My Mum is wearing her holier than thou smile from above 'cos her mantra was always 'dont put it down - put it away! Hmmmm still not completely sunk in with me lol
Tell her to say hello to Grandma, from me.
Some of Grandma's gems:
Lazy people take the most pains.
Cross that bridge when you come to it.
It's later than you think (she wrote this on Mum's 21st birthday card)
And last but by no means least;
There's a trick to everything except basketry - that you can see through.
She was a character all right.:rotfl:
I have been busy cooking and have put all food products away and washed all the dishes. I have not yet laundered the angora-blend cardi but I am fall-on-my-face tired and will save that for tomorrow. About which Grandma had yet another saying;
Tomorrow is another day - if we're spared.
G'night, lovely peeps, let's reconvene on a Weds and declutter something else. GQ xxEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

hello m'lovlies:
bins out, random DIY gubbins removed (e.g. silicone sealant that had solidified, paint brush beyond de-paintifying). Rubble to go to tip tomorrow (have finished patch 2 of the hall floor and am now excavating patch 3).
loads of end-of-term school stuff as incomers, but will go through that and the kids clothes/belongings for too small/broken/contenders for charity shops (they have to sanction the latter category) if they both go away to paternal grandparents tomorrow.
As I've got slightly more on control of my finances again, I'm feeling slightly more able to let stuff leave (or kick it out of the door protesting loudly), so that's a good sign. Thank you all for keeping on and inspiring me during a lull in personal activity:AA/give up smoking (done)0 -
Watered neighbours garden for them last night while they are away on holiday. Decluttered some of their tomatoes & runner beans! (I have permission
) Sorted out my boot of all the bags & boating stuff - pair of waterproof trousers going on freecycle 'cos they're about 6 inches too short for me!
I had 2 ins yesterday of 2 tshirts from M&Co but they were bought with some birthday vouchers. I WILL sort out some old ones for the ragbag for DH - trying to get more out than in IYKWIM
Hope everyone has a good day todaySmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
I havn't posted here properly for a while but I have been lurking.
Progress is slow here but I've reconciled myself to the fact that we live in a small house with insufficient storage, which is a frustrating realisation. There's only so much I can do about that. I'm hoping to sell up by the end of the year.
What's important with hoarding is the mentality - generally I don't feel the need to stockpile things (although I did buy 4 tops the other day as a lot of my clothes are so old they need replacing) as I'm focusing on getting the house looking nice for when it comes to selling it. It's helped me keep focus.
I have no worries about sending things to charity now instead of trying to sell any bit of tat on eBay - that's a big step. Husband would say there isn't an improvement (but when he doesn't lift a finger he an hardly be the judge) but to me there's a world of difference.
Sounds like people are doing well, which is great to see. Keep it up!"Why, this is hell, nor am I out of it."0 -
well done flossyann re the cards. I confess I only got rid of SOME of my stash, about 50% left to do another time. I am keeping a selection of cards, some are the childrens so am keeping say special cards for 1st and 5th birthday and recycling the rest.
I have found that once I get a specific type of clutter sorted, I am motivated to keep it under control. Newspapers and mail in this category. Toiletries - many are in the "keep one only in store" category, the rest I am using up until the same applies. I use far less now anyway - previous items no longer used include self tan (staying pale and interesting now), hair dye (slow slide into silver fox) and repeat. Gift stash down to a handful of items.
I have a lot of old diaries hoarded away- not the Dear Diary sort - the dental appointment at 3pm sort - and struggling to part with. Watch this space....
happy decluttering folks.... to quote my least favourite store.... every little helps!

re the need to stockpile, I realise mine is partly related to feeling insecure. I would panic previously if I didn't have plenty of food, toiletries etc in. For the first time ever I have NO CHOCOLATE in the house. I do feel slightly edgy but if its in the house, I eat it until its gone. I am overweight and addicted to sugar, drastic measures needed. If I am really in need.... walk to the local shop. SQ:)0

I'm ploughing on in the study today as I'm in a 'can't be bothered to do much' mood. Half filled another bag of paper for recycling. The back to school pile looks like it will struggle to fill a bag for life, which I'm pretty pleased with on two counts. For starters, it is less to work through when I go in to organise my classroom for September, and secondly it means that previous declutters have been a success. Little and often really is the way forward.
OH feeling a bit more energetic than I am. He is currently loading the car with junk from the basement to do a run to the tip. We'll be on first name terms with the staff there at this rate!know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
Apologies in advance for the long thread but I have visited the tip first thing and then spent a further 2 hrs in the cellar from hell clearing some stuff out. I thought I would list it so I can see what a state it had got into.
Out for the tat man
Broken oil filled radiator
Stands for mannequins
Sent to the tip
2 x shelves
2 x coffee tables
2 x CD racks
Old baby car seat
Broken computer table
Kitchen worktop cutoff
Wall candle sconces
Twisted curtain rail
Broken bucket
Mannequins
Broken toaster
Old sewing chest with woodworm
In front of the house a give away item
Step machine -Used 3 times in 20 years. And I wonder why I'm fat.
Pile for next tip visit - tomorrow
More mannequins
DVD & CD players -Both broken
Bits of old wood
A bin bag of hangers
Rusty broken skirting heater
Old broken desk
Massive wooden coffee table top
Various bits of garden rubbish
A computer keyboard
3 bin bags rubbish
Very rusty electric heater
Aerial
Printer
14 trillion carrier bags.
Now I feel proud and ashamed at the same time. I would like to say that the cellar is finished but alas no. I have 4 CPU's to get rid of, an old wall cupboard and other stuff. When this is done I can start clearing the cellar steps and arranging the stuff so it's usable and accessible.
Going for a bath no as I'm feeling very grubby.
Apologies for waffling.
