My resident Japanese expert, DS3, says there is no specific Japanese equivalent to 'crikey' but they do have many words to express surprise/shock.
We both understood the discworld analogy - I have got something right as a parent (he blames me for all his woes because daddy was never there). My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage0 -
:TBathroom cupboard de-cluttered & sorted today0

Oh dear - Heaven only knows what could be appearing, possibly even breeding, in the cupboards I can't get to to sort out!
Small triumph - I have managed to smuggle OH's old duvet out. It was one of those cheap & cheerful ones, bought just over a year ago, that have a "non-woven" cover, which had worn clear away in places & shredded & pilled horribly in the course of a year. He liked that one (15tog) and couldn't seem to accept that trying to wash it would have doomed my beloved washing machine; there was nothing left to hold the wadding together & it would just have completely fallen apart. Anyway, I managed to acquire a kingsize Baavet from another MSEer who didn't get along with it, which he's accepted without too much squawking, although it's not quite as warm, apparently. I think, actually, it's not quite as thick or heavy; he's not complained of cold AT ALL these last few days, even though our bedroom is unheated.
So, the old one has been sat stuffed into a bag in a corner of our bedroom, for about 4 months. At first he wasn't sure whether he was going to like the Baavet, but if he hasn't asked for the old one back by now, he's not going to. And he was muttering about clutter at the weekend... so off into the Bulky Waste skip it went today.
Also, the Freecycler I offered the yarn to has accepted, so a couple of big bags of unsaleable part-balls & unpicking will be going off with her in the next couple of days. And I have a Plan for moving on the rest of the clutter in the conservatory; much of it is absolutely important, and shouldn't just be lying in a heap on the floor, and now I've worked out how to consolidate something else in order to give it a proper place to go to.
I've even done my tax return. I don't earn enough to worry much, but it was a chastening experience because my receipts from Dec '13 had gone missing, and my my paperwork has got into too much of a muddle to find them. So I couldn't offset anything against my earnings except the rents for my stalls, for which I have e-receipts. Nothing more than a nuisance, luckily, but it shows I need to re-think my "system" and make it clearer & easier to store & use.Angie - GC Aug25: £207.73/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -

I wonder how they translate Steve Irwin....
Thriftwizard, as regards keeping receipts more organised, not sure if the HMRC is the same as over here, but over here they'll accept scanned receipts if you need to prove anything. Scanning was a revelation to us paperwork wise, we spent a week scanning every piece of important paperwork we have, then shredding the paper copy. As long as you back up your storage, it's a neat and convenient way to do it. There's very little you need to actually have a paper copy of.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
:rotfl: A lightweight indeed!
I was going to suggest the shoelaces and sake cups had accidentally snuck* in from a parallel universe.....
*I know it's American English, but I rather like "snuck"I like 'snuck', too. I also like 'gotten' which I vaguely recall reading somewhere is actually grammatically correct as the past tense, but not English English usage.
The linguistic drft between English English and American English is frequently amusing to me ( I read a lot of American novels). Such as when a former supervisor on a temp job I had as a student who asked me where I was at 'school'. Baffled, I told her I'd left school and was at university. She was an American. Took us about three go-rounds to straighten that one out.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I've been sitting here quite smug about how I don't have any clutter anymore but just gave the house a sweep round and....
anyhoo....
I've found three old pairs of glasses - taken to a charity bin at an opticians
a complete set of single bedding - CS
a scarf and hat set for an 8 - 12 year old child - CS
5 unopened bottles of perfume that I'll never get around to this year - CS
a bag of oats and a bottle of Mexican style chili sauce - food bank box in local supermarket
and I'm going to post my brother's "bed buddy" compression bag back to him so that he can fit his inflatable bed into his car again.
That was brought up here about four years ago.
I'm sure I'll find a few more bits before the month is out.....:o
Not feeling so smug now. Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -
Gingernutty, I think smugness was the route of my downfall too. I thought I'd done rather a lot, then opened the fridge  Though nothing is out of date, I don't think any household needs as many pickles and condiments as we currently have. They need using up, just not sure how best to do so.
Add that to the pantry items that need using up before we move and there could be some very interesting meals ahead indeed :rotfl:Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -

This is definitely correct0
