Another question for NP (possibly especially Herts NP), how does one go about finding a reliable tax advisor (specialising in domestic property)?

jimmo, on the tax saving board - particularly good for capital gains tax on homes.

thinking of PN's approach to food, which is even more ad hoc than mine, this guy, the skint foodie ( never sure what links I can put on and can't here), is a serious foodie, broke and basically given up on life to eat well -interesting priorities.

He has a funny version of skint.... he's raving about meals costing £4-5/person, that look tiny. Bearing in mind there'd be other food required each day I don't think he counts as skint.

Pink whistley brought me a mole for my supper. Moles are so cute, I hate them catching moles.

Lazy alert, I know I could just look on the Herts Library website and get answers:

Viva, if I buy DD2 a Nook will she be able to borrow books from Herts libraries on it? I think it can be 'rooted' and have a 'stock rom' installed to support 'Calibre' if that helps?

I think Nook is a supported device, but I need to refer you to the Herts website to double check I'm afraid.

I've never said on here who I work for and I could work for any one of five local authorities from here. The only thing I've said is that I don't work in the town where I live... Thankfully, many of those five are on Overdrive and I'm pretty sure it's supported. I got very excited yesterday when my kindle offered me an Overdrive app. Then the nearest library it offered me was somewhere ridiculous like Cambridge. Oh well.

Thanks Viva - I guess it is good that at a local level each county can have its own library policy but it would be useful if they all had the same policy then you would be the fount of all knowledge for all counties rather than not knowing what Herts does as your knowledge is only for an adjoining county :(

I think it is a bit more straightforward than that michaels - in that Overdrive is Overdrive and the devices that it supports are the same in this country afaik. I think Nook is on the list but I always get Nook and Kobo mixed up. Actually, I think they are probably both on the list but its best to check under the specific device name just in case. Having said that, the only thing I can think of that does cause problems is the Kindle.

I am now trying out and out bribery with DD1 to get her to read more - she is an excellent reader for her age but doesn't have the attention span to get into books (life offers so many other fun things than when I was growing up). DD2 was a bit slower to get started but now does love reading and will read in the car, walking down the street etc so DD2 is being rewarded with a Nook with it being made very clear to DD1 why she isn't being offered one yet and the steps she has to take to get one and it seems to be working already :)

Sorry, one other thing I should say is that while it would be good if they all did the same you can benefit from the differences. For example, some local authorities, such as Luton, are known for buying a good proportion of best sellers. This means that if you are looking for a particular book, the waiting list there may be shorter, but if you are looking for something more obscure then you're better off going to a different authority.

There's one library authority, in the North of England, that I'd love a library card for. Its elibrary is phenomenal and has things on that I'd love to be able to access from the comfort of my own home.

Meanwhile, I'm just very glad I don't work for this authority:

They are allegedly looking to cut from 11 libraries to one:eek:.
