I put a mixture of salt, bicarb and cream of tartar down all the plug holes and overflows, and follow it with a kettle full of hot water. I try to do it regularly, but don't...

When I moved here, most of the plugholes were clogged with gunk (I have a special brush now for cleaning them as they were really really grim), and the bathroom basin was particularly slow to drain. It took a lot of work to clear.

I try to make sure that all the sinks/basins and bath are filled up completely every so often rather than just running water down them. That way the pressure of the water helps keep them clear.

In the utility room, I run the DW & WM at the same time and try to get them to drain at the same time as I empty the sink to make sure anything nasty isn't just getting moved around in the trap.

Used up two half empty pots of jam on a birthday cake yesterday. DD did most of the cake so it wasn't picture perfect (2 halves were completely different sizes but she wouldn't let me help). It was made with love. She also pinched bits from around the edge to eat so we had to put a ribbon on it.

Went to recycling so the cupboard is clear for the bank holiday. Grotty weather, I was hoping we'd have a day out.

Made some vegetable tarts but I adapted a recipe and then burnt them slightly. We are supposed to be having one for tea but it doesn't look great.

Bought myself a new skirt yesterday and got a lovely paper bag to carry it home in - that will be good for a family birthday present in a few weeks.

Raining in heavy bursts here today so hitting indoors. DH has hoovered the stairs and done the ironing - that's him finished for the day now haha! He's gone in the garage to play with his trike & escape me in case I find him something else to do. :)
Hoovered & dusted upstairs & washed the bathroom floors - decluttered a thingy to hang jewellery on and an indoor TV arial to go to CS. Put the old virgin box at the top of the wardrobe (just in case?)
Decluttered some floor wipes that had dried out (didn't use them 'cos
they streaked) & finished a packet of wet wipes & some spray cleaner
re-purposed the spray bottle to use with some diluted washing liquid to spot clean. I've put the pile of clothes away in the bedroom & now I'm going to reward myself with a cuppa!

    afternoon all,
gq we have never had a problem with the wc flushing it seems tohave a pretty strong flush on it, not had problems with the bath draining either, it is literally just the sinks. (oh wc is seperate to the bathroom)but the kitchen sink has been fine in the last couple of months since the plumbing was done so out main problem now is the bathroom sink.

i knew we would probbaly be sharing somehthng but have just always hoped we dont share the usage as im on a water meter.

maybe the previous tenant could have done something to the sinks, the place was terrible when i moved in and had an inch of grease to clean out of the kitchen, off the tops and from inside the cupboards , took me over 4 weeks to get it satisfactory. and i refused to use the kitchen until it wad done, i may like to collect things but i will not cook in a dirty kitchen.

well i found my mojo in a bottle of cider last night (2 in a month thats strange for me)(hang on i think im making it sound like they big bottles, they are bottles of cidre not the big 2 litre bottles) but i have now finished the painting in the bedroom. now i just need to wait for the carpet to be delivered and fitted so i can move the furniture into there. maybe while im waiting i will start sorting out the stuff in the cupboards that are to be moved and pack them up ready. just gotta find some boxes to pack them into, and bags that i may fill to take to cs. im sure theres bound to be something there i can possibly get rid of. i know i have sheets and towels etc in those vacuum bags in the draws under the bed.
i doubt i will get rid of any of my books as even tho i have a kindle, i dont have those books on it, and i like to pick up a book now and then, and i usually read most of my books about every 18 months to 2 years.
dont know if i can sort through my teddies yet tho, will see when im moving them. and the same with clothes, i know theres more i can get rid of as my wardrobe is still overflowing, its just weather i can or not. some things i keep cos i know they are comfy to wear, but some of them i will be honest i have no idea when was the last time i wore them.

well that was fun, i think, had to go fishing in the tank, hubby finally found someone experienced to have the cichlids and we have transferred the community tank over, he was having trouble catching them, so i had to do it. and they look just as good in the big tank as we thought they would. we just need a few more to go in there now cos it looks a little empty compared to what the smaller tank looked with them in, i think we have another plec coming tomorrow. so our little one will have some help.

well i better finish off my cuppa, and possibly look for something to do. feeling slightly better within myself now i have finished the painting, plus im fed up of looking at the mess that seems to be laying around that im either trying to sell or decide weather its going or not.

:j I've done the second curtain! It's up and looking very good.

Only just over a week on one curtain from one pair and one from another. This is the pair of curtains bought at a bootsale on Easter Monday, which were washed twice to shrink them, disassembled and re-assembled.

Happiness. And I have decided to scrap the offcuts rather than hoard them and scrap them at some other time. That's a big leap forward for me.

Righty, better tidy up, and run the iron over a few items of clothing before putting all my toys away.

    :D I feel very happy.

Well done GQ - doesn't it give you a lovely sense of satisfaction :) I've often found that the job I have procrastinated about has taken me less time to do than putting it off IFYKWIM. Good on you too for not keeping the offcuts.
I've also managed to get 6 bags of rubble to the tip & returned with 3 bags of chicken manure for the garden - good swap ;)

    :) Still enjoying my curtains.

I have two library books and one library rental DVD to go back tomorrow morning, so will do that first thing.

Have also arranged to give Mum a pile of 10 plain white cotton pillowcases which I'm not using. She mentioned she was shopping for some and struggling to find ones that were 100% cotton so I said she could have these.

Mum asked what about me, wouldn't I have enough? I have 6 matching pillowcases which came with my duvet. One on the bed, one being repurposed for a non-pillowcase use elsewhere in the flat, which leaves 4 spares. Mum was worried about my leaving my household insufficiently supplied with linen and remarked that I have longer to live than she does.

Playing down my own linen-anxiety, I quipped that when she karks it, I shall loot her linen cupboard and then have plenty............:rotfl:

Truth be told, I do feel slightly wibbly at the prospect of giving away these things, even though I haven't used them in at least 7 years, possibly longer. And heaven knows how long it'd take me to wear out my existing pillowcases; a decade or more, easily, I reckon.

I have just had a supermarket order delivered. Washing powder, etc, all stockupable things and all half price or BOGOF (for the brands DH likes). Plus I had coupons off. So I have saved a lot of money but also managed to put it all away within 10 minutes. I feel good with my minihoards. It is satisfying.

How can 6 pillowcases come with your duvet, GQ?

We seem to be acquiring stuff again lately. Not bought stuff, just stuff. Cupboards seem to be getting fuller of things that we are using. Perhaps I will set myself a 100 target for the bank holiday. I am sure there must be stuff that can go, and if the weather is rubbish at least the recycling centre will be open.

    :) It's one of life's minor mysteries.

About 15 years ago, I was at a carboot sale, had a stall, and other stall-holders were dumping unsold stuff by the bins at the end. I got two matching plain 100% duvets and 6 Oxford style matching pillowscases, all unused, in a suitcase. It's a funny number, isn't it?

My excellent quality omelette pan and an unused enamel casserole dish were retrieved the same way. :o
