Hoarding - Springing Ahead

Broken dog guard went off to a friend for recycling, bottles and glasses went to bottle bank and I have filled my boot with stuff to go to the tip tomorrow. That may mean that there are now spiders in my car (stuff was in a shed), but I'm trying not to think about that...."Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful." Siegemode.....
I know you from other threads, so 'stocking up' is on your agenda and so is being prepared for lots of eventualities.....
The other thread i'm talking about isn't great news if you have major hoarding tendancies......but in that context....is also sensible.
It is about finding a balance, now you know you have a problem with it you can start working it out.
What I will say is, that it will probably always be with you, so embrace what you are, ditch what causes the problems as and when you can, and allow yourself to do the sensible stuff in time once the rubbish has cleared.
I have just had a side fence re-done.......and have secretly kept some old planks of wood.....'just in case' they are useful at some point........some of it may well be, but what I did was go back out, look at it....and half the pile I have kept.
You will get there in the end.
PS.....sorry if I have the wrong person.....but I was counting my loo rolls this morning thinking ruddy hell I haven't got enough compared to you!!!......lol.
Don't beat yourself up about it, just take baby steps to change what you need to is what I found works.x
Yes you're right my need to be prepared for whatever life throws at us is adding to the problem and finding a balance is important but easier said than done I guess. Coming on here has already helped though.
Could the wood come in handy as fuel or am I adding un needed encouragement. As for the loo rolls, I'm not sure why I feel the need for so many. I hate paying full price and we only like a certain brand and for some inexplicable reason having a good stock is as comforting as having almost 3kg of cheese in the fridge. I love purple.

They are a bit faded now and have really funky rainbow laces that I added. I past the shop every day for several months as I saved the £50 to buy them. It was a horrendous amount to me at the time as I was a trainee and struggling with living costs and rent etc. At the time it was equal to a weeks pay:eek: , but I just fell in love with them and admired them until I could wear them with such pride and a real sense of achievement. I have now added them to the chazzer bag but feel sad as they have bought back lots of memories. It's weird, feel like I am discarding an old friend.
So having returned from the wardrobe I discovered I had more than I realised. !0 pairs of assorted footwear read bagged for the chazzer and 4 pairs of boots to the dump. 30 pairs of boots, flip flops and sandles kept.
Feeling ok ish, have decided to thin out my scarf hats and gloves tomorrow. OH is pleased and suggested I was being remotely operated by you lot. :rotfl:Didn't get as far as Narnia this time but who knows if I keep doing a little here and there:)
Thanks for all the support and encouragement.0 -
Well done SiegeMode,
Shoes are so difficult to get rid of.
As I am overweight, I tend to buy accessories more than clothes. I LOVE shoes but realised that just because I loved them didn't mean that I had to buy them. Wow that was a light bulb moment. I could try them on. Enjoy them for that moment and then put them back. If I wanted, I could even carry them around the shop (if supermarket shopping) and then put them back.
I moved on to the carrying stuff around the shop and then putting it back with lots of stuff. I felt that if I REALLY needed it I could get it. By the time that I finish shopping I have usually decided I don't want it. Well most stuff:o.
Another light bulb moment was when I tidied my shoe hoard and found that the purple crocodile-ish boots that I loved but hardly wore had cracked and needed to be binned. So if you love it wear it, use it, have it on show. If you don't love it, need it or use it WHY do you keep it?
I too have had that deep emotional situation to resolve. I think most of the lovely ladies on here do to some level - that is why we are here.
Anyway, SiegeMode well done. You have started. You stood up and admitted your difficulties and did something about it. Again well done you. Hugs for the times when it all becomes too much but keep coming back and you will get there. I have been reading this thread since before we were Springing Ahead and only now feel as though I am getting somewhere.De cluttering Konvert.Getting there

Yippee! Finally found an almost-dead pen, now firmly binned. The pen situation isn't as bad as I'd feared; I think I do tend to bin them instantly when I find they've dried up.
Blankets & two big bags of my surplus clothing are now safely in my neighbour's house, to be distributed tomorrow evening. I've promised her some more, too; we are now halfway through the Great Schemozzle of moving the bedrooms round, so I can Get On as soon as I get back from visiting The Elderlies tomorrow. There's an IKEA bag full of unclaimed clean clothes that would be better out of here. Anyone squawking that they've lost stuff can feel virtuous that it's gone to help people far worse off than themselves...
I'm now trying to talk DD2 into helping my do a car boot on Wednesday... not getting very far, so I may just have to do it by myself!Angie - GC Aug25: £374.16/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
Yes you're right my need to be prepared for whatever life throws at us is adding to the problem
I learnt to recognise that actually, in a country like England, which we are very lucky to be in, I am resourceful enough to deal with things as they crop up. It seems strange but the more I have given away for other people - when I have no longer needed it / I am not talking about depriving the family - the more I have got what I needed at the time I have needed it. It is partly down to having the time and space to make good decisions.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
I kept reading purple kickers as knickers and wondering how we moved from shoes to underwear... I had so many shoes, and I never wore them. I put on weight and my feet got swollen. I managed to turf out a lot (it helped that so many were years old and kinds that I wouldn't wear now) and now have maybe 15 pairs. I've lost the weight and could wear them, but my feet are rather boring and every couple of years I get a pair of black trainers with inserts that I wear everywhere - work, going out, at home. So why do I still have coloured trainers/plimpsols, thongs with flowers and things on them etc? On other news we made it to the car boot sale yesterday - we got rained out early but made $100. Not bad for 3-4 hours work. Plus got $50 from gumtree later in the day. Also counted that between that and a clearing session we got rid of 100 items. A pretty good weekend, I'd say.0

Excellent stuff going on in various households although I'm amazed at pigpen's calmness in the face of a sluggy and snaily infestation of her car. I would have been having hysterics, and not in a good way - eww!
Today both the floor and the sofa are clear; feels a bit straaange and unnatural but in a good way. Going to work and won't be energy to do much afterwards, but I might dip my toe into a project which has been sticking for a couple of weeks; it's got a tedious stage which will be boring, so I may just do 2-3 items at a time to plug on past this bit.
Keep on with the good work, my lovelies, and remember to stop and smell the roses. Oh, and the pal really liked the sunflower delivery, total surprise. I should do random stuff more often, it's fun.:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

only small steps here, I will meet the freind tomorrow who I am keeping the music section of our newspaper for, so one bag that's kicking around will leave the house.
I was reading the discussion with interest, Siegemode. I think I inherited the post-war "gene" from my gran who could cook a meal out of nothing and who did not throw anything away that was USEFUL for anything. I really hate the "throwaway-society" , be it with clothes or appliances that just don't have the look. I know it's a fine line to hoarding that sometimes is hard to seeWe don't have much money and live quite isolated. The thought of throwing something away which I then have to buy again because I was hasty is not comforting! So I'm constantly looking at "stuff" but ask my self - is it junk or useful? That really helps.

I found a slug that I'd clearly strimmed yesterday GQ, and thought of you0
