    - all automated now, all internet, they check your DLAHRM status on the net
    - so after the first application is made it subsequently it checks your test & insurance and DLA on the net and sends a disk to your home
    - you can still do it the hard [non internet] way if you choose

Incorrect.....the person will still need to apply for their road tax in the normal way (either online, by telephone, or at the DVLA/Post Office). The tax disc is not automatically sent. The only time a tax disc is automatically sent is if a person has a vehicle under the Mobility Scheme.

And, sorry to be a pain, but when you ring DLA you need to be asking for a new 'VED' and not an award number. They will simply send a new one....and they won't cancel the old one.....your serial number on the VED these days is the same one year in year out. DLA are not there to Police the VEDs....they simply act as agents for DVLA in sending them out to those who are entitled.

No it's only one free tax disc.

can you please enlighten me and point to me in the terms and conditions on the .gov site where it says only for 1 car only?

It's always been one car - never been more than one. However soon when PIP starts it may only 50% of a car - if they change the mobility to LRM, but at least for some it will be fairer as they got nothing under DLA LRM.

Not on the .gov site found this http://www.dialdoncaster.co.uk/information/fact-sheets/2299-road-tax-exemption

Please do try and tax another car, let us know how you get on.

It's just the way it is.......the disabled person is entitled to "a" free tax disc. Check out section 7....general information....of leaflet V188 which is available via the DVLA website.

    7. General Information
    • Exemption from vehicle tax for disabled people can only be claimed for one vehicle at a time. You must tax any other vehicle in an appropriate tax class.

Because tax discs are issued against 1 car, not rocket science.

You can't buy 1 tax disc and use it on all the cars you own can you, so why would it be different for a disabled class vehicle.

Well said! I think the OP thinks he can use the VED certificate to get as many free tax discs as he wants. Talk about having your cake and eating it!! You'd think he'd be grateful for the one free tax disc wouldn't you?

To the group, I did this in Feb 2011 / Feb 2012 / and Feb this year in the way I said in an earlier #.

    - my post describes the way its done and the very way I did it for the 3rd time just weeks ago

    - you decide who you believe ...............

Just ring the Disability Benefits Unit on 0845 712 3456 number regardless of an old DLA404 and get a nice new up to date registration - it takes only minutes, they are very helpful, then tax your car etc online from your armchair the way I describe.

What I have described is actual experience not a copy & paste mechanics opinion of they think it should work, but how it really works.

As stated earlier the new 'Certificate of Entitlement to DLA' came into being in late 2011, just get a new 're-useable certificate' from the phone number I gave you.

Well if we're going down the "choose who you believe" route then I should point out that I actually work for DLA.

It is correct that you can tax the chair from your armchair......via the internet or by phone. Your earlier post leads people to believe that they can use the VED once to obtain the tax disc and then DVLA will automatically send them a new tax disc every twelve months. THIS IS NOT CORRECT! Whether you are paying for a tax disc, or getting one free, you will still receive the standard DVLA notification that your tax is due to expire....and you will still need to apply in the normal way.
