Is 98% 2 standard deviations from 100%? I can't even remember if it works like that. I've forgotten so much statistics; it's really depressing
As you more or less say, it was almost certainly a 5% or 10% confidence interval quoted entirely out of context. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

I need help!
Can anyone come up with birthday present ideas? The person involved will be 43, doesn't like girly things like handbags or shoes, loves books but is very choosy which ones and is not at all materialistic.
Yep, my birthday next week and everyone keeps asking me what I want...beggered if I know!
Nice toiletries? The most un-girly of 43 year old women still enjoy a nice bubble bath, or some posh shampoo?...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Our DKs expect an internet device each so unless we splash out on getting them all tablets/laptops I can't see us having 3PCs in the kitchen/family room.
Blimey, I'd tell DKs they can get what they're given (-:Good suggestion but I am not a garden person. My family have given up giving me plants as I have a nasty habit of killing them (the plants, not my family!). Sister even gave me what she called an unkillable plant....it was dead within a month.
Glad to hear it is the plants, not the family - killing someone for giving you a nice plant would be a touch excessive....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

I've managed to live in London since the late 1970s, without ever having been mugged or kidnapped or assaulted....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
I am in a foul mood. I took an honest look at my own weight since Generali mentioned his, and concluded that I am at least half a stone and probably 3/4 stone heavier than I should be. My problem is that I like eating. It's fun.
So I'm now on a diet, and that puts me in a grump, a mega-grump at that, too.
It makes it harder that I live with two of the male of the species who both eat enough for a small army, each, and are slim with it!...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

My theory is good bath stuff is medicinal and not in the least girly. Warm water to sooth muscles, and good scents to ease the mind.
Absolutely nothing self indulgent about that.0 -
I am actually slightly hyperventilating about stats now. Always disliked stats. Cannot even remember the teminolgy..'.likelihood?' And I cannot remember where the important percentages are...95 and 98%?
I should go and refresh my memory I suppose...but it just doesn't matter any more. Sigh. I need a bath now.0 -

All you need to know is that 83.6% of statistics are made up.
99.2% guaranteed0 -
