mileage for a gearbox, we do a lot of motorway, not much city and I expect 200k + out of a renault master.
Single ladies, especially of a certain age, are allowed little luxuries .... we can't do everything!

And, the definition of 'gardener' often turns out to be: Old bloke round the corner that shuffles round and does 2-3 hours once a month for £10-20.

    Correct!

    I call it post-ironic,

    She calls it "f*cking childish"

    planted more lettuce this week.
Just repotted 9 tomato plants into bigger pots.
Also moved up some of the chilli plants.
I now appear to have a major pot shortage. May need a wilko's trip this weekend as loads more needs moving up!

Desperate for dry weather to mow the lawns here too!

Edit: Does no one else use the term Darlin' Ho' to describe their other half?

I honestly knew a married guy, who when his wife arrived where-ever we were, would say "hello sh4g!" as a greeting!

In answer to the inevitable questions, yes, they're still married.

Change it before it gets to about 180k mi, and leave someone else to replace the gearbox.

A Viano 8 seater will have a better residual value. Avoid the 2012 onwards models for a year, until the teething issues have calmed down (the reason we've kept 2 of the '58' ones longer than we usually would)

They're not all bad, but this is the recommendation with any car.

Krista Siegfrids is going to be in Big Brother UK. I posted that someone from ESC this year would be a few weeks back, but couldn't post who at the time.

Also, RIP to Silvi Vrait, who died today (LiR will probably remember her)

You can just bin them. We have a special green bin for garden and kitchen waste, but a modest amount in the standard waste should be okay.
Slight problem with that. First, no green bin. Secondly, due to my speshulness I don't use the bin; I take my stuff to the tip myself about once a fortnight (one carrier bag).

The issue is that I can only cut the grass when it's dry, I remember and fancy it .... and once cut it then 'rots', and as I'd have it in this room, beside me, in a plastic bag.... that's not good/won't work. Timings are out and I don't want to sit with a bag of rotting grass cuttings here for 1-2 weeks until I next go out. Especially as they seem to breed woodlice when left outside to dry a bit before bringing them in.
