Pretty much everything that was half done is now complete and packed away. Phew.
Tomorrow is going to be very busy with work. I am dreading it already. My working pattern has changed a lot and I am not used to the new routine yet.
I also don't have a diary for this year yet, and we haven't put our shifts on to the calendar. Normally by this point we have already worked out which days to book off. Never mind, we are behind on some things and well ahead on others. We had a good year last year, and I really do think more went out than came in.
Have also drunk plenty of water today. Should have a small glass now really.
Good night, all. One small step at a time.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -

Happy new year everyone
I haven't posted on this thread for a while but read almost daily, as the lovely GQ says keep on keepin' on peeps, we are all doing so well. The past few months have been interesting, stuff-wise. With a toddler and another on the way in just a couple of short months keeping the house clear of the dreaded Mount Stuffmore seems to be a constant battle. We bring so little in that isn't consumable, yet I seem to be in a permanent battle to declutter. I am getting better at saying a firm but polite "no thank you" to the offers of baby clothes/toys/other general stuff that we get from friends and family, but there are still occasions when I find myself coming home with bags of things from others houses and wondering why.
I consider myself quite a minimalist person, and therefore root through things and clear out regularly, yet it never seems to be quite enough - I need to be more ruthless. We have started the year well by decluttering an old sofa that we no longer need and was just sitting disassembled in our study to a friend. That will be gone next week - I can't wait to get the space back as I really love my study, it is normally one of the only calm places in this house but at the moment it looks a fright.
My daughter has gone to a friend's today so I can crack on with sorting, but as soon as I sat down to do a paperwork cull the tradesman who is here doing some joinery work for us knocked on the study door to tell me he has nicked a water pipeCue a huge leak, a mad dash to B&Q and the work being put on hold. Water has had to be turned off, so the 5 loads of washing I had to do today are now still just piled up all over the floor. Why is it that when you are trying your hardest you have a day of being the statue as opposed to the pigeon?
Anyway I'm sorry for the little moan. I am so grateful for this thread as it really keeps me on track and I dread to think where I would be without it. Keep on truckin' peeps xxMFW

The biggest, biggest advantage to me of being more decluttered is that I am much better at dealing with life's big wobbles. I can simply choose not to declutter a cupboard or drawer that I had planned to because something unexpected has happened. It's much harder and more stressful when the decluttering is needed because you are ashamed to have unexpected people drop in.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Yesterday panned out as I hoped, xmas stuff put in loft and dining room 'under stairs' area sorted out. This means that I have also managed to put under there the two tool boxes and tin of paint I have waiting to be used. So it is much more organised and tidier.
At work for the next few days so nothing will be done then.
I think my next plan is to look at the shed again, as I have been taking things in and out it has become a bit disorganised. I also put emergency cat stuff in there (food and litter) and want to get it better planned. The food is the pouches in boxes but not sure if this should come out as may attract mice. I will hopefully do this monday.
Surprisingly I have kept on top of the paperwork so that is all in the files it should be, probably due to being xmas and needing to have dining table as a table.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
Just a quick update from me, if anyone remembers me from way back in the thread
We eventually moved house just before Christmas. We had managed to get rid of so much stuff before we moved as the new house has so little storage space.
Most of our loft contents are sat in the leaking garage getting wet until we can get the loft boarded out (Although the roof is also leaking at the mo )
We have continued on our declutter mission and we have already filled the car twice with junk for the tip since we have been here. And I have finally persuaded DH to donate some books to charity - 4 carrier bags full so far
So the mission continues...

20 items listed on fleabay. Have decided that if its just sat here looking at me it isnt helping improve my life. A lot of it is vintage trimmings and crochet blankets I have made. I have to make things to keep occupied whilst caring for OH and even if I only sell them for a couple of quid its better than piling them up. More stuff to go on Monday so crossing my fingers. If it all goes I have removed a large shopping bag full and gained money for my debt busting .
I am in the unenviable position of having a partner with limited life expectancy so 'stuff' is unimportant and I may have to downsize at some point. i may as well make my life easier as well as removing the stress of all this 'stuff' tooClearing the junk to travel light
Saving every single penny.
I will get my caravan0 -
Sorry to hear that, Ginnyknit. Am decluttering crocheted blankets myself here. It's been surprising who has wanted one - MIL, Mum and a friend have all taken one and I know my local Oxf4m sells them for £7.99 each, so it seems other people are benefitting.
Also decluttering my craft cupboard. Always a painful experience...0 -
I gave away some of my gift tags to delighted recipients.
There is a lot more I could be doing today but I am lying on the sofa with a duvet as I can't get warm.
Keep up the good work everyone, you're doing great!:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
I got some boxed Christmas cards for this year in the sales - 5 boxes, which I have merged into 2 boxes without squashing them, so that's 3 empty boxes that will go to an aunty for filling with home made treats.
DH says he will take the recycling out today. The cupboard under the sink is full of it, and I can't honestly work out where it has all come from as I thought we'd kept on top of it over Christmas.
Carrier bags go to the charity shop.
I must just go and do something - it doesn't matter what, but I must 'do' it. I keep planning stuff in my head, when I could have done a lot of it in the time it is taking to think about it.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them.
