Please help me to get rid of the rather nice earthenware pot the stilton came in.
Let me tell you a story.....
Once upon a time there was a woman called - umm - called Sarah. She had once owned a rather lovely earthenware Stilton pot. Sadly, due to the carelessness of a husband/ pet/child/burglar, Sarah's Stilton pot was broken. She was very upset. In fact, she's never truly recovered from the loss and scours charity shops every week, hoping to drop her hand on a replacement Stilton pot.
I happen to know that Sarah lives somewhere near you, certainly near to the charity shop where you'll donate this Stilton pot. She'll be searching again in January. Now you know her neediness, will you be able to hang onto this pot? A lovely generous lady like yourself?

In return, can someone tell me that it's OK to bin two yoghurt pots? They could theoretically be used for small painting jobs and mixing small amounts of polyfilla. Not that I have anything needing polyfilling for the foreseeable future - help!Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Well I have just washed out another Lovely candle jar. This one I can't get all wax out....so was actually thinking of keeping just the lid...just in case it fits another jar. why would I need it when other jar has it's own lid..!!! I am certifiable sometimes !
Lid going in bin now, can't part with lovely jars yet as may be good for keeping herbs in anyway once I get smell away.
Ditch the yoghurt pots....you will get more anyhow.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
I have 2 candle jars ready for the "what can these be used for" pile, but on just writing that, I think I will take them to the tip where they recyle glass thingys. Ahha, I know, someone I know collects shells and small stones from the beach, and adds them to jars, it looks really effective, plus a nice reminder of your walks. She puts the same sizes of each item into the appropriate jar, they are not mixed up into different sizes.
I melt the remaining candle wax on top of my wood burner (in the jar), and then add a new wick if I have enough wax. Don't know a safe way to melt wax otherwise, although some could argue melting on top of the wood burner isn't exactly safe.
VJsmum, off to the CS with it, as GQ suggested in her fab story...I mean, factual anecdote0 -
Byatt, I remake old candle-shreds into new candles. Just use a double-boiler system; chipped wax into a food can (beans or soup stylee) and about 2 inches of water brought to a rolling boil in a pan, can sits in pan and wax melts. A full can melts down to about 1/3rd can. I use the kitchen tongs to lift the can out and Pr*ngle tubes as candle molds. It's fine but don't leave the pan unattended or the elf and safety elves will be visiting you.
I will bin my 2 yoghurt pots. The recycling won't take them and I was swithering as I don't usually have yoghurt but they were heftily discounted (8p each) so I had a couple. Hence there won't be any more of them - but they aren't exactly rare so I will regretfully let them go.
I found some professionally taken photographs from a theatre show which I worked on about 20 years ago so have posted them to the rep theatre where the show was, with a note about which show they're from and they can have them/ bin them. No one I know was in the shots but they're good pix and may be of interest to someone at the theatre.I have an empty cupboard in my wall unit. It is a very small cupboard and its emptiness will be temporary, as there are plenty of things floating about the room needing to be cupboarded, but it's still something I didn't expect to happen.
Keep on keeping on, lovely peeps.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Thanks GQ, :T
Well, I'm having a last snowball, had my yearly bath(I usually shower), and will be off to bed with a good book!
Happy New Year, fellow horders, thank you for your support and your posts sharing your lives and experiences. They are never wasted, you are touching people's lives with your insights, your ups and downs, your joy and sadness. Take care, and remember it's a new moon tonight too, so new beginnings abound. :A0 -
I have an empty cupboard in my wall unit.
Something similar has happened here, I have bought doors for my Ikea Billy Bookcases and we've had a good sort through the contents of them and freed up...nearly 5 shelves that's nearly a third of the overall shelves! Amazing! For the first time ever it appears that I don't have enough pretty tat to display behind the glass doors!
Having dealt with the bulk of the stuff that I have hoarded for so many years, I am getting much better at not getting attached to things so that they don't become an issue.
Keep going everyone, deal with those difficult issues as and when you feel you can and just keep doing something rather than being completely overwhelmed by it all.
Happy New YearPiglet

Keep on keeping on, lovely peeps.
I have the back of one of the dining chairs empty of sewing/mending. :j
I have measured, marked, cut, pinned, hemmed and ironed three pairs of trousers - overnight.
That's the trouble with evening and night shifts, my body clock is all over the place and I need to get on, stop procrastinating and start doing stuff - but quietly.
Everything's in piles for the washing machine, I'm preparing for a night shift and there's still a huge pile of stuff to do upstairs.
But this morning, I'm up three pairs of wearable trousers.
Now for all the cross stitch, the two coats, the two jackets, the top.........
*re-lurks* Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -
Come back ginger nutty you are cluttering up the lurking cupboard.:p
Happy new year to you all.
I'm off upstairs in a while with the shredder which will no end break down after 2 minutes use. Anyway you may never hear from me again so it was nice knowing you all.:rotfl:1 debt v's 100 days chapter 34: T3sco bank CC £250/£525.24 47.59%

Happy new year everyone
House disorganised chaos, clothes needing ironing, bathrooms needing cleaning.
So today I cook a nice meal enjoy hubby being home as he is back to work tomorrow. Will burn bits and pieces as will have the fire lit this afternoon. Old bits receipts etc that are lying around.
Tomorrow I start tidying one room at a time. It may take a few days for each one but I will do each one until finished. Then when rooms are done I will start a deep clean. I hope by the end of January and a very big birthday looming that I have a tidy clean house and an organised wardrobe.
Not much to do then
Take care all and all the best for the oncoming tidier, less cluttered year.0
