I'm with you on beauty treatments, I'm not religious but I do think our bodies are 'designed' to be attractive to us and they should not be 'adorned' with tattoos, piercings or cosmetic enhancements.
Over the last lots of millions of years, we have been naturally selected to be attracted to those who are healthy and fertile. For men, this merely means looking as though you've got a decent chance of staying alive for the next 20 years or so, to increase the odds you'll provide for the kid until it's grown up. For us women, this means attempting to look as though we are somewhere in the age range 16-30, which gets increasingly difficult as the years go by.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Our cherry blossom has lost nearly all it's blossom. I love the shape of this tree; it is under threat from OH who doesn't like the way one of its roots grows horizontally above grass level, spoiling the look of the lawn. DS2 claimed it got in the way of some goals.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Firstly the barrister, who was a very experienced QC, rather strangely told the tribunal exactly what he was going to ask me in his opening. Secondly, he either didn't bother reading all of his bundle or didn't realise it was double sided, because after he spent 5 minutes grandstanding and calling me an incompetent liar, I said that he should turn to the second page of the document he was cross examining me on which proved everything he was saying was completely flawed and his entire argument fell to pieces. It is pretty much the most enjoyable moment of my career to date. The only way it could have been better is if his junior had facepalmed...
Keeping a poker face is required, no matter what goes wrong. You need to keep the, "it's all as I expected" faintly world-weary look going.
My style of cross-examination is usually perfectly friendly. A lot of witnesses in an awful lot of cases are certainly not lying, and might not even be mistaken at all. But nevertheless, there might be information which needs to be elicted to help my case which isn't in the statement and wasn't given in evidence in chief.
For example, in my recent 3 month trial, I cross-examined 14 witnessses, and 12 of them were from universities or qualification awarding bodies. Not one of them was lying, or had any reason to lie. But in several cases, their records did not hold information which made it possible to say whether or not certain things had happened or not happened. So if a statement says, "we have no record of X" it's perfectly reasonable and sensible to ask what the records are, so as to show that their data doesn't help one way or another.
And the best way to do that is, by far, to be polite and thorough.
The other two witnesses were from various Home Office departments, and I wanted to put to them that Home Office records go astray / missing / get ignored / left alone, so it was a similar situation....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
We were debating at yesterday if the red bumps on my leg and elbow and on OHs arm are...flea bites.
It may be time to treat the cat. Dog already frontlined as ticks are already making their presence known.
OH calls me his insect repellent! I always get bitten and quite often require antibiotics for bites that turn nasty.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Weirdly, every single time I have been through golders green, even on the bus without getting off. I get a really nasty bite or a less bad series of them. I think it's some racist anti mixed marriage bug.0 -

I know the answer to this one - about 150k - less if you are a builder.
Our builders did a house in High Wycombe which will be on Homes Under The Hammer on Wednesday.
The 3 bed semi they did on our road which cost 355 and then about 70 to extend sold for 560, also 'our' builders. I am fairly convinced people will pay 100k more for a house done 'to move into' than for a house which would cost 50k to get to the same state.
.
Really? Only £150k?
The house that sold recently for £1.2m was bought for 440k a few years ago. Then it was a dilapidated 3 bed detached on a good plot. Now it is 5 bed, 3 bathrooms, done to high standard, trendy bi folding doors etc and sold at 1.2m. The people lived in it for about 18 months to avoid CGT.
If it cost double your estimate, that is still a lot of profit in there.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
