OH won't play chess with me, either. It annoyed him to lose all the time. So we play games such as scrabble and backgammon, where were're about even, or badminton, where he wins all the times.
We never play games like this at home. Maybe we will in the future, I just don't know when there would be time to.0 -

I made is a quilted cover in case I drop it, though.0 -
Good point, PN. I'll try not to hurl it down too many flights of stairs....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

I've decided to get an e reader. Thoughts?
I'd like to borrow books from the local library on it. Robustness is good as is long battery life.
We've got Anzac Day tomorrow, a public holiday. Sadly it's just a p up for most these days. It's the one day a year when you can gamble on a game call two up in pubs.

We play draughts all the time. Me and the kids, OH is clueless and always loses, so now refuses to play.
I guess this could be a NP quiz - do you need to win at games/past times (or indeed anything else in life)? DW won't play many games, any thing she is not certain she will win at. Whereas I really don't care, winning is a minor plus, the reason for playing is if the time spent playing is enjoyable and I would much rather lose but that everyone enjoys the taking part than win and upset anyone.
I used to play lots of tennis but again playing well and playing good shots was always much more important than grinding out a victory. I played a bit of chess when younger, the school tried to press me in to playing tounaments but I resisted for 2 reasons, firstly it was never going to help me score with the girls I was interested in and secondly I found the level of concentration and sheer 'thought' required did one's head in.I'm now about 40 miles from the measles centre of the UK. So only occasional Internet.
Wow - I hadn't realised it was so serrious that the basic infrastructure was breaking down...
One thing I can't understand is how come the outbreak has remained so localised, with the amount of travel these days I would have thought that it would have spread rapidly and pockets started up in many areas where immunization take up had been low.I think....0 -

We do a bit of ludo type games but the internet, wii and the garden are pretty strong competition to traditional games. DDs are probably big enough now for chess/monopoly but DS isn't and would probably disrupt any attempt for the rest of us to play.I think....0 -
I can't play chess or anything else....but the boys can.
My brother was a master at Monopoly and that put me off for life but I was rather good at Trivial pursuit because of my weird and wonderful collection of facts stored in my brain. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

I've dropped my Kindle a few times, and it's survived, but I am careful to keep it clear of stairs. I think that even one hurling down the stairs would do for it, but I am happy for NDG to experiment and report back.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

Macputer mark one was ok being dropped and walked on by cats. Being dropped against heavy things...table legs, piles of ironmongery, stuff like that, was really its undoing. Macputer the second wears a bought protective cover (which is a pita).0 -

android tablet (no 1 and only so far) survived falling most of the way down the carpeted stairs on to the tiled floor but only because it has a leather case that DW insisted on even though I saw it as a waste of money (£10 case for a £50 tablet) and which I think ruins the aesthetics of it. Still it turns out she is right, a screen split in to splinters would be a lot less aesthetic.I think....0
