Another Kindle fan here, on my third now. Started with the DX which looks like something that went into the Ark. The only time I've been ahead on the technological curve.

An American friend swears by her Nook over Kindle. I think you just have to try and get a look at them and see what floats your boat the most.

I'm not competitive about unimportant things, like draughts etc, but terribly competitive when it comes to work. Opposition doing well puts me in a foul mood for days!

Is it 'zero sum' in that the oppostion doing well means you are doing badly? Otherwise why does it matter, as long as you have enough business isn't that ok?
    I think....

Dropped in on the planning dept this AM. IN their free consultaiton session the closest they came to a commitment was that 'it breaks a couple of 'rules' but none that are definitely a show-stopper' - about as useful as a chocolate teapot :( And the answer of course was to use their £250 paid for service to have an assessment of whether it might be possible.....

We are in a very, very niche market and if the opposition are gaining contarcts, it's contracts we don't have. There's been quite a sea change in our little world and we've had to collectively drag ourselves into the 21st century. Where once, service was king, now it's far more to do with perception and if it looks as if business is going well, it encourages other customers to use the service. Lot of style over substance, ho hum.

And after paying £250.00...the answer could still be a definite maybe? Or a definite yes or no?

It annoys me that public paid servants put so many barriers int he way of people just trying to find out answers.

If you were a developer, with the empty plot .... I'm sure planning would require that you squeeze 12 homes out of that space these days :)

I've seen a hideous new way of developing.... people seem to be taking 1930s detached houses (the sort with just a side gate/narrow driveway up one side.... then splitting them into two halves: one front, one back. Then they sell two semi-detached houses, one that's only at the front and one only at the back. Thing is, they just seem "not right".

I like to be right at work in these sorts of arguments because I flipping well know what I'm doing. I'm an expert in doing not in managing and if someone wants to argue the toss with me I'll only get in the argument because they are wrong.

One thing I learned from working at Goldman Sachs is that the most important thing is that we're all in the boat, rowing in the right direction. If someone knows a better direction to row then it doesn't matter if they're the skipper or the cabin boy. Give a good argument as to why it'll lead to the best outcome and you'll be given a fair hearing and we may well end up changing course.

The plans wouldn't suit you PN, as although there is a utility there is no garage...that and a 500k price tag for a 3 bed.

Proper can of worms if memory serves me correctly!;)
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.
