alfsmum, if the mugs are in a box, then you're not using them. However, what I would do is get every single mug that I own out on the table, then check them through discarding chipped and cracked, and ones we don't like. Then keep x number of ones we do like. Can any others be regifted eg in hampers? Or with snowman soup. It has to be a true save with a particular person in mind or else it is hoarding, and only if the person will really like it.

I popped into Clintons today and got the remaining 'family' Christmas cards I needed on 3 for £1 - bargain. There are a couple that I will need to add 'uncle' or 'grandad' to but the cards are beautiful.

I need to get on with some work now.

    Wow. Lease of life today!!

OH went to work at 7 and I have non-stopped from then until now.
My Monday tasks are hoover and dust every room and 2 stair cases from top to bottom and clean under the sofas. This has all been done along with much much more.
The tree has now been put away (takes much longer than you set out for!!)
All toys have been sorted and taken upstairs.
Pots have been done, all sides wipes round in Kitchen.
2 lots of washing done and dried.
Marks washed off dining room carpet that got there over the christmas period, and now waiting for my Asda to come and then put away.
    So pleased with myself.
Is first day of my diet today and I have a lot to use.
Housework is so much better, fulfilling and cheaper than a gym!!!

  • Went through a craft box with DD last night and it's surprising how much tatty stuff was in there. I was keeping a lot of tiny pencils because, quite frankly, no-one else would want them but it seemed like an eco crime to throw things like that away. Anyway, they have gone in the bin, along with the half-used bits of shiny paper and old exercise books. The rest will go to the local 0xfam or to a friend with grandchildren.

I also got rid of a lovely jumper which suits me and fits well but is from the days when jeans actually covered your belly, instead of fastening half way up it.

Finally, am going to mine the under stairs cupboard for a carrier large enough to hold my red velvet curtains (sob). They need to go. I will never use them to make a patchwork quilt or yet another set of cushion covers. It's just that I love velvet and these were so beautifully made ...

ooooooohhhhhh velvet!!! I'm a terror for fabric, I'd have them off you in a blink (don't tell me where you live!!).

hello Noel, and welcome, this is such a great thread, and has helped me hugely.

thanks for all the present permissions. I think I'm getting more comfortable with cs'ing it. I do ask for very practical presents from everyone - I send my dad a link and he gets the thing delivered straight to me, he's not a one for any clutter whatsoever! I gave my mum three practical things as ideas to choose from, she got me all of them and a few surprise gifts bless her, and these I know (because the middle trinket box had the label stuck on it) she'll have got in a craft fair on her holibobs so no receipt. I also know why she gets me so much (she told me)- because I don't have a partner and my kids are young she feels someone should be making a fuss of me and that no-one else will do it.

which is lovely, except I'm very happy having no partner, and if I want someone to spoil me with "stuff" then I only need to look as far as the nearest mirror!

in fact her telling me why she is giving me so much sort of made me feel bad about my situation, when actually I am normally ecstatic that I am free. I am going to have to talk to her, about how happy I actually am, to release us both from this, but slowly and gently when the time is right.

anyhoo, a rubbish bag full of broken toys and outgrown clothes from ds's room plus a toybox to demolish and recycle. the bedroom jigsaw won't work the way I thought it would, I may need graph paper!

Box from the corner of the living room GONE! its only been there since August. Another bag for CS including 2 heavy belts I must have bought for OH whicch have been moving around my bedroom while I wondered where the heck I got them. They dont fit him, apparently we bought one 4 years ago on a market in Dewsbury. :(

10 parcels for posting tomorrow and £25 in the bank from fleabay :j Mainly envelopes of vintage buttons but it all adds up as you can see. Went shopping in Stockport and avoided the £ shops and only bought necessities from Primarni, underpants and socks for Hubby.

Started another bin bag in the bedroom of doom and re-cycled bottles in bathroom. Tiny chest of drawers in the loo now empty  empty loo rolls and wrappers off pads stuck in there. Wow I feel good.

I'm in a similar situation, and have had the discussion with my mum. So she gets me what I need, and is very clear what else might be acceptable. I've had to be pretty tough making clear I don't want more stuff to dust.

I got rid of a lot of boxes and bowls etc a year or so ago by using them up as packaging for gifts. That way if the recipients wanted to see them as simply packaging they could. And if they had a use for them, then they could use it. LOTS of kitchen stuff went out as packaging for christmas hampers!

All I have done today before work is pack the dishwasher, wipe the counters, wrap up a CD for a birthday present, make 2 Christmas cards (arrived yesterday) into gift tags and put them away. I shredded one envelope.

DH made the beds and had a small tidy round.

I feel that I should have done more really.
