Yes, I would try to ebay but allow a set time and then it goes straight out if unsold.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

Just waved goodbye to one of the small bookshelves from the top of the stairs. Dgs needed a dvd stand so we altered the shelves and Bobs your aunty :T Took 2 more bags of books to the Cs and moved the rest on to the empty shelves I cleared last weeek. Bought 1 book and a cake tin from the Cs today but thats all I have bought in weeks. Just waiting for some bits to arrive to add to the charity parcel then that can go on Monday.
Noel thats good thinking, Cs's have a problem with getting rid of things they cannot use as there is no budget so usually you have to jump up and down in the big bin or hope some one nice will go to the tip for you. Dont let it put you off sending clothes that are past their best though, just mark the bag as re-cycling and they will be able to add them to their pile without soring themClearing the junk to travel light

Re the plates belonging to a set, are the rest of the set things you use, or do you have several tiers of crockery in the cupboards, which seems to be the norm in households I grew up in.
Eg, the everyday motley stuff, the slightly better stuff, the company special stuff, the wedding china, the wife's mother's wedding china, the husband's mother's wedding china, the stuff brought back from Forn Parts and the glasses from Esso (or wherever it was, back in the day).
Keep on keeping on, lovely peeps, we're pecking away at it slowly, aren't we? GQ xx
This was what my house was like when Jojo started the thread. I was helping clear out Mum's second house at the time (she had remarried and couldn't bear to get rid of it - just in case) so I was also accumulating stuff from her house. I had my every day set, the best china (some of which was Gran's), Mum's wedding china, Gran's best china, some blue and white stuff from the great Aunties and some china that I actually liked. Something had to go and I had to stop myself repeating the problem by trying to save stuff for DD and DS.
So now I have the blue and white stuff, a small set of white china that someone gave me (!) to which the extra plates belong, and Gran's china, which DD insists she actually wants. I am going to box it up for her when I have the energy. But that does mean trying to insert it into the Cupboard of Doom upstairs.

That's true. I was told by one of the regular 0xfam team that they get paid for the weight of rags they send off for recycling, so I now divide my charity shop bags up and label the rags to make sorting easier for them.0 -

Do you use Facebook? You'll probably find that there are local selling groups for your area on FB, no fees and local buyers so collection isn't an issue.Piglet

bought myself a pair of new boots so i told myself i need to throw out 3 items of clothing or shoes..... looked through the clean clothes (that wont fit in my drawer at min:o) and found 7 items for the charity shop bag! woo!!
We went to ikea today to try solve some kitchen storage issues... annoyingly they didnt have all we needed but got few bits.. including another set of the LED lights we needed to finish off a row in dark corner... thing was we only needed 2 strips and they just click onto our existing sets BUT pack came with 3 strips and a plug... i told OH to put them in the shed "incase".... then shouted him back... "no no ive had an idea!!"... DD has one them midsleeper beds with a den under which for months she hasnt been able to use as it was crammed with toys so no room to go under and playBUT the other day i had a major tidy under her bed and made a little space she can go and sit on her beanbag... so OH has took the one strip of lights and plug up and attached it on the underneath of her bed so she now has a little light under her bed in her den she can go and sit and read/play in her "play house"
:D
We also bought a new chopping board and when we got home our battered probably very unhygenic one was sat waiting to be washed up ...... so i just binned it!Old me woulda cleaned it and kept it "incase" or for crafting when using my craft knife etc..
Tonight i made a curry too... using ingredients i bought to make it months ago and never got round to doing so the ingredients where taking up space in my cupboard.. ive looked at them a million times and thought "Ill get round to making that" and never had!
definetly a change of mind occured... hope it continues!!0 -

:hello: hello. I've been reading the thread while hibernating through/ surviving the past few months and I identify with so many things that are said/ felt. What I need to do is stop the start, stop, start again cycle 'cause I keep ending up back where I started.. drowning in clutterLike I am again now.
DS has returned to Uni and there's someone coming from the Council to do a Home Check on Friday .... a new initiative - they want to know their tenants better! Just another nightmare as far as I'm concerned... I'm not thinking about it or it makes me feel sick.
Anyway I can't wave a magic wand a la Fantasia, but I can make a fresh start, and I know I'll do more if I post regularly on this thread....so I apologise now for the coming onslaught of posts. And if I stop posting please feel free to throw something in my direction as a prompt.

Love your user name and can identify with so much of what you say. I feel like it's 2 steps forward and 3 steps back all the time, and am trying to break that cycle. Also dread visitors - would be lovely to actually WANT people to visit and not have a panic attack every time it's suggested.
I have the same problem with the emoticons when using Internet Explorer, but can use them when I use Google Chrome.3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -
Lovely to "see" you roundtuit.
I work for a council and have had a "home check". It's something which councils are being encouraged to do nationally, as it's been identified that this has been generally lacking and that some tenants may need extra help but aren't about to ask for it.
Mine took about 5 mins, checking they had my phone numbers correctly and next-of-kin details and asking if I had any issues I wanted to discuss. The housing officer could only see the part of my home visible from the sofa and certainly didn't ask to have a tour of the premises or go poking into things.
Please try not to worry yourself about it, I'm sure it'll be no more than that.
Re the smilies etc; I used to use IE8 (am now on FireF0x) and both worked the emoticons just fine. You need to have the cursor in this box where you want the thingy to appear and then click on it on the side panel. There's also a lot more funny ones behind the More on the the side panel - it opens up in another window.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
