I:o
noelphobic, you son is grown man. He needs to be responsible for his own exam certificates. You have enough on your plate without running around after his stuff as well as your own.
He's given me a lot of help with my job application and I am hoping he will continue to do so, as it is still a work in progress. The guy I saw yesterday was very impressed with my draft personal statement and I have my son to thank for that. He didn't write it all but he gave me a lot of guidance. I couldn't have done it without him and my appointment was only an hour yesterday and if I hadn't made a start on the form I wouldn't have been able to cover as much ground.
He's also really unhappy in his job and really wants to get on this course so I will do everything I can to help him. It's just unfortunate timing when I'm dealing with my job applications. I told him to phone his school and they are going to send him a letter with all his exam results on and the uni will hopefully accept that. I told him to phone his old uni to see if they could do the same with his degree but he seems convinced 'we' will either find the certificate or a transcript. I did give him a pile of paperwork belong to him a few days ago and think the transcript may be in there.
I'm making sure that while I look I am throwing out anything I come across that I don't need and putting what I do need to keep into better order, so win, win. I've already got another pile of paperwork for him. I think most of it relates to his degree work and job applications and he won't want most of it but I'm leaving it up to him to sift through.
Spoke to a couple of people this morning to make sure I could use them as referees, which they're OK with. I then plodded on with the application form. Then the computer crashed.
Luckily I hadn't done much extra work on it and it was routine stuff rather than the agonising personal statement. I also had an older version saved.
Just had my new kitchen cupboard doors delivered. The box looks a tad battered so hope they are OK. They're not going to be sorted until I get these job applications (and hopefully interview(s)) out of the way.
Priorities for the foreseeable future are to sort my job application out and help DS to find his certificates. He is coming on Saturday to help in the long search and can hopefully help me further with my applications.
Recycling is picked up tomorrow and I have managed to get quite a lot of paperwork to dispose of while looking for my exam certificates. No doubt there is much more to follow. See you on the other side. :eek:3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -
I bought DS a new duvet cover so the old one (which I also bought and which I've never actually liked; fussy b*gg*r wouldn't have one in the correct shade of colour if it looked anything even vaguely resembling a flower) is being washed and then will go.
Two quick washes done already and hung up. There is a full wash on now after DD's nosebleed last night. I'm impressed with DH managing to get all the blood off the carpet, even if I had to put up with a lot of CSI jokes at the time!
1 pile of stuff to aunt, and 1 to mum, some stuff in the post, recycling has gone, 1 dead plant and soil gone and I think DH may pop to the flower shop to see if there is any replacement.
I shall probably sit with another (yes, another) box of childhood stuff this afternoon and get rid of that.
We were supposed to have an appointment this morning but it got cancelled, hence the alternate activity.
I had an impulse buy yesterday - some matching furniture from a charity shop but will have to wait until my friend can pick it up. It will replace 2 items of furniture, which will either go to family or the recycling place, depending whether they would have a genuine use. DH insists now that we don't offer some things to family as they usually say yes to anything.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
While looking for DS's exam certificates I unearthed another one of my own! The odd thing was that, in the absence of the certificate I guessed that I had done it in 2000, and that proved to be correct. I think it's just one of my GCSE certificates and my ECDL that is missing now.
I did manage to unearth DS's degree certificate in the drawer under his wardrobe. No point in looking for the A Level certificates as he never actually picked them up. Just the GCSE and A2 ones missing but he is getting a letter from the school so not breaking my neck to look for them.
In the process I did get rid of a lot of dross. I came across a folder with sections in. Each section was marked with its contents and ran in alphabetical order. It would be impressive if it wasn't for the fact that some of it (bank statements, bills etc) was over 10 years old!
Back to trying to put my notes into a polished personal statement for my job application tomorrow. Deadline approaching like a speeding train!3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -
Good luck Noelphobic. Keep us informed of progress!
No decluttering done today but the stuff waiting to go in the cs mountain has been properly wrapped in paper and boxed up. It is now waiting in the hall, as near to the front door as possible.
Also, the fridge has been washed out and the contents examined. I hate throwing food away but sometimes it has to be chucked out before it walks out!
Might see if I can take a couple of magazines to work too. They just fly off the table and it will save my groaning paper basket from overflowing. Funny, really. I hate throwing my favourites out but once I've read them a couple of times, I'm not interested in them any more.
Anyway, little and often. Keep going!0 -
Not really done anything for days... we had a charity bag being collected today but for some reason my brain said I couldn't just put out the 3 bags id prepared over last few weeks waiting for such an occassion... my brain said "what if you've accidentally put something in there? you need to double check the bags before you put them out... there could be something you want to keep in there.."
I KNOW there isn't, I KNOW this is my hoarding head winning... but I just cant bring myself to NOT check them... so I haven't put the bags out
I've had a really rubbish week and my anxiety has been really bad so I'm thinking that's why I feel this way so hopefully it is just a blip.0 -

