Has anyone else played the google animation today? It is my favourite one yet. I love the inventiveness and random homages. I don't know about anyone else but it makes me go away and look up a whole bunch of people I've never heard of.
    No.

Black and white films make me go and look up everybody that's on screen - who are they, are they dead, how/when did they die. And from there, following links to others in their life. I found one string of connected people that were dying from car crashes (back in the 1950s when stars would be drunk and in fast cars without seatbelts etc).

That Google thing - as viva mentioned it, I had a look. Clicked it, waited .... then some things were on the screen and there was a little box of icons.... and I clicked all over the place to try to work out [a] what it is what to do [c] what is supposed to happen.

Still no idea about any of that.

I still spend a large part of each day using other languages. Unfortunately, I'm equally as dreadful in 'foreign' :rotfl:

I'm pretty glad I'm a man. Wedding = suit. Pretty much any suit is ok.

And the invitation is usually pretty clear about what sort of suit, too.

I am the last person to ask about clothes but even I thought those dresses looked 'old' for you. However being a guy I wouldn't have dared say so without the ladies having already said so.

You should have dared - I'm not the sort of person who gets remotely upset about that sort of thing.

I had a very early start..left home at 4.35am to catch a train to Nottingham.
There were two bloody trains on platform Xa...and I was on one going to Stansted:mad:. Had to get off at Leicester and head to Nottingham from there....arrived in nick of time instead of early to pre-meet.

    Got home at 10pm tonight.

It was too long a day.

That sounds extremely annoying - at least you weren't late, I suppose. And that's a hell of a long day - hope today's a bit quieter!

That's a lovely picture in my mind! I had to have Little Bill put to sleep yesterday, it was the right thing to do for him and at 15, he had a good innings.

On the dress dilemma NDG, yes the first one is Ok if you are 60+, the second one I like. Is it a hat occasion? If it is, get a hat first and then worry about the dress!

Sorry to hear about Little Bill, bugslet. What sort of dog was he? Are you OK?

I think you might be right about the hat first. I clearly need to go to John Lewis and try some things on.

I've never had/worn a hat.... I've got a thing from the £1 shop, which cost £1 obviously, that's a tube of material with a draw string at one end, that can be worn round your neck, or (do the drawsting up) as a hat, like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Unisex-Soft-Fleece-Animal-Leopard-Print-Neck-Warmer-Scarf-Beanie-Hat-Snood-/160904155539 - love it, used it all the time through winter And, years ago, as a kid, I had some bobble hats knitted by mum. But never a hat.

Police officers are the greatest offenders when it comes to using long words for the sake of it - I think they must be taught how to give evidence in a silly way:

We was proceeding along City Road in an easterly direction in a marked vehicle in full uniform when we was informed via our radio system that a disturbance was in progress at the Dog and Duck public 'ouse. We therefore diverted said marked vehicle and proceeded to the public 'ouse and when we arrived the disturbance was still in progress....

    It just sounds better than:

We we're having a donut and admiring the birds when gobbo the drunk told us to look smart because there was a brawl in progress at the dog and duck. Despite taking the long way round we accidentally arrived while it was still happening. My partner took on the smaller of the two (tommo the migit) who you see in front of you today. The bigger of the two unfortunately got away. I got the barwoman's phone number so it is a happy ending.

To say 'I speak .....' could make me sound fluent & I'm far from that in any language.
I tackle the main Romance languages with varying degrees of lack of success. As I get older the problem is not so much in understanding what I hear or read as forming the correct sentences to reply by word or in writing.
Unfortunately, the same can be said for my English.

Changing subject. France is marking the 68th anniversary of the end of WW2. Meanwhile our news is all about Alex Ferguson. This must say something about either us as a nation or our media.
Le Chant des Partisans was really quite moving.

Generali, I think if I were you I'd go to my doctor and get a set of blood tests worked up. The drinking thing really does not sound right to me.

I'm a bit of a boozer too so it has me a little concerned.

I've got to go to the Docs with what I'm reasonably sure is a precancerous mole so I'll get him to do the blood test. It only costs about $20 after my Medicare rebate and even then I get to offset the $20 against tax if I spend more than $1500 in the year on medicine, which I have due to dental bills.

I needed a couple of what used to be called crowns on my teeth. The dentist pointed out to me in a very no pushy yet effective salesman way that if I wanted to make my teeth slightly whiter than was the norm for a Pom then this was the time to do it as the 'crowns' wouldn't change colour if I decided to do it later.

As 'crowns'+lightening > $1500 but 'crowns' < $1500 the additional cost of lightening my teeth was negligible after tax, about $100 for the proper done through the dentist thing. I might have got some insurance for the lightening too but I didn't bother to check the break down as it's the net number I care about really.

I'm quite pleased with the result and it means that my fatty liver disease/alcoholic liver disease/normal aging process/something else can be diagnosed at a 30% effective discount.

Anyone else surprised at Alex Ferguson stepping down? I would love Jose to go there. I may even have to start supporting the red team if he does. I have a thing about red teams.
Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

The thing is, there are a range of causes of these problems and it is dangerous to self diagnose since the tendancy is always to go for the most severe possible diagnosis.

Plus, as a rule, it is unwise to give up alcohol without speaking to your doctor first if you are a heavy drinker.

No. I've thought he was going to resign for a while, I think he would have resigned last year if he had slighly more luck. Wanted to go out on a high, and he is getting old.
