Credit Card Fraud involving Blizzard Entertainment

One possible method to collect all the necessary info is when a person taking your payment asks for your ID (which contain your address) and swipes your credit card for you.
I have been a victim of fraud against a mastercard. Here in Europe all that is needed is the card number, the expiry date, and the last three digits of the number on the signature space on the reverse and at busy times I believe the on-line system will authorise the transaction automatically for minimal sums, like 10 dollars. In my case, the details were passed on to the fraudster by a clerk in a shop; however a spokesman for the 4 credit card global systems said on the BBC, that their biggest problem is currently fraudsters hacking merchant's databases.
I think the message is : use different cards for different types of purchase.

Two pending transactions from BLIZZARD-ENT*ELECUPGRD, both for $19.99, appeared on my Visa debit card from Chase this morning. I immediately canceled the card but will need to wait for the transaction to fully process before making a claim.
I have no reason to believe there was a security compromise on my part and the "credit master attack" refereed to earlier seems to be the likely cause.0 -
Other than the stuff for Blizzard the only other connection I can see is is Jasco and Citibank.
Ebay sent me a letter insuring me their site is safe but as of now i'm not sure.
BTW I use Windows XP0 -
Hi lylbyrd458,
A quick search by google.co.uk using "Velizy" & "France" produces a top ten hit of
http://www.blizzard.fr/
What a coincidence.
So you have an American bank. An American credit card. Details stolen from Heaven knows where, Sold to the Lord knows whom in some unknown fraud centre (Africa, Former Soviet Union, S E Asia or perhaps nearer home), possibly multiplied up many many times by "farming" gold in the world's 28th largest economy (The on-line fantasy world) that is then sold for real Dollars, Yen, etc. etc.). Where was the crime? Who has been defrauded? What have they lost? In Money? In Time? Who are the "winners" ? Where are the "winners" ?

WarCraft may still be the favourite fantasy but there are lots more:

Who do the FBI go for in this money spinning fraud ?
[There has been a huge fuss about 3 executives of a London bank, who bought and sold a chunk of Enron, a bit too close to it being shown to be a can of worms...................... will we ever know the truth ? (Putting NatWest Bank Enron Executives into google.co.uk will produce more of the story).
I cannot see the French being as co-operative, when someone gets off the plane in Paris, wanting to question Blizzard over what looks like a 10 dollar fraud ?]
Sorry, I don't have any answers. The new pop up "choose your own strong password" technique being rolled out to the major merchants by the credit card systems may protect big business but it won't give us back the time and chaos introduced into our lives by being flagged as unreliable users of plastic cards.

My wife just bought scrubs from Jasco about 4 days ago and since then I've had 2 warcraft debits and 1 blizzard ...
I've called my bank and cancelled her debit card but what should I do now?0 -
Hi Everyone,
On June 27th my bank called me about strange charges. So I came home and checked my account online and found 7 charges from WoW/Blizzard. I did a Google search and found this forum. It has been helpful, but I am still confused as to how this happened.
These are the charges:
06/27/2007 7994 WORLD OF WARCRAFT CDKE $26.94
06/27/2007 5734 BLIZZARD-ENT*ELECUPGRD $21.39
06/27/2007 5999 BC ELEC UPGRADE $47.16
06/27/2007 7994 WORLD OF WARCRAFT CDKE $26.94
06/27/2007 5734 BLIZZARD-ENT*ELECUPGRD $19.99
06/27/2007 5734 APL*APPLE ONLINE STORE $1.00
06/27/2007 5734 BLIZZARD-ENT*ELECUPGRD $19.99
This was my Visa Debit Check Card number that was used, and this account is linked to my checking. The bank is Wachovia.
I never bought from Jasco, as some people mentioned. The last place I ordered from, in May, was VistaPrint.com.
My account was closed, but this is really annoying!
What the heck is going on???0 -
I just downloaded my account information online and found 3 transactions from BLIZZARD-ENT*ELECUPGRD VDB
06/25/07 joint checking BLIZZARD-ENT*ELECUPGRD VDB8$-19.99
06/25/07 joint checking BLIZZARD-ENT*ELECUPGRD VDB8$-19.99
06/25/07 joint checking BLIZZARD-ENT*ELECUPGRD VDB8$-21.75
I googled Blizzard ENT and it brought me to this site! I'm glad it did. i knew i
hadn't made any purchases in the time frame of these transactions... because it would have had to have been on the weekend and i didn't use my debit card all weekend... now i have to contact my bank first thing monday morning... it's gonna overdraft me... ugh
unlike the previous poster my stupid f'in bank didln't call me...0 -
Blizzard Entertainment charges showed up on my VISA debit card today as well. I had no idea who these people were until I found this thread. Three charges were on my account today:
2 For 39.99 and 1 for 43.45... Over $121!!
This was stolen from my account, which is a visa checkcard with Wachovia Bank. Even though they show "pending", the money can still be deducted. As a single mom, on a tight budget, this really pi$$es me off! I have checks for bills coming in, and if the $121 is not there, they can charge me for bounced checks!0 -
A warm welcome to all newbies from across the globe, I am very glad I started this thread.
My run of bad luck continues. Apart from the 5 Fraudulent transactions on my Halifax UK issued Amazon CC, last week I had yet another fraudulent transaction, this time on my paypal account. And guess what, it was a gaming company.

When will this crimes ever stop? Speaking of crime, some drunk (we had been clubbing in the town centre) stole 2 wiper arms from my car last week (bad luck coincidence or what?). At least they left the driver side wipers intact. It cost me £125 to replace them.0 -
Hi everyone. So I too have been a victim of these random WoW and NC Soft charges.
The Interesting thing about my story is that the charges were done on two cards. I found the WoW charges on my Washington Mutual debit card and very quickly moved to block the card and get a new one. So I then had to change two online subsciptions (Sony Online Entertainment and Fileplanet.com) over to my American First Credit Union credit card and about a week later I had two charges for NC Soft on that card. American First and I actually called up NC Soft and got the charges taken care of on their end very quickly.
Those two companies, Sony and Fileplanet, are the only ones that would have both card numbers, so I was wondering if anyone else here has done business with any of those two companies; I'm thinking that maybe those sites are getting hacked. The possiblity of maybe a key logger on my computer or these guys just using a random number generator to make these charges exist as well.0
