They don't actually by the books from you, you list your books and if someone buys them they pay £3.75 and you get £3 of that money. At least that's how it worked when I bought a couple a while ago.0 -
I have labelled a cable!! thanks GQ, many more to go, and then I will throw without delving the remaining box of random connectivity in the cupboard. I sorted this cupboard 6 months ago and have never had cause to delve into the box. prime candidate.
long armed grabber is here, and it's great!!! in fact once this back pain goes I'm going to carry on using it - when I think of all that wasted time I used to spend bending (in a manner completely counter to all manual handling training I've received) to pick stuff up off the floor. no more people.
also, I have decluttered the urge to hunt down and kill the inventor of playdough and instead instituted a new rule: if it goes on the floor it gets hoovered up. I've not told the kids, I've simply put it into action, as I figure this way the stocks will deplete faster.
oh and some paperwork gone, not much, but every little etc.:AA/give up smoking (done)0 -
I got rid of 8 boxes of business-related stuff.
Also 1 bag of apples.
Potted up some plants that will form part of the family's christmas presents.
I've got a pile of good books that I've read. Not sure whether to keep them or pass them on.
DH is on a bit of a downer this week. I don't know why. He's usually fine. He seems unwilling - not taking his usual care. He'll maybe get DD up and dressed but will leave her pj's in the living room, and the hairbrush on the side. I seem to be constantly picking up after him. The good news is that I find the displaced objects unsettling, whereas before I wouldn't have noticed if the recycling lorry had reversed into my house and emptied its contents.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Oh no GQ now I have to think about keys as well... I constantly find keys (door keys, window keys, padlock keys, keys of unidentifiable origin...) in random places (handbags, drawers, cupboards), most of which I haven't a clue what they're for. So that's it, once the chargers (and other electrical gubbins) is sorted tonight I'm going to start checking keys. If they don't unlock anything here they can go. Might not make a huge dent in the mess but it's progress
Keep at it kayster, you're doing better than I am!0 -
We've just had another mammoth de-hoarding session at the mollythewestie house today! :j
I've lost count of how much we have got rid of today, but it's about 7 bin bags of rubbish to the tip, 1 bin bag of clothes and a box of books ready to go to the charity shop and a child's pushchair which I am going to put on gumtree right now.
Other things we found lurking in loft included: Video tapes (which we can't even play now as we don't have a VHS player) and boxes of stuff that were still sealed from when we moved in 7 years ago.Value of prizes 2010 - 2017: £8374 Wins 2022: Magic set

Welcome Kayester,
When I started, I took a drawer or cupboard at a time and started very slowly.
If I didn't have much time I would put a carrier bag on the living room door handle (Or upstairs on a bedroom door handle) and would fill it by the end of the day, just by grabbing 1 or 2 items of rubbish from each room at a time, and putting it in the bag as I passed by.
Once I started, I couldn't stop and now everything (including husband and daughter if they stood still long enough :rotfl:) is put in it's rightful place or thrown away immediately.Value of prizes 2010 - 2017: £8374 Wins 2022: Magic set

Thanks, Pollybear. I don't think it was Green Metropolis that I saw, but it seems a great way to give to your favourite charities too. I sponsor two dogs with Dogs Trust and they are listed.
Rummaged at the back of a floor - standing cabinet in the bathroom and found two empty plastic spray/pump bottles being kept for no discernible reason plus an ancient non aerosol hairspray. All in recycling and bathroom cleaned too.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Any room for so done who hasn't been here for a while, or if I haven't been used for a while to I get chucked out as 'Richard'? Do you still use the term Dericharding since I left?
Hiiii lostinrates, I thought there was a regular missing, I enjoy seeing the pics of your house renovationIt's looking very good
Allotmenteering is like having a secret lover; you're always wanting to be over there, thinking about it when you should be doing other things, spending too much money on inappropriate gifts and sulking when it doesn't do what you want........:D
Most of it isn't cutesy, although my shed does have gingham curtains as a nod to feyness and femininity. The rest is a bit like fighting in the trenches. Make sure that you have good boots (I have Doc Martens with steel toecaps), sturdy gloves, a sun hat or woolly hat depending on the season, and a GSOH.
The latter is the critical substance. I have a robust one ,but if that fails me, I have resorted to cussing.
Flasks of tea and chocolate also help.
I spent a lot of my childhood on my mum's allotment, we helped her in the beginning when she had to clear it so loving hearing about your ongoing battle with the rough
Also I found your comparison with having an allotment and having a secret lover HILARIOUS! I don't have one but I understand completely what you mean :rotfl:
Bits and bobs of decluttering going on here, trying to scale down my huge collection of books and clothes once more. Paperwork also needs another sort soon...sigh, does it ever end when you have hoarding tendancies or do they small changes in habits that I continually make help a bit eventually?Don't turn a slip up into a give up
