The children play more when there is less available.
This is so true whitewing for many things, not just toys. I have just freecycled my massive hoard of tea - sorted out the 40ish boxes of tea and kept about 10 that I like and gave 30 away. I feel lighter because of it and am actually enjoying drinking different types of tea again as it doesn't feel like a struggle!
I was a bit obsessed with tea when at uni so for a few years, family and friends bought me tea for birthdays and Christmas so I amassed an overwhelming collection of teas and infusions, not all of which I fancied drinking. So pleased that my tea collection is now a pleasure to choose from rather than a cardboard box of doom. Hurrah!0 -
Flub, I just read your post thinking, I'd love to have your mangle.
me too lol. I did have a flash of my grandma using one - thinking about it - at the time I felt blinking glad I would never have to use one myself.
dyson has had a split in it's hose for a couple of months now - every time i use it I have to re selotape it otherwise no suction - so on my to-do list was mending it properly - good points - I could find the various glues etc without hassle which would have been impossible this time last year, but would they blinking fix it - no they wouldn't - after an hour in despair i went on fleabay and found i could get a replacement for £10 delivered. and they had a replacement for the upper bit where my handle has broken off so I threw caution to the wind and bought that too. £17 delivered for the 2 bits, came in 2 days swapped over in 2 mins - works like a dream, and dead easy to manoeuvre, I may actually (gasp) hoover something.
the broken bits are still in my lounge though. I keep thinking what if the new bits break, i should keep these as possible replacements in case that happens - that's bonkers isn't it? they're broken, I can get replacements cheap that come quickly. still..... arghh!!
hammock still not mended, I've not got it out yet because if the kids see it, they'll want to go on it NOW! and I want to be able to sneak it out unseen if it's too big a job to mend.
other than that no progress. friend left 3 massive bin bags of clothes on my porch whilst I was at work. with strict instructions to bin anything I don't want, but I feel a bit too overwhelmed to go through it.:AA/give up smoking (done)0 -
Chuck the broken bits away. You'll be glad you did. It's tatty rubbish.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

Hi,
Lobbyludd, gaffer tape would have fixed it, were you really using actual selotape? Bless you that is really funny (don't mean that in a bad way, laughing with you not at you as have done similar crazy botch-job fixes myself).
It's funny isn't it once people get to know you like having things from people and supposedly 'make use of everything' you end up with everyone else's 'stuff'. I used to do up furniture (just for myself mainly as love old things), I haven't done this for around 10 years, but anytime anyone is throwing something out they phone me first to see if I can 'do something with it'.......it's murder pushing myself to say no, and I can never just do that, I have to get them to send me a photo of it just in case i'm missing something fab. An ex is arriving tomorrow with the stuff he has stored for me the last 15 years and as he is moving down south is also bringing some furniture for me....it will be modern stuff so if I don't like it I will have no problem getting rid, but if it were old and had a history and was wood (as opposed to modern krap,) I would have a major problem turfing it to the curb...i do love old wood.
Anyhow, nothing done here, I have been out for lunch with friends and talking about how best to secure a good retirement (we are all 10-20 years off it so thinking on those terms now) , ranging from buying flats to rent out and then have as retirement home, to having a huge second hand brick-a brac/antique shop (hair coming out of head as I would buy more than we sold).
Lobbyludd, is it the actual hammock that needs fixing or just the frame ?( I may have missed that detail reading this on my mobile). If you are good at knots, or can learn how to do them it shouldn't be too difficult.
Mangles remind me of when I was a student and the convent I first had digs in had one(mothers organising of digs, plus we aren't catholic??)....i was in shock as had only seen them in my granny's garage or on tv, I have to say though there was something quite relaxing about using one. And they are pretty efficient at the job too.
Tomorrow......the onslaught of sorting and tidying begins again.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -

Well done for throwing them away lobbyludd!
Good luck for your lounge clearing nanamia, it's good to have a deadline! I agree, very like minded, for some reason I liked the idea of the mangle too! Why? No idea.
Back to school for me today so my dehoarding will slow down for a while, but I feel I have a better mindset to start the new school year with. Thanks all0 -
Room for 1 more?
I am in need of so much help... I've been in denial for so long. I didn't want to admit that my mental health had got this bad as I'm pregnant and scared of being judged by professionals... but I'm now at the point where the house is an absolute state, I'm not able to work, my compulsive behaviours are getting worse and I'm in more debt than ever
I know what I need to do to get things sorted, but I'm just so overwhelmed by things that I end up doing nothing and feeling worse about myself. My friends and family have no idea how bad things have gotten financially and housework-wise (I'm good at hiding) but even so I keep getting the odd 'jokey' comment about 'losing the baby in all the mess', etc which really upset me.
I need some help, but all my family have their own issues at the moment and I'm too embarassed to admit how much I'm struggling. It should be so easy, I'm at home full time at the moment, but I actually did more when I was working... just being in this mess all the time is making my mood worse and making it more difficult to be motivated
Anyway, enough whinging... I'm off to make dinner. Tomorrow is a new day and I intend to do *something* I can at least be proud of. Hope everyone else is doing well and sorry for such a self-indulgent post.PAD: £4843.10 (loan paid, yay!)
