Fwiw, we don't expect to inherit. My family issues are complicated and dh's father remarried and she is a little bit younger, though not hugely, but we cannot imagine that things have been left in such a way that will benefit us.
OH inherited when his parents died - not remotely a stroke of luck, really, as OH was only 26, his brother was 19, and both his parents died in the space of 6 weeks.
When my mother was ill last year, my Dad started banging on about wills / inheritance / land etc, and I didn't want to hear any of it. I want my parents to live a very long life, spending and enjoying every penny they have....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
I come from a family where things were kept for best and it is such a burden. I then inherited things that were only used 'For Best' from my grandparents house. Useful items such as delicate, dainty 1920's lead crystal sherry glasses.
They live in a box as there is never a Best Enough occasion to use them...and we don't drink sherry.
..
I'm brutal about chucking thigs out that I neither like nor have a regular use for. When my dear mother died, the house was cleared in a month and I kept remarkably little. Now that Mr Bugs won't be coming home, I'm turfing stuff out, but feeling marginally more guilty even though he would neither understand or know what I'm doing. If it wasn't for my two hobbies, I could live in a very small space!I will always remember seeing an amazing castle for sale near Inverness in the Sunday papers when we bought our 1st micro/derelict house......same price 60k.
I then recall going through all the reasons why we couldn't live in Scotland. Not being able to relocate our work was number 1 and 2, the cold.
Only criteria for me is that my home is near the majority of my friends.I could do with some advice please, NP. About Spain. I'm a bit lost, because this is not the sort of holiday we usually take. Anybody with local knowledge, please?
Hotel - where is nice to stay? Not in town, we would like a quiet country house hotel sort of place, up in the hills possibly. How do you go about finding that in Spain?
Someone more knowledgeable will probably come along, but FWIW, when booking anything hotel wise, I just look on b00king.com and loook at the pics and read the reviews. Always worked so far! Enjoy your trip.0 -
As regards the cold, the Norwegians have a great saying "there's no bad weather just bad clothing"
Campers / walkers say that too. And it's still rubbish (-:
I think walking around hills in sleety gales is just nasty, no matter how good your kit is.
OH's idea of fun is doing just that, and camping high up in said hills, too. He likes talking about how you have to eat your food quickly, before it freezes.
I prefer central heating, duvets, etc in the winter....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

I feel somewhat the same, ( apart from the fact I recognise I cannot influence the length of their lives) and logically of course dh does ( and would rather have a mother than inheritance) BUT in practise what happens is a complicated mess of confusion, hurt and in so e people greed and avarice. A will takes out the mistrust and really does offer the people you leave behind a clearer path and less mistrust.
In a family that sounds as great as yours its probably difficult to imagine how people who love each other can also trample each other, but it does happen...not least because grief can make people fearful I think.0 -

We'd be liucky to eventually get a train system that travels faster than a square-wheeled unicycle.:eek:There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
What then really annoys me is when a woman looks at me like I'm trying to do something unspeakable (or at least untypable) to her because I looked at her. I find it quite arrogant that just because I'm looking in the direction of someone I'm perving. Half the time the thought that goes through my head is, "Who the hell are you? You're not even that good looking".
It's prolly not a popular thing to say round these parts but I said it and I feel much better for it.
Not unpopular at all.
I'm not referring to men looking, when I talk about slimeballs. I'm referring to the sort of look that takes all your clothes off, and then gets stuck between waist and neck........much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Thanks to Zag, car hire now booked. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

Make sure you don't purchase the Car Hire 'Supercover' or CDW Insurance. I'm hiring a car from Hertz at Glasgow Airport tomorrow. They want £160 for a weeks coverage  I've used insurance4carhire. £42.50 for an annual policy, also get £10 back through Topcashback.0 -

There was a lady immigration lawyer on BBC TV News this morning who was trying to help Afgan translators. Is this the sort of immigration work you get involved in NDG? Do you know her?
(OT I'm sure the unfair treatment of people like these translators who have risked their lives to help British soldiers is due to the general anti-immigrant climate that is being stoked up in this country which I personally find extremely distasteful. Similarly (genuine) foreign students who I can't see as anything other than a plus are restricted as for some reason they are treated as immigrants in the relevant statistics even though when they arrive as students they only have the right to stay whilst they are studying.)I think....0
