Ok I need to do something

This week uncovered tuna (BBD April 2013) peaches (BBD June 2011 and a few others) and more

I have major major hoarding issues with food mainly after being so flat broke I couldn't afford any, especially when money is really tight I get worse, I spend any we do have ASAP so I know it can't be spent elsewhere. That's after other experiences of people taking what's left and spending on other things

Cleaning stuff one is better but not great, I found over 170 dishwasher tablets yesterday and I nearly bought some on Wednesday but resisted. Cosmetics and stuff likewise. The list is endless. There is a lot of clothes we've not fitted for years too. Kitchen stuff, broken things, mountains of just 'stuff' oh dear. I have 4 freezers inc the smaller above fridge one, 2 small under bench, one 6ft one, always full, always got too much to fit in it.

Don't know where to start but here seems a good idea
:) (((lil_me))) hang on in there. All those cans you named will be fine to eat, you haven't wasted anything.

I had a thought, which is just a suggestion, you understand. How do you feel about running a stock-take on your belongings, by category? Say Toiletries, Cleaning Materials, Food (by category)?

Then, you could see at a glance what you have and could check before going shopping to make sure that you don't duplicate or triplicate purchases?

This may be something which is not right for your type of personality, or where you are at the moment, so ignore it if it's not "you".

roundtuit, latest allotment news; I have new neighbours on one side! Am deeply chuffed as I met them briefly a few weeks ago when they were checking out their offer then no sign since, so I assumed that they'd declined the offer and it was still empty. So pleased they are up there and starting on it. We had a lovely chat, too.

Alas, I was feeling too whacked to garden, so simply scooped up an IKEA bagful of couch grass tussocks and the like and strapped it on the bike carrier and pedalled off to the tip, which I can sort of "swing by" on my way home, if I make a loop rather than a direct route home.

I did think about pedalling back to the lottie and collecting another load but I'm very tired and had to do some food shopping, so will leave that for tomorrow. It would be several trips by car, so will have to peck away at it on the pushbike. It's do-able, just takes time.

 I have brought two new-to-me things into the flat, total spend £1 for both; a bedsheet and a top of a kind I was after. Forgive me. :o

Anyway, whilst rummaging for a replacement strainer spoon (the nylon scoop on mine cracked last weekend) I had a thought. Does anyone think it would be a problem if I repaired this with superglue - something I already have? Any likely problems?

Righty, need to strip sprouts from their stalk and then get the tea on.

ETA PQ, I would need a small swimming pool to drown this amount of couch grass, unfortunately. I did know this was possible, just not feasible in my circumstances. The couch grass was a light seasoning to the green waste section of the tip which was mainly full of poor christmas trees.

Evening all, nice to see you back Roundtuit

I treated myself to a day's shopping today, in proper shops, not ebay and charity shops! I couldn't bear to actually buy anything though...it was all too expensive and might clutter up my lovely bits of space!

I did buy a few bits of tat from Dunelm, it's no wonder we are all struggling to get in the doors of our homes, the rampant consumerism in those places is hard to resist.

Errm cleaning products.....well as well as the 25 packets of anti-bac wipes declared last week, I've got a new box of Aldi dishwasher tabs, a nearly new box of Finish (bought ages ago and only just used) annnnnnddddd two 10kg tubs of dishwasher powder bought on ebay the other day :D

I reckon I've got nearly two and a half years supply of dishwasher detergent....ooops

Keep going everyone, every little helps x

lil_me - don't worry about the tins - I buy stuff that out of date... but you might want to put a stock rotation system in place to help you make sure that you use the oldest stuff first. And maybe do some meal planning with the aim of reducing your stocks to something manageable.

(I realise this is somewhat ironic from someone who CBA to manage their food stocks as they are all kept in crates under a table as I have finally finished gutting the kitchen and have no storage at all... )

:)greenbee, we're good on the theories, all of us, we just tend to fall down a bit on the practical exams. But we're getting better, with our one-to-one online coaching.

Whew, that was a metaphor being done to death. :rotfl:

I've just stripped the sprouts off the sprout stalk and shot it outside to the food waste collection. That'd take an eon to rot in my allotment's compost dalek. Now about to do something with some of them (steaming) and have with chili con carne and pasta.

:o OK, I'm weird, but there's no one else being fed at this gaff tonight and I really don't care.

    Kitchen, forward!

    I am afraid

    VERY afraid

OH has gone to his mother's today. She is moving from a large 4 bed detached house with double garage into a 2 bed bungalow on a sheltered housing development.

Understandably it is stressing her out - at 82 everything is hassle. Anyhow, one of the things upsetting her is that she is trying to offload stuff onto her children and families, and we don't want it.

He has gone to help "sort stuff out" - I am truly worried about what he will come home with cos he won't chuck anything away.

I texted and asked how full the car is (large estate car at that). he said "heaving". I don't know if he's joking or not :(

GQ - buy a new spoon!

    :p It's against my religion.

How soon will the car-ful arrive? I'm on tenterhooks for ya. Is he coming back tonight? Any idea what categories of "stuff" might be incoming?

I do know there are likely to be some pictures in there - some of which were painted by deceased FIL. I don't mind new pictures, FIL's are good and OH has a better eye than me in any case, but we are running out of wall space.

It is assorted tat I am bothered about - cos he won't get rid if it was his dad's. We have a shelf full of vinyl records that never get played, and books that are never read - but "they were dad's". Even though dad would have replaced it all with the cd's we have!

    Regrettably the tips are closed.

Thank you for the welcome and support today xx

Friend L was thrilled to be given the 2 books and will pass them on to her sister or the church when she's read them. Friend S was delighted to see her crockery again :o and happy to help with the surplus recycling. So that's three bags of stuff gone this afti. Plus as well as the bin bag from DS's bedroom bin, I collected another carrier bag full of detritus from his room (used paper plate, empty crisp packet, empty deodorant etc), plus some cardboard for recycling, a can to recycle and one sock - gone on the laundry pile and hopefully it has a partner in the odd sock pile :D How many odd socks can one person have???

I also took the last two cotton buds out of their container and put them into a new (full) container - so that I could throw the empty container out....even though it did look as though it might be useful for keeping something in!!!! NO! Bin it now I told myself and did do.:T

That's it for today. Have a good evening everyone.

    Rxx
