Please don't let this thread develop into an Independence debate, surely that wasn't the OP's point.0

I quickly learnt in the army that there are 2 people you want fighting with you: the Gurkhas and the Scots!Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

Pity they don't want to be part of the UK anymore ! lol
Wait for the result of the vote to see what the majority want.
Not every Scot agrees with that !!!! Salmond.0 -

I personally dislike Alex Fish as both times I've been (un)lucky enough to meet him he has offended me lol. He had no chance of being liked after grabbing my postcard out of my hands and autographing it while I was on a school trip to Westminster way back in 1996... 'To Alanna all the best Alex Salmond' GRRRRR!!!0

I have to say, personal dislikes aside, Mr S has a commanding presence that runs rings round his opponents - indeed, Scottish Questions is required viewing as one of the best entertainment programmes on the BBC Parliament Channel. I have no doubt of his sincerity, but nobod has mentioned the devious horse-trading that took place in 1706 as England manipulated the events that led to the the initial union.
Given that government's have been apologising for everything from slavery to Empire-bagging and trying to make amends, I remain surprised that the Union skulduggery is forgotten in favour of keeping the union. Well, that worked for 300 years of a fashion, but why not try the alternative? Hollyrood after a shaky start has come to be respected and much legislation is led by Scotand before Westminster playing catch up. I very much doubt whether we could be in any greater mess - and the great idea of the Bedroom Tax fom Westminster will do much to engender support - as well as other issues too boring to mention.
Irrespective of the result, at least we have been given the opportunity to choose, and entrusting those of 16 to take an interest and join the debate. They may not be perfect, but they did away with Bridge Tolls, and provided free prescriptions which helped many along with assisted care for the elderly and free university places. Little wonder so many from England migrate Scotand.
In any case, I support independence for England too - the benefits of us all looking after our own interests benefits everyone.0 -
You're right the independence movement should campaign on the 1706 issue. It's pivotal in deciding whether they should go their own way! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Anyways, I also love Scotland and spent many happy times there! Soon as I can I think I will move there. But I love Yorkshire too.
We used to call it 'a roll on chips' when I was wee growing up in Lanarkshire, here in Orkney we call it a 'chip butty' or 'chips in a roll'.Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

I'm half Scottish and I think they're great.
I love Irn Bru and Tunnock's Caramel bars.
I'd happily move to Glasgow once I'm qualified.
My Scottish family think Alex Salmond is ridiculous and won't be voting for independence.
We were always great as a United Kingdom.
