Calico.. I have a bottle of bleach in the bathroom and one in the loo and a bottle of flash spray with my microfibre cloths.. that is the extent of my cleaning kit
I don't think all these fancy dancy products are all that.. the simplest, cheapest stuff is perfectly adequate.
Duvet sets.. I have 2 which I use in rotation.. dirty off ,clean on.. once every week or 2.. any more got rehomed.. PDSA, hostels, CS etc are always willing to take them.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

All those knick-knacks need placing in the CS box.. or in the bin.. or anywhere.. I'd go do it!! It is gathering dust and filth.. nasty tat! *FLING!!*
Accidents waiting to happen.. Ooops.. did I knock that over? .. and that??.. and that??

I know some people have had problems with non-collection, rude people etc, but my experiences both as a giver and a taker have been positive, and people do still take VCRs in my local group. Everybody's different, but for me, finding people who actually want my junk helps me maintain a much more positive attitude than putting something in the bin.

My friend has a house like that, all the little tables etc, but not that amount of stuff, it's a fantastic house, do you really want all that dusting? You would be dusting for ever, it would never end!
Yes I am on freecycle, to be honest I didn't check whether it works still or not. Plus, when you are a hoarder trying to get rid, there are times when things have to go....there and then...no messing, or they would stay there for another year. I'm speaking for myself here though as lots seem to be able to keep things then throw away. Also freecycle is great and I have used it in the past and very much advocate that whole idea, but you can get messed about massively , or the person doesn't turn up/re-arrange...so at times, stuff just has to go for a hoarder as it isn't that simple.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -

My upstairs kit has bleach for loo, glass stuff and vinegar for shower door, polish and lavender oil for surfaces and a couple of cloths. The stuff I seem to have over bought is flipping laminate floor cleaner as not used to it and keep seeing another one that looks better, but no worries, have enough for the next year now....?!?
You are brilliant pigpen, dead funny, you are like the 'hoarder police'...which let's face it we need without a doubt.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -

Consider yourself patted GreyQueen, but, honestly, I've never understood the jam jar thing as a 'thing' before I started posting here.
I didn't know there could be jam jar connisseurs.......:huh:You'd be surprised, I know a fair few.
Plain, straightsided jam-jars with plain lids can exit no probs. The difficulty is when the jar has added value in design; square or curvy or pressed design or a pretty printed lid. I got hooked on Roses lime marmalade jars as a kid.
A coupla years back I decided that my Bonne Maman habit was out of control and taking up far too much space in my tiny home. So I posted a small box of them on Freecycle.
OMG, you'd've thought I was offering to give away gold doubloons, so many people wanted them it was insane!Feeling a touch pleased with myself. Decided to go offline at a civilised hour and melted some more candlewax (this is a decluttering project because the supplies for it are taking space in both sitting room and kitchen atm).
Then I dealt with a niggling problem in the lining of my handbag which had been getting on my nerves whenever I delved for my purse. There was an unused pocket in the lining with a zip which had failed. I didn't need to use the pocket but because it gawped open, it was forever catching some of the stuff meant to be in the main part of the bag, causing me to be one of those irritatating fumblers at the checkout.
Soo, I turned the bag inside out, unpicked and binned the zip, and filled in the place it had taken up with a strip of wide ribbon from the ribbon stash. I also put a few stitches in the bag-strap whilst I had the needle out.
Well-chuffed. Had no probs binning defunct small zipper and cutoffs of the thread but did have a swither with the pocket-liner for the pocket I'd sealed up. Look, went my mental soundtrack, It's the same stuff as the rest of the lining. If the lining needs a repair and you've kept this, you'll have an exact match.
I managed to discard it, telling myself that this bag is being worn to death and will be binned when I'm finished with it. That should I have a desperate need of a bit of polyester lining fabric, I have some black stuff in the fabric box, which would be perfectly fine inside the brown bag. Frankly, if you're rummaging in my handbag your are either me or a tea-leaf, and I don't care what either of us think about a mis-matched lining.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Calicocat - some charity shops still take video recorders if they're working, I know of at least 2 in my town who sell them. Apparently people still buy them! I actually still have my working one, as I have videos that I don't have the DVD version of yet."Why, this is hell, nor am I out of it."0

:j My filing cabinet has arrived ............... with extras - a load of suspension files (thet's one thing I don't have to buy) and the plastic price display doobry from the shop. :rotfl:
I'll bring that back when/if I go out today.
I've got a mountain of stuff to declutter from the dining table before I make a start on reducing the amount of paper and dealing with the desk.
It needs to be sawn - I've taken it apart already, but the bits are too big to fit in the bins.
I know what you mean about night shifts calicocat - it's very easy to get second wind, just as you're leaving work. You're buzzing with energy, the day's ahead of you and you just don't know what to do with yourself.
GreyQueen - Nope, still not getting the jam jar 'thing', but they're clearly popular and I know what you mean about the little jobs.
They don't help you declutter much, no one knows you've done it but you but it's tremendously satisfying the first time you use something after you've fixed it and it doesn't give you the grief it used to. It's very, very nice. Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -
Thanks for those kind words calicocat.
I can see the light at the end of the tunnel debt wise and they are the best thing to de-clutter.
I was making the little ones bed this morning, it took about 10 seconds and then the room was tidy.l:j I need to vacuum and polish but that's a two minute job. At some point all the rooms will be like this. My kitchen is ok, albeit a hideous 1960's melamine carbuncle with metal edges. It clean an tidy but very, very ugly. Also the bottom of the walls are plastered and the tops still artex. I had the damp proof done 10 years ago and it still needs doing. It one of the first things to save for once debt free.
I'm currently redecorating the bathroom. I need a new sink as mine is cracked but again I need to save. The toilet needs to be boxed in too so the pipes are all hidden. Hopefully I can scrape some cash together next month to do this. I need some blinds and possibly Lino too. When done this room will also be sorted. There is a bit of light at the end of the tunnel, I just need to keep at it.
Sorry for being a misery guts yesterday.

Mr F has just set off for town with the bedroom curtains - recycling. He also has a bag of stuff for the charity shop.
Youngest Son came last night - took away a black sack full plus a puzzle that was waiting in the hall for him.
