Old girl definitely booked in for tomorrow. So certain that this is the time I have booked the hunt to come and collect her little body.

I think we have the timing just right. She is still comfortable and getting great joy out of meals, but some changes have occurred that make me feel that while she shows no pain response now she would within a few days. We have a sudden rush of foot growth ....not unusual in spring, but I fear this is more likely to be something more sinister and would be very painful if it happened.

Very content we have now got the timing right. Thank good ness.

If you feel that the timing is right, then it probably is; it's when you have a niggling doubt, that maybe it was wrong. It sounds as if she has had a very happy retirement with you.

Still not pleasant though and my thoughts will be with you tomorrow.

    Heheh, 'are' they?

    Seriously, thanks.

I was going to say she's been a pleasure to care for but then thought ago
It it and remembered she was a bit of a witch when she was younger:D. She's been wonderful to learn from, and we do love her. But it's time now, and I am ok with that.

    Have told her owners.

It's easy to have made the decision now. Before it wasn't. I think Bugslets is right about why. :)

    Awww :(
It's nice that you can perform this final service to her - of loving her enough to the end to make sure things are done properly and with her best interests at heart.

If you know in your heart it is time, then you are doing the kindest thing possible for her. Hugs to you both.

Many people I know would rather pay insurance and have medical care (similar to America) and have a safety net of BASIC medical care. But I suppose we are mostly young working professionals so the cost is not yet a major problem.

That's certainly not the prevailing attitude amongst the demographic I see most of (parents with kids at school). Most people I know think the NHS should be there for everything one needs, but not for everything one might want (cosmetic stuff, endless IVF etc). The idea of a health care system like the US is considered very scary and not what's wanted here at all.

Aww. Send special hugs to Old Girl from us, especially from DD.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Wonderfully well put PN - I agree entirely.

    Sympathy and hugs, LIR.
