I've been catching up on posts and for some reason the word l.o.v.e in it seems to have been replaced by !!!! not sure if it's just my pc having a sad and lonely day or if there is a luvlorn hacker out there. (()) to either.
anyhoo, having a very up and down emotional couple of days, no particular reason, but determined to crack on as at least then I'll feel i've "Achieved".
went through "linen closet" (a.k.a. rammed to the gunnels chest of drawers) and have decided to cs a lovely set of jl children's beddign with matching cushion covers, ds is too old for them and with other stuff have taken us down to 2 sets of bedding for each child, 3 sets for me and 2 sets for the sofabed (we have umpteen blankets/throws etc and an additional warm flanelette sheet each). which means a) I can get things in and out of the drawers and b) I can do that bedding in the pillow case thing and be organised.
the pillows need some attention - can anyone recommend some good quality-hold-their-plumpness-pillows? ours are all flat as pancakes, so we need multiples, but I'd like some nice new ones and then I promise I'll throw the old ones and we'll need less pillow cases.
bin day hurrah, venturing out now to deposit them at the kerb, but boy it's chilly out there!:AA/give up smoking (done)0 -
Thanks for the info re oven liners, I've ordered a heavy duty silicon one from Amazon (3 actually....one for each oven and one for spare!) so the oven is officially out of bounds until they arrive. It looks so pretty I want to just look at it and lightly polish the front! :rotfl: On a serious note, why do we forget how good nice things make us feel and the pleasure from things being clean and tidy?
Keep it up everyone work is manic for me so I'm back to lurking for a little while, not much sorting going on either but at least I'm managing not to slip backwards xPiglet

Feeling a bit wobbly today, think its just not looking after myself so am taking it easy. Did trek to the post office with the book I sold but was a bit too much and was annoyed as I forgot the latest bag for the cs
Might sit on the bed and sort a box out so I dont lose momentum.
Lobbylud Dunelm mill seems pretty good for pillows. I took Mum there for new quilt and pillows and it describes in detail all about the pillows and quilts and theres always a sale on. False economy to buy cheap ones - ask me how I knowClearing the junk to travel light

Today, I tackled "the cupboard at the top of the stairs"
Took 10 minutes
I pulled everything out, put in some spare freestanding shelves we had, put most things back. About 3 Items put aside for charity.
It now looks tidy, and you can take something out without an avalanche falling on you.
Why didnt I do it sooner?I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Yesterday's washing is dry and has been put away.:T
I took three paperback books to work to see if any of my colleagues wanted them - they did :T

Why didnt I do it sooner? My feelings about the tubbyware cupboard. Which I have just tackled. By emptying it and rounding up all the strays from the kitchen.
I have 3 Lock&Locks, all from c.s., a proper tubbyware and the rest is a misc of ice-cream tubs and not-so-famous brands, plus some Addis stuff. I have round pots and square pots, I have oval ice-cream tubs and octagonal swedish glace tubs. I have two tubs which held jam I bought on Crete in 2001. A couple of tiny tubbywares about the size of egg-cups. And a dwindling batch of those shallow plastic ones like you get takeaways in. I even have a Vitalite tub complete with lid and I don't think they even make them anymore...........:rotfl:
These are the tubs presently not in use, although some have seen service in the past few days and some will be out and about again. There are others in the freezer holding stuff, and some in cupboards, ditto. I'm not prepared to gut the freezer atm, it's bad enough playing Tetris in there at the best of times (tis a tiny tabletop model).
Inventory is enough to take up about a square meter when stacked on the floor. There's also a few other plastic containers demoted for non-food use, such as one holding candle-wax ready for the next pouring session. They won't ever go back into food service because of what they've held.
I have reconciled stuff with their lids and have solved some orphan tub mysteries but have four lids to exciting tubs with no bottoms. I will corral them into a carrier bag until their mates appear. If they haven't shown up in a reasonable time, they will have to be disposed of.
I've decided that the 5 Swedish Glace tubs and their lids are superflous to domestic requirements so won't be going back. I also have only 5 surviving takeaway boxes but 3 times the amount of lids. Hmm, I know there are several more of these participating in the current configuration of Freezer Tetris, but they all have lids. So I have culled the lids, plus another stray Pr*ngle lid (thought I'd got the lot of them).
The plastics fit on two shelves of a not-particularly-wide single wall cupboard, and I've decided that's the max space I shall allow for their brethren. The population will change depending on what I'm cooking but this should be workable.
Now, where did that bright blue small square lid go? Small enough to have escaped down the back of somewhere, I'll be bound. I need to get to the bottom of that - Sherlock! Yer wanted!Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I daren't open the 'plastics' cupboard GQ! I'm sure those boxes and margarine tubs are breeding. There's also the shameful admission that when I listed our sets of plates (blue&white, white china and a set to box up for DD) I forgot that there is also an extensive plastic picnic set in that cupboard. Dear me. The trouble is that I've also saved things to go with it over the years, such as clear plastic salad tubs and washed out plastic tumblers, so they're all rumbling about in there too.
Maybe I'll look into it at the weekend, when it's light enough to see my way out if I get trapped in there.
For today, just disposing of a vase that has been cracked for about a decade.
Keep ploughing on, folks!0 -
After my relief yesterday at finding most of my exam certificates AND listing them on my job application, I was brought back to earth with a bang. I was waiting at the train station to go to see my employment advisor (private, not DWP luckily!), when my son phoned me. He's applied to go back to uni to do a Masters in Social Work. He's got an interview next week and they have asked him to take his exam certificates. He phoned to ask me where they are!:eek:
i've got a week to finish off my job applications (and they are happening painfully slowly, even with help from him and my employment advisor!). I now have to do that AND find his exam certificates - no pressure then!
I did declutter a gift set from my toiletry stash for a friend's birthday. 2 more next week. :j:j3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -
I found that bright blue plastic lid. It was sitting in plain view on the kitchen counter. Duh! I'd got that container out to hold something and it didn't fit, but I'd sullied the container in the attempt so couldn't put it back immediately. So it sat on the counter and the body of the container got used for something, washed and put away, and the lid sat there among the clutter and became invisible. Despite being in plain view and a bright blue plastic square about 4 " in size.
Yup, plastics breed, there's no doubt about it.
noelphobic, you son is grown man. He needs to be responsible for his own exam certificates. You have enough on your plate without running around after his stuff as well as your own.
Today I have a wash going through, as I'm on a late and should have time to get it racked before leaving for work. After work I have some postponed stuff to do such as switching utility provider and then will aim at the kitchen where crime and disorder is running rife.
Have a good day, peeps. GQ xxEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

As an occassional poster and long time lurker I would like to say thanks to you all for brightening my day. I too have a cupboard full of plastic containers. Really must get around to sorting/using them.
My house is still full of `stuff` although we do now have a music/book room, which is very organised. It used to be my DS bedroom and he left home last August and took most of his `stuff` with him. We stripped everything out and painted it. The old shelves from IKEA became my new/storage space. Now my books, knitting/sewing/cross stitch mags/patterns finally have a home. It is also home to DH`s guitars and amplifier which used to live in our bedroom. Also bought a sofa bed for when he wants to visit, plus it`s nice to sit and chill there. Now just need to work on the next room.
Keep on going everyone, you`re doing great.0
