    Byatt,

You could see if there is a local historian who would be interested. They like the personal touch on local history.

Or if there is a romantic author you like, see if they'd like them for research/inspiration purposes.

Failing that, have a ceremonial burning - that seems quite romantic. My nan burnt my grandparents war letters before she died so no one else saw them. I would have loved to have read them.

Before you do that, feel free to quote from them on this thread, if there's nothing too identifiable. I love little -and big - glimpses of how other people think and feel and live their lives. Then a bit of family can live on forever in our hoarders' hearts.
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.

Mrs Atobe & Whitewing, thank you for your suggestions, tbh, they are not very personal, my parents were very religious, so it's mostly stuff they have written about their faith, and so on. No social history of any sort or personal history really. I've searched trough the writings in the hope of something related to us children, but apart from a couple of things which were mostly negative, there is absolutely nothing. There is one letter from my dad to my mum that alludes to their past (war time romance, he was married), but brings up more questions than answers, and in some ways wish I'd never seen it.

My mum got rid of all dad's diaries after he died, so that was very sad for me.

So, why is it hard. Well, it's really all that I have left of them, even though it's painful to read. I did burn some things, the cards and such. I will probably do the same with these eventually, I guess there's no rush. It's only a small pile. One day I will be ready.

It's funny, as with everything else I've de-hoarded, the process is much harder, but once it's actually done, I feel much lighter.

I think you can get Christmas baubles that are plastic domes that you can put stuff in. Why not cut some of the phrases out and make them into decorations that come out at Christmas?

Or cover some hanging baubles with the writing, and clear varnish over them so you have their handwriting as the actual bauble. That would look nicer.

Recycling is in the car to be taken tomorrow.

Five boxes with plastic lids that housed xmas decorations have gone to home-cooking aunty so she can use them for gifts of hm biscuits.

Xmas cards for extended family have gone to someone who will deliver them for free.

Other stuff has gone in the post. Got a few that need stamps still but they will go tomorrow.

Washing is in the machine but will be put on first thing so I can include night clothes.

While we were in bed last night, DH put the tree up as a surprise. It was lovely and so thoughtful. It made me very grateful for this thread as the space in the house that has been generated means that there is space to move things around without everything collapsing or getting lost. It also means that jobs can be done over a couple of timeslots because the 'in progress' stuff can be put somewhere out of the way if something else interrupts.

Also got rid of two boxes of stuff on Friday.

A few things have come in but nothing much.

I said 'no' to something that a relative wanted to pass on. No longer do I feel that they are giving me a piece of their heart when they give me something they no longer want.

 My goodness, was that 31 bin bags of decluttering, or did some of it include the household waste? That's awesome. Be sure to get enough rest, though.

No this was in addition to regular rubbish/recycling which goes out at around 3 binbags a day.

In one day I did do 9 bags from the boys room!