Don't worry Johanne, it definitely sounds like a blip and you should be really pleased with yourself for filling the 3 bags in the first place.
We all have times when we find it difficult and feel like we're taking a backwards step, but in the long term, the fact that you are aware of it and trying to do something about it means that you will eventually take another two steps forward, when you're ready.
The gradual dehoarding continues here. I rounded up and sorted out all my stationery during the Christmas holidays and brought all the superfluous pens, pencils, rubbers, rulers and sharpeners (how can one person have so many sharpeners and rubbers!?) into school (I'm a secondary school teacher) to give to the kids - they loved getting a freebie and I get the bonus of having pupils who have the right equipment with them, for now!
Treated myself to a nice jumper top from the charity shop on the way home todaydon't feel guilty about it as my wardrobe and cupboards are looking particularly orderly and spacious - so different from this time last year.
Keep on chipping away at it people0 -
The Home Check has been carried out. It was every bit as horrendous as I was expecting. My anxiety levels are still through the roof.
However I am not going to let it derail me. It's over; it's weekend and I'm going to plough on tomorrow.
Hugs to anyone else who's struggling. We will over come!

To all having anxious days, take a deep breathe and relax. Ok so things didnt get done today but its not as if you have gone out and bought tons of stuff to fill up the spaces you have made progress in. I have done nothing today as my poorly hubby had a meltdown last night so today was about mending him and everything else went on the back burner. Theres always another day.
Roundtuit, I reckon by mid february we will all be able to see a vast change after whittling slowly away at our clutter. anyway its going to rain all weekend so we will need something to occupy ourselvesClearing the junk to travel light
Saving every single penny.
I will get my caravan0 -
I've got an added incentive to succeed now - a Housing Support Officer will be told about my 'hoarding issues' and will check that regular progress is being made on the decluttering front. No pressure there then.
On the plus front - the fact that I've started removing clutter and joined a 'forum' was in my favour.
I was offered a Tenant Support Officer to help me with the decluttering _pale_ _pale_ _pale_ Thankfully my 'no thankyou I can do it' was accepted.
Oh and I have to complete a pet policy document to be allowed to keep my pet budgie, Charlie!!!! I'll have to have a stern talk to him about any anti-social behaviour he may be planning, bless 'im.
I will survive. I have a 100% success rate at surviving rotten days
Sweet dreams everyone

thanks for the support.. I do love this thread for understanding.
I have managed to list 11 items on my business ebay account which have been sat round in my business stock gathering dust and 4 have sold already
AND I went through all my peel off sticker sheets in my card making stuff (That I haven't touched for months/years) and I picked out 21 sheets that were brand new and unused and id never probably use them so ive listed them individually on ebay so hopefully some will sell and I found some unopened cello bags too so listed them too. If they don't sell in a month I will list them as a joblot for 99p and all else fails they can be sent to DDs school for crafting.
so nothing major gone out the house but hopefully lots of little parcels leaving soon and lots of pennies going into the bank0
