I know you're very posh (ink pen!!), but it might be worthwhile you looking into a "washable ink" children's felt pen for doing your crosswords in bed.... if there is such a thing. Must be.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I know... but it's [a] effort fancying that.

Soup - not got a saucepan big enough at the moment.
Omelette - frying pan's in storage at the moment
Bangers/mash - got that later in the week as I bought a pack of 8 sausages
Potato salad - needs to be summery and needs other stuff with it.
Potato/spinach - hate spinach (never had it though) and no saucepan
No idea what spicy baked potatoes are .... wedges?

I did my baked spud with cheese and beans.

If using stock cubes or no stock (I.e. not making your own stock) its possible to make soup in a milk pan. I sometimes do that for me. Even more scroogelike, I use the trimmings from other veg (so for leek and potato I use the green bits I wouldn't serve as a veg at the very top and potato peelings. :o. Tastes great though.

Not sure what it is with people but .... if I say I have one saucepan, that doesn't mean I have a raft of other pans with special names :)

I have one saucepan - the same size as you'd find in a standard/cheap "set of 3".

It'd be possible - if one had leeks and a desire for soup - to make a soup for one in it ..... but I've no leeks, shops are shut ... and no desire to be making small portions of soup in a saucepan.

And, I never buy leeks.... only ever bought a packet (soup mix/already prepared) that was about 10p once.... but no desire to start buying huge leeks, chopping them up and making soup.

i can eat potato salad on its own. make it with half yogurt/half mayo (i would use creme fraiche but am avoiding a posh alert) and spring onions. then slice some toms, or any other veggies going and scoff.

and you can't hate spinach. :D it's good for you. If you buy a pack, I will send you a present :p

Spicy baked potato and eggs. slice potato, pan fry with some spices, cumin/fennel/mustard seed or a spoonful of curry paste/mix whatever and then pop a sliced tomato or half a can of chopped tomatoes. cook 5 mins, then crack 2 eggs on top. bake until eggs are cooked or slam a lid on the pan and steam the eggs to cook. If your frying pan has no lid, cover with a plate. Also can add bacon, ham etc if not feeling veggie.

I've spent the past couple of days in Manchester with a very dear friend who I have recently reconnected with. We have talked, laughed, almost cried, slept in late, and drunk A LOT of cocktails. Yesterday we left the house at 2.30pm, had our only meal of the day (with a cocktail), spent the afternoon evening walking around town and drinking more cocktails. We got back home at about 1am, ate some marmite on toast washed down with a glass of red wine, then went to bed when we couldn't keep out eyes open any more :D

welcome back :p and you know the question :D:o

Not usually a fountain pen. I do own one - it was a present from some kids I taught and has red ink in for marking. For crosswords I usually use something like this. I usually have several of them about - I like them for work - and biros are no good for use in bed because they don't work the wrong way up for more than a word or two. Felt pen would probably be no good because the crossword books are made of newsprint-type paper and felt pen would probably go through and mess up the other crossword on the other side.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I can eat potato salad on its own - I usually make it with potatoes, onions, salad cream and some mixed herbs.

But I usually eat it on its own when I've made salad stuff and had salad stuff for 2-3 days and all the other salady things have been eaten and there's just the potato salad left. But I'd not make it, alone, intending to eat it on its own.

I've never had spinach and it just doesn't appeal.

Sounds nice, except: No frying pan, no cumin, no fennel (never had that), no mustard seed (never had that), no curry paste (I've got powder).

My frying pan doesn't go in an oven and doesn't have a lid (not to mention the fact it's 12 miles away in a box in a dark storage lockup). I dislike bacon/ham so never have those in.

Err... yes you can hate things that are good for you.

I think you are presupposing that PN has cumin/fennel/mustard seed or curry paste, and a tomato hanging round in her kitchen. She might have a tin of tomatoes, but I have my doubts as to the rest of it.

PS If you want to fry small quantities, PN, it can be done in a saucepan. Just imagine it's a very small frying pan with unusually high sides, and away you go. :) I used to do that when I wanted to make omelette for one and only had a huge frying pan that was much too big.
