We're going to Kent for the weekend, so my meal plan is, "eat what I'm given" :jlostinrates wrote: »And I am not terribly imaginative with fish either.....something I really need to improve upon. If shellfish weren't still a no go area it's good weather for scallops and black pudding.
I don't think being imaginative with fish is a Good Thing, really. It's better cooked very simply, not mucked about with.lostinrates wrote: »Depends......
My mother is not english. We have other home steeped liquors as home, not so much sloe gin. Having suffered various awful home steeps ( inc sloe gin) I feel it very much can be bought rather than suffered!
Bit hard to see how sloe gin can go wrong, really? What was the problem? Too sweet? Not sweet enough?...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

Last week I managed to get my laptop and my PC to transfer files between them via the BTHub. Just spent half an hour trying to work out how I managed to achieve that .... with no joy.
Edit: Got it, finally.
WE have a switch and 2 wireless hubs running different wifi networks, it all works except for some reason the wireless printer does not support printing from one wifi netweork to the other, previously one of the PCs was a print server and it worked fine from anywhere.I think....0 -

I flymo everything. Nettles, weeds, everything.
That's what I do (only with the cheap plastic blades etc...):o
Decent couple of days forecast. Will definitely be mowing, as well as repotting the first lot of toms, of which only 6 have sprouted out of about 20 seeds (though some seeds were 2 years old I suspect). Will also plant my 4th & final (for now) batch of lettuce. Hope to goodness to get the weeding finished too (dunno where I'll put it all though, as the composters are full & I appear to have a tub of stuff waiting to go in there...It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
If anyone is interested, the Derren Brown show was awesome!
I've been to see every tour he has done. He is a top quality entertainer, as well as being exceptional at what he does. To top it all off, he's a thoroughly nice chap (met him in the street years ago after a show & he is exceptionally polite & has impeccable manners). Despite having seen a number of his shows, & having also read a few of his books, I still sit there, jaw gaping, thinking "how the f*** does he do that???"
He asks everyone not to put details into any form of media, so I won't, aside from saying that anyone who gets the opportunity to see any of his shows should do so. Jelly guarantee that you will not be disappointed.
Few days break now, then seeing Julian Clary next weekend. It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
I've generally held a theory that there is an element of balance in life, a kind of yin & yang, where a person can only have so much good stuff, and there has to be some bad stuff to give balance. In example, when I was having a really bad time with my last employer, stuff outside work (playing golf, and also playing bowls) was going really well. I couldn't put my finger on why (I did kinda wonder whether I welcomed the distraction from immense stress & immersed myself in the hobby activity, but I couldn't put a foot wrong in either).
This year seems different. Work isn't great, though not as bad as previous experiences. Haven't played golf yet this year. Have been playing bowls, and despite not playing badly, I don't appear able to buy a win at the moment. Haven't won a game in 2 seperate leagues for over a month. Can't put my finger on why.
I'm really confused. It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
Going back to the meeting pixels theme we discussed before, I'm going to play golf with some pixels I've never met from another forum next week, as I have the blessing of a day off!
In true MSE style, what should have cost £40 will only cost £7.50! Bargain! It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

Sorry you're having such a pants time, jelly. Hope things look up for you soon. Sorry I can't help you with your theory because I've never seen things that way, but I hope you get some "everything going well" time to make up for what's going on at the moment.lemonjelly wrote: »Going back to the meeting pixels theme we discussed before, I'm going to play golf with some pixels I've never met from another forum next week, as I have the blessing of a day off!

Yay! Have a wonderful time. When are you going to organise a meet up for us England-but-not-London pixels?Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
I don't have a ying / yang theory of life. Sometimes, s@@t just happens without anything to balance it out. Plus, no one promised life would be fair.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

I don't like curry. any curry.
kedgeree is easy and something you could easily make for 1 with left over ingredients.
