i will have to look for a give the soda crystals a go, but everything else i have used witch is sposed to unblock drains dont give me the results that mixture does. and ive spent a fortune in the past trying to find something that would work and nothing ever does its still slow to drain out sometimes might be fine on the day i have done it but the next its back to being slow, even had the council out thinking drains are blocked and they never are. but like i said hold my breath and run out the bathroom when i do it, cos i will say it can be rather pungent. then a quick swill with boiling water gets rid of it.

at least im not as bad as my dad, who decided to check for a gas leak with blow torch :undecided

As you say Anirtak - the drains may have a small bore or not a very good downward angle when they leave your house so anything runs very slowly and blocks really easily. Do you have 'hair traps' in your plug holes - that can help as hair is notorious for blocking drains up.
I'd use hot water & soda every couple of days as its so much safer. We don't want you on the front page of the newspaper for all the wrong reasons!!!

hair traps? just got normal plug holes with the criss cross that the plug sits on, usually need to clear that once a month in the bath, unless ive let my hair grow and need to clear it everytime i wash it then.
bath never seems too bad at draining, but the sink in bathroom drainage is slow and the sink in the kitchen was before the council had the plumbing redone when they changed the kitchen, has seemed fine for last couple of months.

    Found my mojo today .
Just as well, because I am back to work tomorrow.

So,today I tidied, dusted, polished, vacuumed the front room, dining room, front entrance hallway. Also cleaned kitchen top to bottom.Even the carp corner is clear at the moment- about a month ago I mentioned that 7yo daughter was using that corner for butterfly hatching and rock tumbling/polishing.Well,the butterflies all hatched and were released a couple of weekends ago,the infernal rock tumbler http://www.trendsuk.co.uk/product-range/rock-tumbler-sm10 has remained. This is the same carp corner that I cleared when first joined this thread:I found a filing system for papers in a kitchen drawer, which was supposed to keep this corner clear. It was clear for about 18 hours before being filled with projects icon_rolleyes.gif.Haven't seen it since .
So,today I packed up the tumbler (still needs 4 more hours use before she finally has some polished gems, but she can get it out when it is about to be used),and the 8 tea-towels and one mans' jumper that was covering it to muffle the noise :rotfl:.

Then I went upstairs and tidied, vacuuumed 3 bedrooms (no polishing),and cleaned toilet.Vacuumed upstairs corridor and the stairs.

All the while I washed 2 loads of clothes, put away most of them.

I forgot to mention yesterday that one thing I did do yesterday was finally put out for recycling that bundle of "12" newspapers (kept finding more hidden in cupboards around the house) that I had been perusing.I threw out all the newspapers and chat-tat mags that I used to read when on hols (now my kids are old enough to entertain themselves for a while,I have graduated to having the time to read proper books!).I am glad I at least looked at the dates before throwing, because I found the bundle of newspapers (a copy of every different paper we could buy) we bought on the day our youngest was born, and a couple of copies of the local paper which should include my son's school photo when he started Reception. The 3 different Reception classes' photos are there, but I can't recognise my son amonst them...............

So,if before I go to bed tonight,if I sort out the bundle of paperwork that has grown next to my spot on the sofa, and iron all the newly-washed school uniforms,I will feel just-about caught-up (didn't get around to cleaning whole bathroom).
    Probably not gonna happen.........:o

can you collect songs just for the sake of collecting??
been going through some old disks i put together years ago to see whats on them before recycling, take off what i want to put on mp3,
ive got some of the songs over again a few times, and osme songs i got quite a few times sung by different people.
and other songs i have no idea why i got the cos i didnt think i liked them when they first come out.
and i knew i had a wide variety of likes where music is concerned, but i dont think i realised how wide they went. i jump formt he likes of country music like garth brookes, kenny rogers etc, to music like status quo, ozzy osbourne, queen, meat loaf, sometiems on the same disc.
and some of the choices i like go right back to the 60's 70's and 80's
so especially as i got some songs doubled/trippled/quadruppled etc is it possible to just collect songs for the sake of it. and especially when im saying why have i got that one, i didnt like it when it first came out. or it was one of those annoying songs that came out that was so annoying you couldnt help but like. or you hear it being played so often on the radio etc you start to like it.
and if any one asks i will not admit to likeing some of those songs lol.
i think i may have just managed to cut 12 discs down to about 8 with all the doubles ive left behind.
never saw the point in buying discs cos most of the time they would be 3 discs with about 60 songs on and i would be lucky to like 20 of them, so got music in different ways. i have obviously forgotten what i had allready had before getting it again, i think i should start going through others aswell but its a bit late now tonight. got to be up in couple of hours, so probably gonna have another day with little energy.

Got two loads of washing done, so that's good.

Keep hearing about soda crystals. If I want to use on my bathroom sink which is slow to clear and very yucky - do I just pour some (amount?) down drain and then hot water or is there some method.

Are there any hazards I need to be aware of - inhaling, eyes, etc.?

Sorry to sound stupid, but if I'm not sure of something, I let it wait.

    Its time this was tackled.

    Thanks.
:) Another raving fan of soda crystals. They're a form of salt and not toxic but because they are a powerful degreasant, you probably ought to glove your hands if plunging them into a sink full of soda crystal water.

I keep my soda crystals in re-purposed 4 pint plastic milk bottles. This stops them from clumping and makes them easier to pour, and it there were ever to be an undersink water leak, would protect them. I pour a good slug of crystals down and then a kettle-ful of boiling water. Because mine are done regularly, that's normally sufficient, but if it's been slow-running for a while, more goes could help.

There are no fumes from soda crystals. They're excellent for really grotty cleaning jobs where things are horrendously greasy, including cooking pots and roasting tins. I always have them in the home and regard them as the 'big guns' of the armoury.

No time for decluttering yesterday as out at 8.30, back briefly after work, out again for archery, visited with a pal on way home, then back home about 12 hours after originally leaving, then collapse and beddy-byes.

Have a few things floating about, and the kitchen needs a good seeing-to, but will aim to catch up this evening and establish order.

The item I was going to return to my pal wasn't with me as had gone straight from archery, but I discussed it and she decided doesn't want it back and I can donate it to c.s. We also discussed Stuff; pal has a lot, not trash, but reflective of her many interests. She is also 2.5 months into a domestic catastrophe which is not yet quite resolved, and this was mucho complicated by the Stuff. Which she's now feeling more ambivalent towards and may want to thin out...........

:o I have also binned a pair of religious knicks this week. Or will after I've washed them.:rotfl:

VJsmum the tumbler was on 7yo daughter's Christmas list.We read the instructions for it on Boxing Day.This is when we realised how noisy it was going to be.The busy-ness of Christmas meant we didn't get around to setting it up,we all went back to school and work in January. It was April school holidays we finally got around to setting it up .Is only meant to be a 2-week process, but at the end of each stage we turned it off for a few days,or if we were having visitors,or kids had sleepovers for their birthday, etc,it also got turned off.At the moment, gems only need another 4 hours of [STRIKE]grinding[/STRIKE] polishing (2 x 2 sessions),so hopefully that will be all over just in time for the school hols next week. Then she can start making jewellery from them.So I am pleased it has bought her such joy-just wish she could have joy without cluttering up my kitchen benches :rotfl:.

    Nothing to report today.
